Campgrounds and RV parks near Washingtonville, NY

Hiking dominates the area. Harriman State Park carries sections of the Appalachian Trail and connects to Bear Mountain State Park, with lake swimming at Lake Welch adjacent to Beaver Pond Campground. Fahnestock State Park offers loop trails around Pelton Pond and Canopus Lake, plus fishing and paddling on stocked waters. Hudson Valley attractions are close: West Point and its museum, Storm King Art Center, and the wineries and cideries around Washingtonville itself. Families staying at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Lazy River get on-site pools and character events, while the New York City North / Newburgh KOA Holiday runs kid-focused weekend programming. Rail access at Beacon and Salisbury Mills makes a car-free day trip into Manhattan practical from most nearby campgrounds.

State-park campgrounds in this region run a limited season. Beaver Pond at Harriman typically opens for walk-in only in mid-April and moves to reservation-based camping from early May through mid-October. Pelton Pond at Fahnestock follows a similar mid-spring to mid-fall pattern, with sites generally available from May into October. Neither offers winter camping and neither has electric hookups. Private parks including Black Bear Campground, the New York City North / Newburgh KOA Holiday, and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Lazy River generally operate from spring through late fall, with some sites available into early winter. Summer weekends fill fastest, driven by demand from New York City. Foliage weekends from late September through mid-October are the second peak and often book out earlier than travelers expect. Late spring and early September usually deliver the mildest weather with the smallest crowds. Winter brings snow, ice, and closed state campgrounds, so cold-weather RV trips are limited to a few private parks.

Beaver Pond Campground has flush toilets, showers, laundry, and a dump station, but no electric, water, or sewer hookups at the site. Select sites fit trailers and motorhomes up to 30 feet. Pets and alcohol are not permitted at Beaver Pond. Pelton Pond at Fahnestock is similarly rustic, with basic comfort stations and no hookups, though it accepts larger rigs. Private parks fill the hookup gap. The New York City North / Newburgh KOA Holiday, Black Bear Campground, and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Lazy River offer full or partial hookups, Wi-Fi, camp stores, and family amenities such as pools and playgrounds. Black bears live in Harriman and Fahnestock, so food storage discipline is required. Deer ticks are active spring through fall; insect repellent and post-hike tick checks are standard practice.
