Campgrounds near Yonkers, New York
Yonkers sits on the lower Hudson River in Westchester County, about 15 miles north of midtown Manhattan. The city itself has no campgrounds, but it works well as a base for reaching campgrounds across the New York and New Jersey metro region. Options range from a full-hookup urban RV park across the Hudson to state park campgrounds an hour north in the Hudson Highlands.
The closest full-service RV facility is Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City, roughly 20 miles south. For a more traditional camping trip, drivers head north on the Palisades Parkway to Harriman State Park or continue up the Taconic State Parkway into Putnam County. Gateway National Recreation Area in Brooklyn adds a rare within-city-limits camping option to the south.
Expect a mix of urban, coastal, and forested settings within a 90-minute drive. Rockland, Passaic, and Putnam counties supply the closest natural campgrounds, while the New York City boroughs supply the paved, hookup-equipped sites.
Things to do near Yonkers
The Hudson River corridor is the main draw. Campers based at Beaver Pond Campground can walk to Lake Welch beach and step onto Harriman's trail network, which connects into sections of the Appalachian Trail. Pelton Pond sits inside Clarence Fahnestock State Park, where the Appalachian Trail crosses the park and Canopus Lake offers swimming, boat rentals, and fishing.
Closer to the city, Floyd Bennett Field puts campers next to Jamaica Bay, historic aircraft hangars, and bike routes toward Jacob Riis Park. Liberty Harbor RV Park provides direct PATH and ferry access to Manhattan, making it a practical base for Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and Liberty State Park visits. Camp Wyanokie borders Norvin Green State Forest and centers on a small lake for hiking, fishing, and birdwatching.

Camping season in the Hudson Valley runs roughly from mid-April through late October. Beaver Pond Campground at Harriman opens in mid-April for a short walk-in period before its full reservation season runs from early May through mid-October. Pelton Pond at Clarence Fahnestock has historically operated from mid-May into early November, though the campground is closed for the 2026 season for bathhouse construction, so plan around that if targeting Fahnestock.
Summer, roughly late June through August, is the peak booking window. Weekends at Harriman fill quickly because of the park's proximity to New York City, and reservations should be secured as far ahead as possible. Fall brings cooler nights and strong foliage color across Putnam and Rockland counties through October.
Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City operates year-round, while Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn typically runs a seasonal window from mid-May through mid-October. Winter camping at natural sites is limited or unavailable, and snow and ice on park roads should be expected from December through February.

Here’s the updated version with the host included: RV Trip Review We just got back from our trip and had a great experience with this RV. The vehicle was clean, comfortable, and ran really well throughout the entire trip. It had plenty of space for the family and made traveling together easy and enjoyable. Everything worked as expected, and we felt comfortable and confident on the road. The host was also incredibly supportive, friendly, and easy to communicate with. They made the whole rental experience smooth and stress-free. It was a great RV for a family trip(5 people), and we would definitely rent from this host again!

How to book campgrounds near Yonkers
New York State Parks campgrounds, including Beaver Pond at Harriman and Pelton Pond at Clarence Fahnestock, are reserved through ReserveAmerica. Sites open on a rolling nine-month window, and same-day bookings during peak season cut off at 3 p.m. Walk-ins are permitted on campsites at these state parks, but availability during summer weekends is unreliable.
Floyd Bennett Field in Gateway National Recreation Area is reserved through Recreation.gov, with advance reservations required and a 14-night maximum stay. Liberty Harbor RV Park books directly through the operator by phone or its own website. Camp Wyanokie handles reservations through Campspot and takes tent campers only, so RV travelers need to choose a different site.
For summer weekends and holiday windows across all of these, book as early as the reservation window opens.
What to expect
Site styles vary widely. Beaver Pond offers 125 sites, some on raised platforms, that accommodate up to two tents or trailers and RVs up to 30 feet long. There are no electrical hookups, pets are not permitted, and alcohol is not allowed in the campground. A dump station, showers, and laundry are provided. Pelton Pond at Fahnestock has around 80 tent and RV sites near the pond, with picnic tables, grills, restrooms, showers, and dump station access.
