Campgrounds near Bloomfield, Pennsylvania
Bloomfield, officially New Bloomfield, is the county seat of Perry County in south-central Pennsylvania and sits within the Harrisburg-Carlisle metropolitan area. The borough is surrounded by farmland, ridges, and creek valleys, with the Susquehanna and Juniata rivers a short drive east. RV travelers use it as a quiet base between Harrisburg and the central Pennsylvania mountains.
The closest developed camping is at Little Buffalo State Park, a wooded 830-acre park centered on Holman Lake with a modern campground, walk-to tent sites, and full-hookup RV sites. Private options in the surrounding countryside include Buttonwood Campground and Paradise Stream Family Campground, while Ferryboat Campsites offers riverfront sites on the Susquehanna at Liverpool.
Farther afield toward Carlisle, Western Village RV Park Inc gives easy interstate access for travelers routing through the region. Together these properties cover state-park amenities, riverfront camping, and full-service RV parks within roughly a 30-minute to one-hour drive of the borough.
Things to do near Bloomfield
Little Buffalo State Park anchors most day trips. Holman Lake offers swimming at a designated beach, boat rentals, and fishing for bass, catfish, and trout. Historic attractions include Shoaff's Mill, a restored grist mill, and the covered bridge, and more than eight miles of trails wind through the surrounding forests, suitable for hiking and mountain biking.
Along the Susquehanna and Juniata rivers, families paddle, tube, and fish from public access points near Liverpool, Newport, and Duncannon. The Appalachian Trail crosses the river at Duncannon, offering short out-and-back hikes for RV travelers.
Harrisburg is roughly 30 to 40 minutes southeast and adds the State Museum, City Island, and river walks. Hersheypark and its rides are within reach as a full day out for parents traveling with kids.

The main camping season in Perry County runs from mid-April through mid to late October. The Little Buffalo State Park campground operates seasonally from the day before trout season, typically mid-April, through the third Sunday in October. Many private campgrounds in the region follow a similar April-to-October pattern, so shoulder-season travelers should confirm dates directly with each property.
Late spring and early summer are the wettest stretch, with thunderstorms common in June and July. Bugs peak in June. July and August are hot and humid but bring the longest days, the warmest lake water, and full programming at the state park.
September and early October are popular weeks for RV travelers, with cool nights, fall color on the ridges, and lighter crowds midweek. Winter camping is limited in the immediate area, and most private campgrounds and the state park campground are closed by early November.

Sandy went above and beyond. Leading up to the rental dates she was in communication, making sure we were on the same page. I opted for delivery rather than pickup, and she made sure the rv was delivered early so we could fully enjoy the rental dates. We had a normal issue w the AC (the unit froze) but she was very communicative and helpful until the problem was solved (she suggested to turn it to fan in case the unit was frozen, and it quickly thawed). Always very sweet and courteous, always responsive. My four year old son loved the trailer, was very upset to understand that we had to give it back 😂. Thanks, Sandy!

How to book campsites near Bloomfield
Little Buffalo State Park is booked through the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests Reservations website or by calling 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), Monday through Saturday. Reservations must be made three days ahead of arrival and can be made up to eleven months in advance, so summer weekends and holiday weeks should be locked in early.
Private parks in the area, including Buttonwood Campground, Ferryboat Campsites, Paradise Stream Family Campground, and Western Village RV Park Inc, each take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day, plus fall foliage weekends in October, fill first.
If a preferred site is sold out, cancellation-alert services can help catch openings. Confirm rig-length limits and hookup type when booking, since site sizes vary widely between state park and private properties.
What to expect on the ground
Roads into the Perry County countryside are narrow and hilly in spots. Drivers of larger Class A and fifth-wheel rigs should map their route ahead of time and favor US 22/322 and US 15 rather than back roads over the ridges.
