Campgrounds and RV parks near Wynantskill, NY

Wynantskill sits just southeast of Troy in Rensselaer County, putting RV travelers within a short drive of both the Capital Region and the Taconic foothills. The area works well as a base for exploring Albany, Troy, the Berkshires across the Massachusetts line, and Bennington, Vermont, without long transit days between stops. Campground options within roughly a 30-minute drive skew toward private, family-run parks with full or partial hookups, plus one state-park campground in the Taconic Valley. Further east into the Taconics, Broken Wheel Campground offers family camping in the Taconic Mountains, close to Albany, Schenectady and Troy. Cherry Plain State Park provides a quieter alternative in the Taconic Valley of Rensselaer County, with 30 total sites split between trailer sites, lakeside tent sites, and hike-in tent sites.

State and private sites use separate systems. For New York State Park campgrounds, same-day reservations are allowed until 3 p.m. on the day of arrival, and reservations can be made online through ReserveAmerica or by calling 1-800-456-2267. Camping reservations at Cherry Plain State Park can be made up to 9 months in advance. Private campgrounds handle reservations directly. Alps Family Campground Inc, Adventure Bound Deer Run, and Broken Wheel Campground each take bookings by phone or through their own websites, with Deer Run also listed on Campspot. For peak summer weekends, contact private parks two to three months out, and lock in state-park sites as soon as the 9-month booking window opens. Pet owners at New York State Parks may be asked to show proof of rabies vaccination on request, with a maximum of two pets per site and a leash no longer than 6 feet.