Liberty Harbor is urban and paved, with full hookups, restrooms, showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi. Floyd Bennett Field is a rustic former airfield with tent sites and RV parking, running water, and shower access tied to camp store hours. Camp Wyanokie is fully rustic with tent-only sites, no running water or electricity, and pit latrines rather than flush toilets. Black bears live throughout Harriman and the northern New Jersey Highlands, so food storage discipline is required.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Yonkers, NY
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Yonkers?
RV rental in Yonkers is more affordable than most people expect, especially when you compare it to Manhattan hotel rates. On RVezy, you'll typically find travel trailers starting around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes in the $175 to $275 range, and larger Class A coaches between $250 and $400 nightly. Hosts set their own pricing, mileage, and add-ons, so shoulder-season weeks (late April or late September) often deliver the best value. Pro tip: book Sunday-through-Thursday nights and filter by Instant Book to lock in lower rates fast, then save more by choosing a host who includes generator hours or free local delivery within Westchester County.
visitwestchesterny.com/things-to-do/outdoors/camping/What license do I need to rent an RV in Yonkers, NY?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Yonkers, NY. New York does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for motorhomes or trailers under 26,000 pounds, which covers virtually every rental on RVezy. You'll need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the platform during checkout, so there's no extra paperwork to chase down. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set. Most first-time renters are surprised how quick the approval process is, often under an hour.
dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/get-driver-licenseWhat protection is included when I rent an RV in Yonkers?
Every Yonkers RV trip booked on RVezy comes with a built-in renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can pull out of the driveway with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers most physical damage to the vehicle and offers several coverage tiers you choose during checkout, letting you pick the level that fits your trip and budget. You (the guest) select the protection level, not the host, so the decision stays in your hands. It provides solid financial protection if something unexpected happens on I-87 or up in the Catskills. Pro tip: review the tiers carefully before booking your RV rental in Yonkers, especially if it is your first time renting.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if my plans change? Can I cancel my Yonkers RV rental?
Yes, you can cancel, and RVezy makes it low-risk to book your Yonkers RV trip. RVezy (not the host) sets the cancellation policy, which includes a money-back grace period right after booking, plus refund options depending on how far out your trip is. Because the policy is handled platform-wide, you do not have to dig through individual listings to compare terms. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds you or provides travel credits so your trip plans stay protected. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best rigs for summer Hudson River weekends, knowing you have flexibility if plans shift. RVezy support is reachable before, during, and after your trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Yonkers RV rental?
Absolutely, pets are welcome on tons of trips. To find a pet-friendly RV rental in Yonkers, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see hosts who happily welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Once you arrive, Westchester County is a dream for four-legged co-pilots: Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers has shaded trails along the lake, the Old Croton Aqueduct Trail runs right through town for long leashed walks, and nearby Rockefeller State Park Preserve in Pleasantville offers more than 55 miles of carriage roads. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee or weight limit, and pack a collapsible water bowl since summer humidity in Yonkers regularly tops 80%.
parks.westchestergov.com/tibbetts-brook-parkCan the RV be delivered to me in Yonkers?
Yes, and RV delivery in Yonkers is one of the smartest moves in a dense metro area. Many RVezy hosts will drive the rig straight to your campground, driveway, or a meet-up spot, level it, hook up utilities, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. That means no wrestling a 30-foot motorhome through the Saw Mill River Parkway (which restricts RVs and trailers) on day one. Delivery fees vary by distance, and many hosts include free delivery within a set radius. Pro tip: filter by Delivery on RVezy and message a few hosts to compare quotes for your exact pickup spot in Yonkers.
dot.ny.gov/divisions/operating/oom/transportation-systems/repository/parkways%20commercial%20vehicle%20restrictions.htmlHow far can I drive my RV rental from Yonkers?
Yonkers is one of the best launch pads in the Northeast for an RV road trip. From Yonkers, you're about 45 minutes to Harriman State Park, 90 minutes to the Catskills, 2 hours to the Poconos in Pennsylvania, 3 hours to Lake George in the Adirondacks, and roughly 4.5 hours to Acadia-bound coastal Maine via I-95. Most RVezy hosts set a daily mileage allowance (commonly 100 to 150 free miles per day) with reasonable per-mile rates after that, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer hauls. Pro tip: if you're planning a big multi-state loop, filter for unlimited-mileage listings or message hosts directly to negotiate a flat mileage package before you book.
parks.ny.gov/parks/145Where are the best campgrounds near Yonkers for an RV trip?
