Campgrounds near Avis, Pennsylvania
Avis sits in Clinton County along the West Branch Susquehanna River in north-central Pennsylvania, at the edge of the Pennsylvania Wilds region. The area puts RV travelers within a short drive of state forest land, trout streams, and the Pine Creek watershed, with both private campgrounds and state park campgrounds within easy reach.
Close-in private options include Holiday Pines Campground and Pine Village, which cater to RV rigs with hookups and family amenities. Happy Acres Resort offers a larger built-out experience with partial and full hookups, an on-site restaurant, pool, and general store spread across a mountainside setting.
For public land camping, the 2,158-acre Little Pine State Park is surrounded by a mountain section of Tiadaghton State Forest in the Pennsylvania Wilds, with a 45-acre lake, hiking trails, campground, and nesting bald eagles. Farther south, Raymond B Winter State Park covers 695 acres of the Ridge and Valley Province, sits inside Bald Eagle State Forest, and is centered on Halfway Lake, contained by a hand-laid native sandstone dam.
Things to do near Avis
Water and trail activities dominate the area. At Little Pine State Park, campers can fish and paddle the lake, hike creekside trails, and watch for nesting bald eagles. The park sits near Pine Creek, offering easy access to the Pine Creek Rail Trail and the surrounding Pine Creek canyon, a long rails-to-trails route popular with cyclists.
Raymond B Winter State Park adds swimming and boating on Halfway Lake. Electric motors and non-powered boats are allowed, the lake is stocked for warm-water game fish, panfish, and trout, and a sand beach along Halfway Lake is open for swimming during the warm season.
Private resorts fill in the family-focused options. Happy Acres Resort spreads 60 acres of sites on a mountainside with partial and full hookups, an on-site restaurant and lounge, a general store, ice cream parlor, playground, pool, and laundry.

The camping season in this part of Pennsylvania is shaped by state park schedules and mountain weather. The modern campground at Little Pine State Park typically operates from late April through mid-December, while the 61-site campground at Raymond B Winter State Park opens the second Friday in April and closes in mid-December. Private campgrounds in the area generally follow a similar spring-through-fall window, with some open longer.
Summer brings warm, humid days and the busiest bookings, especially on weekends and holidays. Booking well in advance is recommended for summer weekends and fall visits, when the parks are particularly popular. Fall foliage in late September and October is a major draw across the region.
Winter is cold and often snowy, with limited state park camping. Raymond B Winter State Park stays open year round for day use and supports cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and ice fishing when conditions allow, so shoulder-season trips can still work for hardy RV travelers with self-contained rigs.

How to book campgrounds near Avis
Pennsylvania state parks use a centralized reservation system operated through DCNR. Online reservations for day use and overnight facilities can be made through the state parks reservation portal, or by calling the toll-free line 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), from 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday to Saturday. The same system covers both Little Pine State Park and Raymond B Winter State Park.
Modern electric and non-electric campsites can be reserved for the same day up to 11 months in advance, while cottages and organized group sites must be booked at least 3 days ahead of arrival, so peak weekends in summer and fall tend to fill early.
Private campgrounds such as Holiday Pines Campground, Pine Village, and Happy Acres Resort take direct bookings by phone or through their websites. Booking early is recommended for holiday weekends and foliage season.
What to expect on the ground
State park sites in this area are geared to modest RV setups rather than resort-style hookups. Little Pine State Park has more than 100 campsites, with most offering electric-only hookups (no water or sewer at the site), a dump station, restrooms, hot showers, playground, and firewood sales. Most sites can accommodate RVs and trailers, with a stated maximum length around 50 feet.
Alcoholic beverages are prohibited in Pennsylvania state parks, and quiet hours generally run from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. Cell service is unpredictable in and around many state parks in this region, so downloading park maps before arrival is recommended.
Private resorts fill the gap for larger rigs and full hookups. Expect narrower, wooded state park sites and more open, amenity-rich layouts at private options like Happy Acres Resort.

Late spring through mid-fall is the sweet spot for RV camping Avis. May through October brings daytime highs from the mid-60s to mid-80s°F and cool, comfortable evenings, ideal for campfires along the West Branch Susquehanna. Early October is the local secret: Clinton County and the surrounding Pennsylvania Wilds put on one of the best fall foliage shows on the East Coast, and Renovo's Flaming Foliage Festival (mid-October) is worth planning a trip around. Summer is warm and humid, perfect for swimming at Bald Eagle State Park's beach. Winters in Avis are cold (often in the 20s and 30s°F with snow), but adventurous renters can still find four-season motorhome rental Avis listings for ice fishing and snowmobiling getaways.
weather.gov/ctp/I've never driven an RV before, will I be okay starting in Avis?
You'll be in great shape, Avis is actually one of the easier places in Pennsylvania to start your first time renting an RV. The area sits along the wide, four-lane US Route 220 corridor with gentle terrain compared to the steep grades farther west, and traffic is light outside of Williamsport rush hour. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, hookups, the propane system, leveling, and dumping. Many hosts in Clinton County also offer delivery so you can skip the drive entirely. Pro tip: do a slow loop in your host's neighborhood before heading out, and stick to PA 150 and US 220 rather than narrow township roads for your first day.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if I break down during my Avis RV trip?
You are never on your own. Every RV rental in Avis booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you have a flat on US 220, a dead battery at Bald Eagle State Park, or need a tow on PA Route 44 near Little Pine. RVezy customer support is also reachable before, during, and after your trip. Save those numbers in your phone before you roll out.

