Camping near Everett, Pennsylvania
Everett sits in Bedford County along the Raystown Branch of the Juniata River, in the Ridge and Valley section of the Appalachian Mountains. The borough is bracketed by US 30 and I-70, with the Pennsylvania Turnpike a short drive north, making it a practical staging point for RV travelers coming from Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Baltimore, or Washington. Camping near Everett includes a mix of a nearby state park, private campgrounds, and river-corridor RV parks, with most options situated within a short drive of downtown Bedford.
Private options close to Everett include Brush Creek Campground and Breezewood Proving Grounds near the I-70/I-76 interchange, plus Friendship Village Campground and RV Park, Choice Camping Court, and Heritage Cove Resort along the river corridor. These parks range from full-hookup family resorts with waterfront sites and ponds to smaller, quieter RV courts near the interstates.
Ten miles west of Bedford along US 30, Shawnee State Park covers 3,983 acres of the Ridge and Valley Province and centers on the 451-acre Shawnee Lake, adding a public-land option with a lake, beach, and roughly 200 campsites.
Things to do around Everett
The Raystown Branch of the Juniata River supports fishing and paddling within minutes of most campgrounds in the Everett corridor. Shawnee Lake adds warmwater fishing, swimming, and boat rentals on its 451-acre reservoir, which is the focal point of Shawnee State Park. For hiking, Blue Knob State Park sits within an easy drive and offers year-round wilderness on 6,128 acres of woodland, with 18 miles of multi-use trails climbing toward Pennsylvania's second-highest peak at 3,146 feet. Families can also work in Old Bedford Village, the Bedford County covered-bridge driving tour, Coral Caverns, and Gravity Hill for shorter outings between camp days.

The camping window in Bedford County runs roughly from mid-April into late October, with peak occupancy on summer weekends and holiday periods. Most private campgrounds in the area operate seasonally, though several remain open year-round with reduced services during winter. Public land follows a similar schedule: the Shawnee State Park camping season begins the second Friday in April and ends in late December, a two-night minimum applies for Saturday reservations in the summer season, and stays are capped at 14 consecutive nights from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Blue Knob's tent and trailer sites open from the second Friday in April to the third Sunday in October.
Spring brings the year's highest rainfall, so lower riverside sites can be soft. Summer is warm and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common. Fall delivers strong color in the Alleghenies through mid-October and pairs with local events; the Bedford County Fall Foliage Festival draws heavy weekend traffic through downtown Bedford.
Winter access is limited. Mountain elevations run noticeably colder than the valley floor around Everett, and Blue Knob averages about 12 feet of snow annually, well above valley totals.
How to book campgrounds near Everett
State-park sites at Shawnee and Blue Knob are handled through the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests reservation system. Online reservations can be made for day use and overnight facilities, or by calling toll-free 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), from 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday to Saturday. Most campsites can be reserved up to 11 months in advance to noon of the day of arrival. Summer weekends and holiday weeks at Shawnee typically fill early, so book as soon as the 11-month window opens if a specific loop or full-hookup site matters.
Private campgrounds around Everett, including Brush Creek Campground, Breezewood Proving Grounds, Friendship Village Campground and RV Park, Choice Camping Court, and Heritage Cove Resort, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Confirm rig-length limits, hookup type, and pet rules at the time of booking.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Everett is a mix of narrow river bottoms and wooded ridges. Sites at the private parks tend to be gravel pads with mature-tree canopy; state-park loops at Shawnee are more open. Each Shawnee campsite has a picnic table and fire ring, many sites have electric service and some have full-hookup with sewer, water, and electricity, and there is a sanitary dump station and centrally located shower houses with flush toilets and showers.
Highway noise is a real factor to plan around. Campgrounds closer to I-70 and I-76 at Breezewood trade some quiet for easy fuel and resupply.
Cell service is unpredictable in and around many Pennsylvania State Parks, so downloading the park map before a visit is recommended. Carry offline navigation for state-forest roads.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Everett, PA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Everett, PA?
RV rental in Everett is one of the most affordable ways to experience the Allegheny Mountains. On RVezy, expect roughly $90 to $175 per night for travel trailers and campervans, while larger Class A and Class C motorhomes typically run $175 to $325 per night, plus fuel and any optional add-ons. For a cheap RV rental in Everett, book mid-week stays in May or October, look for hosts offering weekly discounts, and consider travel trailers, which tend to offer the best value. Bundling delivery with a longer stay can also be more economical than paying daily mileage on a long road trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Everett%2C%20PennsylvaniaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Everett, PA?