You have great options within an hour of the city. The best campgrounds near Yonkers include Beaver Pond Campground in Harriman State Park (about 45 minutes north, fits RVs up to 30 feet, lakeside sites), Croton Point Park (a Westchester County park right on the Hudson with full hookups, just 30 minutes away), Clarence Fahnestock State Park near Carmel (about an hour out, on Canopus Lake), Black Bear Campground in Florida, NY (about 75 minutes, full hookups and a pool), and Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City (closest RV park to NYC with skyline views, around 30 minutes south). Pro tip: New York state park sites book up fast for summer weekends, so reserve early.
parks.ny.gov/camping/When is the best time of year for a Yonkers RV trip?
The sweet spot for RV camping in Yonkers runs from mid-May through mid-October, with two standout windows. Late May to mid-June brings warm 70s, blooming Hudson Valley landscapes, and lighter crowds. Late September through mid-October is peak foliage season, when the leaves along the Hudson and up into the Catskills explode in red and gold, and daytime temps sit in the comfortable 60s. July and August are warm (mid-80s) and humid, perfect for swimming at Croton Point, but campgrounds fill fast. Winter rentals are available too, mostly for snowy getaways to Hunter or Belleayre Mountain. Pro tip: book your fall foliage trip by mid-July, since October weekends sell out months ahead.
weather.gov/okx/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving one out of Yonkers?
You'll be just fine, and you won't be doing it alone. Every RVezy host gives you a full pickup walkthrough covering driving tips, leveling, hookups, slide-outs, and dump procedures before you ever pull away. If you're nervous about navigating Yonkers traffic, here's the inside scoop: avoid the Saw Mill River Parkway, Hutchinson River Parkway, and Bronx River Parkway, which legally restrict RVs, trailers, and tall commercial-style vehicles. Instead, use the New York State Thruway (I-87) and I-95 to escape the metro area. Many first-time renters in Yonkers choose delivery so the host drives the rig out for them. Pro tip: plan your first drive for a Sunday morning when traffic on I-87 is at its lightest.
dot.ny.gov/divisions/operating/oom/transportation-systems/repository/parkways%20commercial%20vehicle%20restrictions.htmlWhat happens if something breaks down during my Yonkers RV trip?
You are covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so if you get a flat near the Mario Cuomo Bridge, the fridge stops cooling in the Catskills, or the generator will not start at Beaver Pond, one phone call gets help dispatched. The roadside team handles towing, tire changes, jump-starts, lockouts, and fuel delivery. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app, since they know their rig best and can often troubleshoot small issues in minutes. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number and your host contact info before leaving Yonkers so you have both ready if anything pops up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my RV rental across state lines or into Canada from Yonkers?
Yes, interstate travel is wide open. Yonkers sits at a crossroads of the Northeast, so popular RV road trips from Yonkers cross easily into New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Vermont, and beyond, all with no extra paperwork. Cross-border travel into Canada (think Montreal, about 6 hours north) is sometimes permitted, but it depends on the individual host and the protection package, so confirm with your host before booking if Canada's on your itinerary. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not allowed on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: bring your passport (or enhanced driver's license) for any Canada plans, and message the host through the listing to lock in approval in writing.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much should I budget for fuel on a Yonkers RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable in your trip budget, but it's easy to estimate. Class B campervans get 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 mpg, Class A coaches around 6 to 10 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10 to 14 mpg combined). Gas prices in Yonkers and Westchester County tend to run 20 to 40 cents above the national average, so plan to fill up across the Hudson in Bergen County, NJ, or up the Thruway near New Paltz where prices drop noticeably. For a 4-day, 400-mile loop in a Class C, budget roughly $180 to $260 in fuel. Pro tip: use GasBuddy along I-87 to find the cheapest stops on your route.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Yonkers?
Earlier is better, but you've still got options if you're a late planner. New York state parks (Harriman, Fahnestock, Bear Mountain) open reservations 9 months ahead through ReserveAmerica, and summer weekends at Beaver Pond often sell out within days of opening. Westchester County parks like Croton Point release sites through the county reservation system, also fillable months in advance. Private parks (Black Bear, Jellystone) typically have more last-minute availability. Pro tip: for a Memorial Day, July 4th, or Labor Day Yonkers RV trip, book your campground the same week you book your RVezy rental, often 4 to 6 months out. Midweek nights and Sunday arrivals open up far more options, even in peak season.
newyorkstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the driving conditions like in and around Yonkers?