From Avis you can easily reach the New York Finger Lakes (about 3 hours north), Niagara Falls (around 5 hours), Washington DC (about 4 hours south), or the Outer Banks (about 8 hours southeast). Heading to Canada is possible with some hosts (you'll need a passport and the host's written permission for insurance purposes), so ask before you book. Important: travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Stick to the US and Canada and the road is yours.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much will I spend on fuel during an RV trip from Avis?
Pennsylvania gas isn't the cheapest, but it's manageable with planning. Expect around $3.30 to $3.80 per gallon for regular and a bit more for diesel in Clinton County. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and big Class A rigs around 7 to 10 MPG, travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. A typical Avis-to-Williamsport-to-Bald Eagle loop (under 100 miles) might cost just $30 to $50 in fuel. Pro tip: the Sheetz on PA 150 in Lock Haven and the Sheetz off Exit 192 of I-80 usually beat highway pricing, and they have RV-friendly pumps with plenty of room to maneuver.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Avis?
Book early and you'll have your pick. Pennsylvania State Parks open reservations up to 11 months in advance through the official PA State Parks and Forests Reservations system (888-PA-PARKS), and popular spots like Bald Eagle State Park's Russell P. Letterman Campground and Little Pine State Park book up fast for summer weekends, July 4th, Labor Day, and fall foliage in early October. For a smooth Avis RV trip, lock in your campground first, then book your RVezy rental around those dates. Pro tip: weekdays and shoulder-season weekends (late April, early May, mid-September) often have last-minute openings, even at the most popular Clinton County campgrounds.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/bald-eagle-state-park/r/campgroundDetails.do?contractCode=PA&parkId=880133What are the driving conditions like around Avis?
Driving an RV around Avis is genuinely pleasant. US Route 220 is a four-lane divided freeway running right along the borough's southern edge with easy on/off at Exit 118 (PA 150) and Exit 120 (PA 44), no city traffic to fight. The terrain in the West Branch Susquehanna Valley is rolling rather than steep, so even larger Class A motorhomes handle it well. Watch for occasional deer, especially at dawn and dusk on PA 44 toward Little Pine, and use lower gears on the climb up PA 120 toward Renovo and the Pennsylvania Wilds. Winter brings snow and ice from December through March, so if you're booking off-season, ask your host about snow tires and check PA 511 for road conditions before you roll.
511pa.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Avis?
You'll find solid infrastructure. Most developed campgrounds within an hour of Avis offer paved or gravel pads, picnic tables, fire rings, and 20/30/50-amp electric hookups, Bald Eagle State Park's Russell P. Letterman Campground even has some full-service (water, sewer, electric) sites. Dump stations are available at Bald Eagle, Little Pine, and most private parks, and freshwater fill-up stations are typically near the campground entrance. Pennsylvania prohibits bringing in outside firewood to protect against invasive insects, so plan to buy it locally (most campground stores stock it). Showers, flush toilets, playgrounds, and small camp stores are standard at state park modern campgrounds in this region.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/bald-eagle-state-park/stayWhat's typically included inside an RV rental in Avis?
Most listings come ready to camp. Expect real beds (queen or king in many Class C and Class A motorhomes, plus convertible dinettes and bunks for the kids), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a private bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control via furnace and roof AC, and seatbelted travel seats for everyone in the rig. Many Avis-area hosts also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, and a propane generator for boondocking. WiFi is usually BYO (bring your own hotspot) since cell service can dip in the Pennsylvania Wilds, Verizon tends to perform best in Clinton County. Every listing spells out what's included, so you'll know before you book.
fcc.gov/consumers/guides/mobile-broadband-servicesWhat add-ons and pickup options do hosts in Avis offer?
Lots of flexibility. Common add-ons from Avis-area hosts include camping chairs and tables, a portable propane grill, bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, generators, bike racks, kayak or SUP carriers, and pet packages. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near Avis, Lock Haven, Jersey Shore, or Mill Hall, but many also offer delivery to Bald Eagle State Park, Little Pine State Park, or your driveway anywhere within Clinton or Lycoming County (delivery fees scale with distance). Mileage policies vary by listing, some are unlimited, others include a daily allotment with a per-mile overage. Check each listing's add-ons section and message the host with any custom requests before you book.
exploreclintoncountypa.com/plan/maps/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure, you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card (never cash directly to the host). Your total is broken out clearly: nightly rate, host add-ons, taxes, RVezy service fee, and your chosen protection plan level. A separate refundable security deposit is held before pickup; the exact amount depends on the rig and protection tier you select. As long as you return the RV clean, undamaged, and with the same fuel and propane levels you started with, the deposit is released back to you shortly after dropoff. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos at pickup and dropoff so any questions can be settled quickly.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park an RV in Avis if I'm not at a campground?
You've got options around town. Where to park an RV in Avis depends on the situation: overnight parking in Walmart lots or truck stops is at the manager's discretion, so call ahead (the Walmart in Mill Hall, about 10 miles west, has historically been RV-friendly). Borough streets in Avis itself aren't ideal for overnight stays because of width and local ordinances, so plan to be at a campground, a host's driveway, or a Harvest Hosts/Boondockers Welcome property by nightfall. For day parking while you explore Jersey Shore, Lock Haven's Susquehanna River Walkway, or the Piper Aviation Museum, larger municipal lots near the riverfront usually accommodate Class C and travel trailer rigs. When in doubt, message your host, they know the local quirks.