Good news: a regular Pennsylvania Class C driver's license, the standard everyday license, is all you need to drive nearly every RV listed on RVezy in Everett. Pennsylvania only requires a Non-Commercial Class B license if the motorhome's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) exceeds 26,000 pounds, and the vast majority of rental Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, and travel trailers fall well below that threshold. To book on RVezy, approved drivers are generally required to be 25 or older, and ID verification is handled inside the platform. Visiting from abroad? Pair your home license with an International Driving Permit and you're ready to roll down the Lincoln Highway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included when I rent an RV in Everett?
Every RV rental in Everett booked through RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance included, so you can focus on the views of the Allegheny Mountains instead of worrying about what-ifs. RVezy offers multiple protection tiers, and you choose your coverage level at checkout, not the host, which means you stay in control of your peace of mind. The plan covers eligible damage to the vehicle during your trip, plus emergency dispatch if you have a flat or breakdown on Route 30 or the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Coverage details and limits are fully outlined on the RVezy insurance and protection page before you book.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat if my plans change after I book? Can I cancel my Everett RV rental?
Yes. RVezy applies a standard cancellation policy to every booking, including a money-back grace period right after you reserve, so booking an Everett RV trip is genuinely low-risk. Cancellation outcomes depend on how close you are to your trip start date, and the policy is managed by RVezy rather than individual hosts, so the rules are consistent no matter which Everett-area RV you choose. If a host cancels, RVezy will help you secure a refund or rebooking credit. If a winter forecast turns rough over the Allegheny ridges or life simply happens, reach out to RVezy support and they'll walk you through your options so you can book with confidence and start planning your trip to Raystown Lake.

Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Everett is easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when searching and you'll see listings where four-legged co-pilots are welcome. Once you arrive, Shawnee State Park near Schellsburg allows leashed pets on designated campsites, and the Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site has pet-friendly trails just up the road. Friendship Village Campground in Bedford also welcomes well-behaved pups. Message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee and ask about nearby dog-walking spots. The quiet streets and parks around Everett also make for easy morning walks with your dog.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/shawnee-state-park.htmlCan the RV be delivered to a campground near Everett?
Yes, RV delivery in Everett is one of the smartest moves for first-timers and families. Many RVezy hosts in Bedford County will deliver the RV directly to your campsite at Shawnee State Park, Friendship Village Campground, or a Raystown Lake area campground, then level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before they leave. That means no towing, no backing in, and no figuring out the awning on your own. Just filter for Delivery on RVezy, then message the host with your campground name and site number. It's the easiest way to start a motorhome rental in Everett.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Everett%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow far can I drive on an Everett RV road trip?
Plenty far. Everett sits right on US Route 30 (the historic Lincoln Highway) and minutes from Interstate 76 (the Pennsylvania Turnpike) and Interstate 70, putting iconic destinations within an easy day's drive. Raystown Lake is about 30 miles north, Ohiopyle State Park and the Laurel Highlands sit roughly 75 miles west, Gettysburg is around 90 miles east, and Pittsburgh is about 120 miles west. Each RVezy host sets their own mileage policy, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for an RV road trip from Everett. Filter for unlimited mileage in search, or message hosts to add extra miles before booking.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Everett%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhere are the best campgrounds near Everett, PA?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Everett. Shawnee State Park in Schellsburg (about 15 miles west) offers nearly 300 campsites on a 451-acre lake with swimming, boating, and miles of hiking trails. Friendship Village Campground in Bedford has full-hookup pull-throughs and big-rig access, while the Raystown Lake area offers KOA and private campgrounds with 50-amp sites and family activities. For something quieter, Hideaway Campground right in Everett feels truly tucked away. Insider tip: Bedford County is loaded with covered bridges, so plan a slow scenic drive between campgrounds.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/shawnee-state-park.htmlWhen is the best time of year for an Everett RV trip?
Late April through late October is the sweet spot for an Everett RV trip, with the absolute peak being mid-September through mid-October when the Allegheny Mountains light up with fall color along the Lincoln Highway. Summer highs in Everett typically sit in the upper 70s to mid-80s Fahrenheit, spring and fall hover in the 50s and 60s, and winter brings snow with temperatures often in the 20s and 30s. May and September are local favorites: fewer bugs, fewer crowds, and excellent foliage or wildflowers depending on the season. Book your fall foliage rental by July, since those weekends fill quickly.
weather.gov/ctp/Can I rent an RV in Everett in the winter?