Once you know two key things, driving an RV around Yonkers is very manageable. First, the Saw Mill River Parkway, Bronx River Parkway, Hutchinson River Parkway, and Cross County Parkway all ban RVs, trailers, and tall commercial-style vehicles because of low stone-arch bridges. Stick to I-87 (NYS Thruway), I-95, the New England Thruway, and I-287 instead. Second, rush hour on I-87 and I-287 (7 to 9 AM and 4 to 7 PM weekdays) gets thick, so time your departures around it. Winter occasionally brings snow and salt to the Hudson Valley from December through February. Pro tip: plug your route into Google Maps with the RV height and weight settings so it avoids restricted parkways.
dot.ny.gov/divisions/operating/oom/transportation-systems/repository/parkways%20commercial%20vehicle%20restrictions.htmlWhat amenities and hookups should I expect at campgrounds near Yonkers?
You'll find a great mix. Private parks near Yonkers like Croton Point Park and Black Bear Campground offer full hookups (water, 30/50-amp electric, and sewer), Wi-Fi, hot showers, and dump stations. New York state park campgrounds (Beaver Pond at Harriman, Fahnestock) typically provide electric and water at the site but no sewer, with centralized dump stations on the way out, plus flush toilets and showers. For water fills and dump stations in a pinch, the dump at Croton Point Park and the one at Liberty Harbor RV Park (30 minutes south) are reliable backups. Pro tip: ask your RVezy host how full the fresh-water and propane tanks will be at pickup, so you can plan your first fill-up after leaving Yonkers.
parks.ny.gov/camping/What's actually inside the RVs available in Yonkers?
More creature comforts than you'd guess. Most motorhome rentals in Yonkers come fully equipped with a queen or king bed, convertible dinette, full kitchen (fridge/freezer, propane stove, microwave, sink), wet or dry bathroom with shower and toilet, roof-mounted AC, furnace, and a flat-screen TV. Many include a generator for off-grid power, outdoor speakers, and a power awning. Class C motorhomes typically seat 6 to 7 with seatbelts, while travel trailers sleep up to 8 with the dinette and sofa converted. Wi-Fi varies, so some hosts include mobile hotspots as an add-on. Pro tip: filter by Sleeps count and check each listing's amenities tab on RVezy, and message the host to confirm bedding, kitchenware, and outdoor chairs are included.
rvia.org/todays-rvs/typesWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about for a Yonkers RV rental?
Lots of great extras can level up your RV rental in Yonkers. Popular RVezy add-ons include delivery and setup, additional generator hours, bedding and towel packages, outdoor camp kits with chairs and grills, bike racks, and prep or cleaning packages so you do not have to dump tanks at the end. Pickup is usually at the host home in or near Yonkers, with most hosts offering a 30 to 60 minute orientation walkthrough. Mileage policies vary, with 100 to 150 free miles per day being common and unlimited mileage available on some listings. Pro tip: bundle delivery plus a prep package on your first rental, your future self will thank you.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Yonkers%2C%20New%20YorkHow do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
It is straightforward and fully handled through the platform, no cash or paper checks needed. When you book your RV rental in Yonkers, you pay the rental cost, taxes, fees, and chosen protection plan securely through RVezy with a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit is held separately from the booking payment before the trip starts (amount varies by host and rig) and is released after the RV is returned in good condition. Hosts cannot charge extra fees outside the platform. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video with the host at pickup and drop-off, this two-minute habit prevents most deposit disputes and keeps your refund moving fast.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I legally park an RV overnight inside Yonkers city limits?
Here's the honest scoop so you can plan smart: Yonkers city code prohibits parking RVs, trailers, and house-on-wheels vehicles on public streets except for active loading or unloading, so plan to overnight at a campground rather than on residential streets. The good news? You're only 30 minutes from Croton Point Park (full hookups on the Hudson), 45 minutes from Beaver Pond at Harriman State Park, and 30 minutes from Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City for skyline views. If you're staying with friends or family in Yonkers, the RV can park in a private driveway. Pro tip: ask your RVezy host about delivery directly to your campground so you skip the city-parking question entirely.
