Campgrounds and RV parks near Wurtsboro, NY

The Bashakill Wildlife Management Area is the signature outdoor destination. This 3,107-acre WMA contains the largest freshwater wetland in southeastern New York, and is a state designated Bird Conservation Area, drawing birders during the spring warbler migration and spring and fall waterfowl migrations. Hiking, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, and birdwatching are all supported on site, and the WMA includes parking areas, boat launches, and an observation deck along the marsh. The Basha Kill Rail Trail follows an old railroad bed along the wetland and connects into the Long Path and Shawangunk Ridge Trail for longer routes. Private resorts near Wurtsboro typically add pools, playgrounds, and sports courts on site for downtime between excursions. Day trips reach Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, Resorts World Catskills, and the Shawangunk Ridge trail network. Fishing, tubing, and paddling on the Neversink and Delaware rivers are also within reasonable driving range.

Camping season near Wurtsboro tracks the standard Catskill pattern. Most private RV resorts open around mid-spring and close by late October, with peak demand from late June through Labor Day. The busiest month for tourism in Wurtsboro is July, followed by May and December. Reserve well ahead for July and August weekends, and for any date that overlaps a Bethel Woods concert. Spring brings mud, black flies, and heavy migratory bird activity at the Bashakill. Late May into June is a sweet spot for warblers and wildflowers before summer humidity settles in. The warmest time of year is generally mid July, when highs are regularly around 87 degrees Fahrenheit with overnight temperatures rarely dropping below the low 60s, and midsummer is also the wettest stretch. Fall foliage typically peaks from early to mid-October across Sullivan County, and cooler nights make campfires comfortable. Snow is common from December through February, with occasional flurries in late fall and early spring. Winter RV camping options are limited to a handful of seasonal-lease sites.

Expect a mix of wooded and open sites with mature hardwood cover. Sites at Catskill RV Resort sit beneath maple and oak trees and offer 30- and 50-amp hookups. Common on-site amenities in the area include a heated pool, playground, and basketball, volleyball, and pickleball courts. Cabins are widely available for travelers not bringing an RV. Cell service is generally reliable along the Route 17 and 209 corridors but can be spotty on back roads and inside the Bashakill. Bring bug spray from May through August; mosquitoes and black flies are active near the wetlands. Terrain around Wurtsboro is rolling rather than steep, and rig access to the private resorts is straightforward from Route 17. Check overhead clearances on smaller state routes and plan grocery stops in Middletown, Monticello, or Ellenville before pulling into camp.