At Little Buffalo State Park, the modern campground accommodates primitive walk-to sites, standard sites, and full-service sites with electric, water, and sewer hookups, and the shower house provides flush toilets, hot showers, and potable water. Alcohol is prohibited in Pennsylvania state parks and rangers do enforce the rule.
Cell service is unpredictable in and around many Pennsylvania State Parks, so download the park map before your visit. Private campgrounds along the Susquehanna tend to be more open, with river views, camp stores, and family amenities like mini-golf and playgrounds.

On RVezy, travel trailers typically start around $80 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $275 per night, and luxury Class A rigs run $250 to $400+ nightly. Because Bloomfield sits in Perry County (away from big-city pricing pressure in Harrisburg), you'll often find better daily rates than in nearby metro areas. Many owners knock 10 to 15 percent off for stays of five nights or longer.
visitpaamericana.com/What license do I need to rent an RV in Bloomfield, PA?
Easy news first: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Pennsylvania, no commercial driver's license (CDL) or special endorsement required for the RVs available on RVezy. You'll need to be at least 25 years old with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the US or Canada? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association before your trip, usually for under $25. That's truly it. Most first-time renters in Perry County are surprised how straightforward the paperwork side of an RV rental Pennsylvania trip really is.
dmv.pa.gov/Driver-Services/Driver-Licensing/Pages/default.aspxIs RV insurance and roadside assistance included with my Bloomfield RV rental?
Yes, every RV rental in Bloomfield booked through RVezy includes a protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance. You choose your protection level at checkout (not the host), so you can match the coverage to your comfort and budget. Roadside assistance is just a phone call away if you get a flat on Route 322 or need a jump at Little Buffalo State Park, and tow, mobile mechanic, and lockout help are part of the package. Many first-time guests tell us this built-in coverage is what gave them the confidence to book their first motorhome rental in Bloomfield.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat if I need to cancel my Bloomfield RV rental?
Plans change, and RVezy makes cancellations clear. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every booking (it is not host-defined), and the applicable policy and refund details are shown at checkout before you confirm. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds you or helps you rebook so your RV camping Bloomfield trip stays on track. Booking early locks in the best rigs and rates for Perry County's busy spring and fall weekends. Review the cancellation terms at checkout, then book the dates you really want with confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV trip from Bloomfield, PA?
Absolutely, Bloomfield is a great launchpad for a pet-friendly RV rental Bloomfield adventure. On RVezy, just flip on the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see plenty of hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) in their rigs. Once you arrive, your pup will love Little Buffalo State Park, just 10 minutes from Bloomfield, which allows leashed pets on trails and in designated camping loops. Tuscarora State Forest also has miles of dog-friendly forest roads to explore. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee (usually $50 to $150 per trip) and ask about a fenced area for unloading, this small step makes drop-off way smoother.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/little-buffalo-state-park.htmlCan the RV be delivered to me in Bloomfield or nearby campgrounds?
Yes, RV delivery is one of the most popular options for an RV rental in Bloomfield, especially for first-timers who would rather skip driving a big rig through Perry County's winding back roads. Many RVezy hosts will deliver and set up your RV at Little Buffalo State Park, Colonel Denning State Park, or a nearby private RV park, then walk you through every system before they leave. Delivery fees are set by the host and commonly run a few dollars per mile from their location. Filter listings by Delivery on RVezy to see who offers it, and ask for a full setup (water, power, slide-outs, awning) so you can unlock the door and start vacationing.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Bloomfield%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow far can I travel from Bloomfield on an RV trip?
Plenty far, Bloomfield's central PA location makes it a fantastic hub for an RV road trip from Bloomfield. Hosts on RVezy set their own mileage policies, with daily allowances typically ranging from 100 to 150 free miles, and some listings even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage (look for it in the listing details). Popular trips include Gettysburg (about 50 miles south), Hersheypark (45 miles east), Raystown Lake (75 miles west), the Pocono Mountains (about 150 miles northeast), and Niagara Falls (around 280 miles north). Pro tip: if you're planning a longer haul, message the host to negotiate a bulk mileage add-on, it's almost always cheaper than paying overage fees later.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhere are the best campgrounds near Bloomfield, PA?
