Camping near Worcester, New York
Worcester sits in Otsego County in central New York, on the northern edge of the Catskill foothills and about a half-hour drive from Cooperstown. The area is rural and hilly, with small lakes, working farms, and easy access from Interstate 88, making it a practical base for RV travelers heading to Cooperstown, Oneonta, or the northern Catskills.
Most campgrounds in this stretch of the Susquehanna River valley are privately run parks with full hookups, plus one nearby state park on Otsego Lake. Crazy Acres Campground at Beaver Spring Lake sits in Davenport and offers a full-service RV park with a spring-fed lake, and Hartwick Highlands Campground, LLC and Little Lake Campground round out the private options within easy reach.
For a state-run option, Glimmerglass State Park lies about eight miles outside Cooperstown on Otsego Lake and offers electric campsites plus a primitive loop near Beaver Pond. Cooperstown Shadow Brook Campground provides another private choice closer to the village and the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Things to do near Worcester
Cooperstown is the anchor attraction. The National Baseball Hall of Fame, the Fenimore Art Museum, and the Farmers' Museum are all within the village, and Otsego Lake supports swimming, fishing, and paddling. Ommegang Brewery and the Glimmerglass Festival opera season add summer draws.
At Glimmerglass State Park, visitors can tour the Hyde Hall Mansion and Covered Bridge, walk the self-guided Beaver Pond Nature Trail, and swim at the lake beach when lifeguards are on duty. Car-top canoes and kayaks can be launched from an ADA-accessible launch near the main campground.
Closer to camp, Crazy Acres Campground at Beaver Spring Lake offers a swimming pool and on-site fishing. Hiking in the Catskill foothills and drives along Route 28 fill out most itineraries.

The main camping season around Worcester runs from mid-May through mid-October. Glimmerglass State Park typically opens in mid-May and closes in mid-October, and most private parks in the area follow a similar mid-spring to late-October window. Crazy Acres Campground at Beaver Spring Lake generally operates from May through the end of October.
Summer is peak season. July and August bring the warmest temperatures, the busiest Cooperstown crowds, and the highest demand for sites, especially during Hall of Fame Induction Weekend in late July when regional bookings tighten sharply. June and early September are quieter and still comfortable for outdoor plans.
Spring and late fall are cool and wet, and shoulder-season campers should expect cold nights and the possibility of frost. Winters are cold and snowy, with average snowfall around 83 inches per year in the Cooperstown area. Most private campgrounds close for the winter, though Glimmerglass State Park stays open for day use with cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice fishing, and winter hiking.
How to book Worcester campgrounds
Glimmerglass State Park reservations go through the New York State Parks system at ReserveAmerica or by phone at 1-800-456-2267. Sites can be booked up to nine months in advance, and same-day reservations are accepted until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival. Walk-ins are permitted only for campsites, not cabins.
Private parks handle bookings directly. Crazy Acres Campground at Beaver Spring Lake, Cooperstown Shadow Brook Campground, Little Lake Campground, and Hartwick Highlands Campground, LLC each take reservations through their own websites or by phone.
For any stay overlapping Hall of Fame Induction Weekend in late July, book several months ahead. Summer weekends generally fill early, so lock in dates as soon as itineraries are set.
What to expect on arrival
Roads into the region are two-lane and hilly. Large rigs should follow campground-provided directions rather than GPS, since some approaches include steep grades and narrow shoulders that are unfriendly to long trailers and motorhomes.
Hookup availability varies. Private parks such as Crazy Acres Campground at Beaver Spring Lake typically offer 30- and 50-amp service with water and sewer and pull-through sites for big rigs. Glimmerglass State Park has 30-amp electric sites in its main loop, while sites near Beaver Pond are more primitive with a shorter length limit.
All sites at Glimmerglass include a picnic table, grill, and fire ring, and warm showers are on site. Firewood must be sourced locally to limit invasive pests, and New York State Parks limit two pets per site on a six-foot leash.

parks.ny.gov/parks/glimmerglassWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip in Worcester, NY?

Winters are real here, dipping into the teens with serious snow, so most hosts list seasonally from April through late October. Local insider tip: target the last weekend of September for peak color along Route 7 between Worcester and Cobleskill, before the leaf-peeper crowds spike rates.
weather.gov/bgm/I've never driven an RV. Will I be okay starting from Worcester?
You'll do great, and Worcester is honestly one of the friendliest places in New York to start. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering the generator, slide-outs, water, propane, and dump procedures, and you can call or text them anytime during the trip. The roads around Worcester are wide, lightly trafficked rural routes (NY-7 and I-88) with gentle grades, which is a dream for a first time renting an RV compared to navigating a busy metro. If you're still nervous, choose a smaller Class C motorhome or a campervan rental in Worcester instead of a 35-foot Class A, and ask your host for delivery. You'll be a pro by the time you reach Cooperstown.
dmv.ny.gov/driver-licenseWhat if the RV breaks down during my trip?

Save the RVezy support number in your phone before you leave, and you will have backup whether you are in downtown Worcester or deep in the Catskills.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Worcester RV rental across state lines or into Canada?

Popular RV road trips from Worcester include Vermont's Green Mountains (about 3 hours east), the New Hampshire White Mountains (5 hours northeast), Niagara Falls (4.5 hours west), and the Pennsylvania Poconos (3 hours south). Cross-border travel into Canada (think Niagara-on-the-Lake or Montreal, both around 5 to 6 hours away) is sometimes allowed but depends on the host's insurance, so message them before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because protection coverage doesn't extend there. Insider tip: a Worcester-to-Vermont loop via Route 7 is gorgeous in fall and easy on fuel.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much should I budget for fuel on an RV trip from Worcester?

Gas prices in Otsego County typically track near the New York State average, with stations in Worcester (Stewart's Shops), Schenevus, and Cobleskill offering reliable fill-ups. Expect 8 to 10 miles per gallon on a Class A, 10 to 14 MPG on a Class C motorhome rental in Worcester, and 15 to 20 MPG on a campervan. For a 4-day, 400-mile loop through Cooperstown, Howe Caverns, and Albany in a Class C, plan to budget based on current pump prices using the EIA weekly gasoline update. Pro tip: top off in Cobleskill before heading into the Catskills, where prices can climb.

Earlier is better, but you have options. New York State parks like Glimmerglass and Max V. Shaul accept reservations up to 9 months in advance through ReserveAmerica, and summer weekends (especially around July 4th and Cooperstown's Hall of Fame Induction Weekend in late July) fill up the first day they become available. Private campgrounds like Cooperstown Beaver Valley and Belvedere Lake Resort typically take bookings 6 to 12 months out and sell out for peak baseball tournament weeks. For a spontaneous fall foliage Worcester RV trip in late September, you can often grab a midweek site 2 to 4 weeks ahead. Insider tip: book your RVezy rental first so you know your rig's exact length before reserving a site.

You pay your rental total (nightly rate, fees, chosen protection plan) at booking using a credit or debit card.
