Campgrounds near Continental Courts
Continental Courts is a small census-designated place in Benner Township, Centre County, Pennsylvania, sitting in the Buffalo Run Valley about six miles southwest of Bellefonte and roughly seven miles north of State College. Bald Eagle Mountain rises to the northwest, and the community is a short drive from Interstate 99 and Interstate 80, which makes the area a practical staging point for RV trips into the surrounding forest and state park corridor.
The closest private options include Gram and Paps Fort Bellefonte Campground and the Centre County Grange Fairgrounds, both within the Bellefonte and Centre Hall corridor. For state park camping, Black Moshannon State Park sits west of the community on the Allegheny Plateau, while Greenwood Furnace State Park lies south across the Seven Mountains ridge in Huntingdon County.
For an amenity-heavy RV base with hookups and family activities, the Bellefonte / State College KOA Holiday is the largest private campground in the area and a common choice for Penn State visitors.
Things to do near Continental Courts
Outdoor recreation clusters around water and state forest. Black Moshannon State Park centers on a 250-acre lake with tea-colored water tinted by tannins from surrounding bogs, offering swimming, boating with electric motors, fishing, and a boardwalk through bog habitat within the Black Moshannon State Natural Area. The park sits within the 43,000-acre Moshannon State Forest and serves as a gateway to the 40-mile Allegheny Front Trail loop.
Greenwood Furnace State Park pairs a small trout-stocked lake with the historic remains of a 19th-century ironmaking village, and it opens the door to roughly 80,000 acres of Rothrock State Forest for mountain biking, backpacking, and hunting.
Closer in, Penn State University, the Palmer Museum of Art, Penn's Cave, and Victorian downtown Bellefonte give families indoor and cultural options when weather turns.

Central Pennsylvania has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. Winters are cold and snowy, with January averaging highs near the mid-30s Fahrenheit and lows around 20, and roughly 44 inches of snow annually across the State College area. Most private campgrounds close or reduce services during this stretch, and state park campgrounds in the immediate area follow seasonal calendars.
Spring brings mud, unpredictable rain, and rising temperatures. Both Black Moshannon and Greenwood Furnace campgrounds open on the second Friday in April, aligned with the start of trout season. May and June tend to be among the wettest months, so plan for storm days.
Summer is the peak RV season, with warm days averaging near 81°F and comfortable humidity. Fall delivers the region's strongest color across the Seven Mountains and the Allegheny Front, along with cooler nights. Greenwood Furnace closes its campground in mid-November, while Black Moshannon stays open into mid-December after deer season. Penn State home football weekends fill campgrounds well in advance.
How to book campgrounds near Continental Courts
Pennsylvania state park sites at Black Moshannon and Greenwood Furnace are booked through the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests reservation system, run on the ReserveAmerica platform. Most sites can be reserved up to 11 months in advance, to noon of the day of arrival, and reservations can also be made by calling 888-PA-PARKS. A limited number of first-come, first-served sites may be available directly at the campground.
Private campgrounds use their own systems. The Bellefonte / State College KOA Holiday takes reservations online or by phone, and demand spikes sharply for Penn State football weekends, graduation, and parents weekends.
For Penn State event weekends and summer holidays, book several months out. Midweek stays in late spring and early fall usually have wider availability.
What to expect on arrival
Roads in this part of central Pennsylvania are mountainous but well maintained, with the main approaches following I-99, I-80, and US 322. Cell service can drop inside state parks and along parts of Rothrock and Moshannon state forests, so download park maps and directions before leaving the highway corridor.
State park campgrounds offer a mix of electric and non-electric tent and trailer sites, sanitary dump stations, hot showers, and flush toilets. Black Moshannon has a limited number of full-hookup sites, while Greenwood Furnace offers electric hookups on most of its 49 tent and trailer sites. The KOA offers full hookups and family amenities.
Black bears live throughout the surrounding forests, so store food securely overnight. Quiet hours at Pennsylvania state parks run from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m., and alcoholic beverages are not permitted in Pennsylvania state parks except in specific overnight rental facilities.

June and early September are golden: warm days, fewer bugs, and easier campground availability. Fall foliage peaks mid-October and is absolutely spectacular in the Ridge and Valley region. Winters are cold (often in the 20s with snow), so most campgrounds close November to April. Pro tip: avoid Penn State home football Saturdays unless that's your plan, traffic and prices both jump noticeably across Centre County.
weather.gov/ctp/I'm first time renting an RV. Will I get help figuring it all out?

Many also send video tutorials beforehand and stay reachable by text during your trip. If you'd rather skip driving entirely, choose a host who delivers and sets up at the campground. Pro tip: start with a shorter first trip to somewhere easy like Bellefonte/State College KOA, less than 10 minutes away, so you can settle into the rig before tackling a longer road trip.

cbp.gov/travelHow much should I budget for fuel on my Continental Courts RV trip?
Fuel is one of the biggest line items, so plan smart. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class B campervans get 14 to 20, and a truck pulling a travel trailer averages 10 to 14. With Pennsylvania gas prices hovering around $3.40 to $3.70 per gallon, a 300-mile loop from Continental Courts to Raystown Lake and back runs roughly $100 to $150 in fuel. Diesel rigs cost more per gallon but go further. Book early and you'll have your pick of the prettiest sites. Pennsylvania State Parks like Bald Eagle and Black Moshannon open reservations 11 months in advance through the official state system, and Penn State home-game weekends fill the moment slots open.