You are spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Bloomfield include Little Buffalo State Park (about 10 minutes away, with a lake, pool, and electric tent and trailer sites), Colonel Denning State Park (about 25 miles west in the Tuscarora State Forest, with peaceful wooded sites), Cowans Gap State Park (about an hour southwest with a sandy swim beach), and Gifford Pinchot State Park (about 45 minutes east with electric sites and lake access). Private options like Western Village RV Park near Carlisle add full hookups and resort-style amenities. Pennsylvania state park sites open for reservations up to 12 months in advance, so book Little Buffalo as soon as your dates are set, summer weekends fill quickly.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/little-buffalo-state-park.htmlWhen is the best time to take an RV trip from Bloomfield, PA?
Late April through late October is prime time for RV camping Bloomfield, with the absolute sweet spots being May (wildflowers, 65 to 75°F days) and late September through mid-October (Perry County's fall foliage is genuinely spectacular, with reds and golds peaking around Columbus Day). Summer (June to August) is warm and humid, 80 to 90°F, perfect for swimming at Little Buffalo Lake. Winter rentals are possible too, several RVezy hosts offer four-season rigs with heated tanks and furnace setups, great for hunting season or a quiet snowy retreat. Pro tip: book your fall foliage trip by July, leaf-peeper weekends at Pennsylvania state parks sell out months ahead.
weather.gov/ctp/I've never rented an RV before, will I be okay driving around Bloomfield?
You're going to do great. First time renting an RV is easier than most people expect, and Bloomfield is actually one of the friendlier places to learn, rural roads, light traffic, and short drives to your destination. Every RVezy host gives you a full walk-through at pickup covering driving, leveling, hookups, water, propane, and the dump system, and you can call or text them anytime during your trip with questions. The protection package and 24/7 roadside assistance are already included, so you're not on your own. Pro tip: take a short practice loop on Route 274 before heading to a campground, it's straight, quiet, and great for getting comfortable with the rig's length and mirrors.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Safety/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if something goes wrong with my RV during the trip?
You're never stranded. Every RV rental in Bloomfield, PA includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the standard protection package, so a flat tire on Route 22, a dead battery at Colonel Denning, or a stuck slide-out is one phone call away from being handled. RVezy customer support is also available before, during, and after your trip, and your host is usually quick to respond by text for quick-fix questions like 'how do I reset the inverter?' Tow trucks, mobile mechanics, and lockout service are all part of the deal. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before you leave, you'll probably never need it, but it's reassuring to have.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/SafetyandMaintenance/Pages/default.aspxCan I take my Bloomfield RV rental into other states or Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is absolutely allowed and very popular for an RV road trip from Bloomfield. Most hosts welcome trips throughout the US, so Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, New York, Ohio, and New Jersey are all easy options. Cross-border travel to Canada (Niagara Falls is just under 5 hours north) may be allowed depending on the specific host and the protection package, message the host before booking to confirm. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental due to insurance coverage limits. Pro tip: if you're planning a multi-state route, mention it during your initial host message, owners appreciate the heads-up and may pre-approve extra mileage for you.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much fuel will I need for my Bloomfield RV trip?
Easier on the wallet than you'd think for the size of the rig. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves (your tow vehicle does, usually 10 to 14 mpg loaded), Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 mpg on Pennsylvania's rolling terrain, and Class A rigs run about 7 to 10 mpg. Pennsylvania gas prices typically run a bit above the national average due to state fuel taxes, so budget around $4.00 per gallon for unleaded and $4.25 for diesel as a planning number. Pro tip: fill up at the Sheetz or Rutter's in Newport or Duncannon before heading deeper into Perry County, prices are usually lower than at the smaller stations along Route 274.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Bloomfield?
