Campgrounds near Dallas, Pennsylvania
Dallas sits in the Back Mountain area of Luzerne County in northeastern Pennsylvania, part of the greater Wyoming Valley and Pocono region, and is roughly two hours from Philadelphia and New York City. The area is easily reached via Interstates 80, 81, and 84, with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport located nearby. RV renters use Dallas as a base for lake recreation, forested trails, and small-town festivals across the Back Mountain and Wyoming Valley.
The closest public campground is Frances Slocum State Park, a 1,035-acre park in northeastern Pennsylvania's Luzerne County built around a horseshoe-shaped 165-acre lake popular for boating and fishing. Private options within a short drive include Highland Campgrounds, Council Cup Campground, Moyers Grove Campground, and Slumber Valley Campground, giving renters a mix of full-hookup and partial-hookup sites in wooded settings.
Most campgrounds in this region sit within an easy drive of Wilkes-Barre and the Susquehanna River, with additional public land at Ricketts Glen and Nescopeck State Parks to the north and south.
Things to do near Dallas
At Frances Slocum State Park, campers can paddle the lake with canoe or kayak rentals, hike marked trails, mountain bike, and use the seasonal swimming pool near the campground. A valid Pennsylvania fishing license is required for anglers aged 16 and older, and the day-use area includes rentable pavilions with tables and grills.
Off-park attractions are easy day trips. The Lands at Hillside Farms in Shavertown is a working non-profit farm with a store known for homemade ice cream, and Knoebels Amusement Resort offers free admission with rides, food, and a swimming pool. Families also head to Ricketts Glen State Park for its waterfall trail system, or into Wilkes-Barre for the F.M. Kirby Center, minor-league baseball at PNC Field, and shops along the Susquehanna riverfront.

The Frances Slocum campground opens in mid-April and closes in mid-October, and Council Cup Campground is open from April through November. Most private parks in the area follow a similar warm-weather window, so RV renters targeting May through early October will find the widest selection of open sites and full services such as pools, camp stores, and boat rentals.
Summer weekends fill quickly, especially at the state park, and early booking is essential for holiday weekends and prime lakefront loops. September brings the Luzerne County Fair at the fairgrounds in Dallas, followed by strong fall foliage into mid-October, making early autumn one of the busiest and most scenic times to visit.
Winter closes most private campgrounds, though Frances Slocum State Park itself stays open year-round for day use, with ice skating, sledding, and cross-country skiing available during winter, weather permitting.
How to book campsites near Dallas
Sites at Frances Slocum State Park are reserved through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system, either online at www.dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks or by calling toll-free 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757). Most campsites in Pennsylvania state parks can be reserved 11 months in advance to noon of the day of arrival.
Private campgrounds including Highland Campgrounds, Council Cup Campground, Moyers Grove Campground, and Slumber Valley Campground handle reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. For summer weekends and fall foliage dates, RV renters should book several weeks out and confirm rig-length limits, hookup type, and pet rules before arrival.
What to expect on the ground
The Frances Slocum campground has 100 sites available from mid-April to mid-October, including 85 tent or trailer sites with some ADA accessible and some with electric hookups, plus 15 walk-in tent sites for added privacy. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring, pets are permitted on designated sites, and the loop offers flush toilets, showers, drinking water, a sanitary dump station, and a boat launch. Swimming is only allowed in the pool, not the lake.
Private parks in the area lean toward wooded RV sites with a mix of hookup levels. Council Cup spans 400 acres and features a 25-foot waterfall along with miles of scenic hiking trails. Cell service can be spotty in the hills, so renters should download maps and reservation confirmations before leaving town.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Dallas, PA?
An RV rental in Dallas, PA is one of the most budget friendly ways to explore the Back Mountain and Pocono region. On RVezy, travel trailers typically run around $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes range from about $175 to $275 per night, and luxury Class A motorhomes start near $250. Booking midweek or during shoulder seasons like late April or late September can shave 20 to 30 percent off peak summer rates. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Dallas%2C%20PennsylvaniaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Dallas, PA?
For nearly every RV rental in Dallas, PA, a regular Class C Pennsylvania driver's license (the standard one almost everyone has) is all you need. Pennsylvania only requires a non-commercial Class B license when the RV's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating exceeds 26,001 pounds, and the vast majority of travel trailers, campervans, and Class C motorhomes on RVezy fall well under that. Visiting from abroad? Pair your home license with an International Driving Permit from your local auto club before your trip. Approved RVezy renters are generally 25 or older, and the platform verifies your ID during checkout, so there's no paperwork shuffle at pickup.

weather.gov/ctp/I'm renting an RV for the first time. How does pickup work?
First time renting an RV? You're in great hands in Dallas, PA. Every RVezy host runs a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, usually 30 to 60 minutes, covering driving feel, propane, the fridge, slide-outs, the generator, water tanks, and the awning. Many hosts shoot you a video tour ahead of time too, so nothing's a surprise. If you'd rather skip driving entirely, book a delivery-and-setup listing and the host pulls into your campsite, sets up, and hands you the keys to a ready-to-camp rig. Pro tip: write down your host's number after the walkthrough; nearly every owner is happy to answer a quick text from the road, whether you're at Frances Slocum or rolling toward Jim Thorpe.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat's the realistic fuel budget for an RV trip from Dallas, PA?

Budget roughly $0.30 to $0.50 per mile for fuel on most rigs. Winter brings snow and ice from December through March, so check forecasts before heading out. Pro tip: avoid I-81 around Scranton during weekday rush hour (4 to 6 pm) when traffic backs up near the Montage exit.

Payment is simple and secure. When you book your RV rental in Dallas, PA on RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, with no cash exchanged with the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment, typically in the $500 to $1,500 range depending on the rig, and it's released after the trip once the host confirms the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid any deductions, do a quick walkaround at pickup with the host, take date-stamped photos inside and out, return the rig with the fuel and waste tanks at the agreed levels, and respect the mileage cap. Pro tip: keep all gas receipts to easily settle any fueling questions at drop-off.