For peak summer weekends and fall foliage, the earlier the better. Pennsylvania state parks like Little Buffalo, Colonel Denning, and Gifford Pinchot open reservations up to 12 months in advance through the official Pennsylvania state parks reservation system, and the prime electric sites at Little Buffalo are often claimed quickly for July, August, and October weekends. Private parks generally book 2 to 4 months out, and weeknight stays are much more relaxed, you can often grab a site a few days ahead. Pro tip: if your first choice is full, check for cancellations on Sunday evenings, that is when many travelers release sites and you can score a great spot last minute.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the driving conditions like around Bloomfield, PA?
Bloomfield's roads are RV-friendly with a little awareness. Route 274 and Route 34 are the main arteries through Perry County, both two-lane rural highways with gentle curves and light traffic, ideal for getting comfortable behind the wheel. Watch for steeper grades on Route 850 over Tuscarora Mountain and keep an eye out for Amish buggies on side roads, especially around Loysville and Blain. Winter (December to February) can bring snow and ice, so check conditions on 511PA before traveling. Pro tip: stick to PA Turnpike (I-76) or Route 322 for longer hauls east toward Hershey or Harrisburg, both have wide lanes and clearly marked rest stops where you can stretch out the rig.
511pa.com/What amenities do campgrounds near Bloomfield typically offer?
Great variety, depending on the park. Pennsylvania state parks near Bloomfield like Little Buffalo and Colonel Denning generally offer electric hookups (30 or 50 amp), modern restrooms, hot showers, and centralized water fill stations and dump stations (no individual sewer hookups). Private parks like Western Village RV Park near Carlisle and Twin Grove RV Resort in Pine Grove offer full hookups (water, sewer, electric), plus extras like pools, laundry, and Wi-Fi. Most state park sites include a fire ring and picnic table. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank before leaving the campground and use the dump station on your way out, it's right at the exit at both Little Buffalo and Colonel Denning and saves you a stop later.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/colonel-denning-state-park.htmlWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Bloomfield?
More creature comforts than you'd guess. Most motorhome rental Bloomfield and travel trailer listings on RVezy come fully equipped with a queen or king bed, bunk or convertible sofa for kids, a kitchen with stove, microwave, fridge, and sink, a wet or dry bath with shower and toilet, air conditioning, propane furnace, and dinette seating with seatbelts for travel. Many include a TV, outdoor speakers, and an awning, and Class A or larger Class C rigs often have onboard generators for off-grid stays. Wi-Fi varies, some hosts include a hotspot for an add-on fee. Pro tip: check the listing photos carefully for the bed configuration, and message the host if you need a specific setup like bunks for a family RV trip Bloomfield.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/things-to-do/camping.htmlWhat add-ons and pickup options can I choose when I rent an RV in Bloomfield?
Lots of helpful extras. When you rent an RV in Bloomfield, hosts commonly offer add-ons like bedding and linen packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits, camping chairs, outdoor grills, generators, bike racks, and propane refills. Pickup is typically at the host's home or a nearby meetup spot, and many also offer delivery to local campgrounds for $2 to $4 per mile. Daily mileage allowances usually fall between 100 and 150 free miles, with overages around $0.35 to $0.50 per mile, and some listings offer unlimited mileage on longer trips. Pro tip: bundle bedding plus a kitchen kit if you're flying into Harrisburg International Airport (45 minutes from Bloomfield), you'll skip a Walmart run and start your trip faster.
flyhia.com/How does payment and the security deposit work for an RVezy rental in Bloomfield?
Simple and secure. Payment for your campervan rental in Bloomfield or motorhome trip is handled entirely through RVezy, no cash, checks, or off-platform transfers, just a major credit or debit card at checkout. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment before the trip and is released after the host confirms the RV was returned in good condition, typically within a few days of return. Pro tip: take date-stamped photos and a quick video walk-around at both pickup and return, this 5-minute habit is the best way to keep your deposit refund smooth and avoid disputes later.