Yes, winter RV rental in Everett is doable and can be especially scenic when Blue Knob State Park, home to one of Pennsylvania's highest peaks, is blanketed in snow. Bedford County winters are cold (often 20 to 35 degrees Fahrenheit with snow possible from December through March), so look for RVs with heated holding tanks, propane furnaces, and four-season insulation. Use the RVezy message tool to confirm winter readiness before booking, and plan to camp at a site with electric shore power so you can run the heater all night. Combine a ski day at Blue Knob with a warm campervan rental in Everett for a true mountain retreat.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/blue-knob-state-park.htmlI've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You're going to do great, and Everett is one of the friendlier places to start. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the slide-outs, water system, generator, and dump procedures before you ever turn a key. For first time renting an RV in Pennsylvania, choose a smaller Class C motorhome or travel trailer (most rentals here are under 30 feet) and pick a nearby campground like Shawnee State Park, only about 20 minutes from Everett, so your first drive is short and scenic. You can message the host with questions before booking, and RVezy support is available throughout your trip.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/shawnee-state-park.htmlWhat happens if I have a breakdown during my Everett RV rental?
You're covered. Every RV rental in Everett booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the standard renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you're on Route 30 in Bedford County or deep into a trip through the Laurel Highlands. The service handles flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing dispatch. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app, since they know the rig inside out. Snap a photo of your RV's roadside assistance card and any propane shutoff locations during your walkthrough so you're ready for anything.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Everett RV rental into other states or Canada?
Yes, a multi-state RV road trip from Everett is one of the best parts of basing here, with easy reach to Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and Ohio. Popular routes include heading south to Rocky Gap State Park in Maryland (about 35 miles) or east to Gettysburg and the Chesapeake Bay. Cross-border travel into Canada may be permitted depending on the host and insurance terms, so message the host before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend there. Stick to the US and Canada and you've got a continent to explore.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on an Everett RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable in your budget, but it's predictable once you know the rig. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 miles per gallon, Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 mpg, and larger Class A motorhomes usually run 6 to 10 mpg. Pennsylvania gas prices tend to sit slightly above the national average, so check current local pricing when planning. For a 300-mile loop to Raystown Lake and back through Bedford, budget accordingly for a Class C based on current pump prices. The travel plaza area near Breezewood (just a few miles from Everett) is a convenient fuel stop on Interstate 70.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Everett?
For Pennsylvania state parks like Shawnee, Blue Knob, and nearby Trough Creek, reservations open 11 months in advance through the official Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system, and prime summer weekends and fall foliage dates can fill within days of opening. Private campgrounds like Friendship Village and Raystown-area KOAs usually accept bookings 6 to 12 months ahead. For the best campgrounds near Everett during peak season, lock in your site 3 to 6 months out. Insider tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Thursday) often have openings even in July and can help you avoid 2-night weekend minimums at state parks.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/what-to-do/stay-overnight/rv-and-tent-campsites.htmlWhat are the driving conditions like around Everett?
Driving an RV around Everett is genuinely manageable, even for first-timers, thanks to wide, well-maintained roads like US Route 30 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The main thing to watch is mountain grades: the climbs and descents around Bedford on Route 30 and into the Juniata River valley can be steep, so downshift and use engine braking rather than riding the brakes. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk, especially along Route 26 north toward Raystown. Winter can bring snow and ice from December through March. Insider tip: avoid Breezewood's busy traffic-light cluster at rush hour when possible.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Safety/Pages/default.aspxWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Everett?
Campgrounds around Everett range from full-hookup luxury to peaceful rustic sites, so there's a fit for every rig. Friendship Village Campground in Bedford and Raystown-area KOA campgrounds offer 50-amp electric, water, and sewer hookups, plus dump stations, hot showers, laundry, and camp stores selling firewood and propane. Shawnee State Park has electric hookups, modern flush-toilet bathhouses, and a sanitary dump station near the campground entrance. Pennsylvania state parks generally have potable water spigots near restrooms. Top off propane in Bedford before heading deep into the Allegheny ridges, since options thin out fast once you leave town.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/what-to-do/stay-overnight/rv-and-tent-campsites.htmlWhat's actually inside the RVs I can rent in Everett?
Most RV rentals in Everett come fully equipped and ready for a family RV trip the moment you turn the key. Expect a queen or king bed plus bunks or convertible dinettes that sleep 4 to 8 total, a kitchen with a propane stove, microwave, refrigerator and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning, propane furnace, and seatbelts for every passenger. Many rigs include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, and onboard generator, and some hosts offer WiFi hotspots as an add-on. Listings on RVezy show exact specs, photos, and sleep count. Filter by your exact passenger count to find your perfect fit.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Everett%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhat add-ons and pickup options do Everett RV hosts offer?
Everett hosts make it easy to customize your trip. Popular add-ons include camp chairs and outdoor tables, bedding and linen packages, generator use, propane refills, bike racks, kayaks, and pet cleaning fees if you're traveling with a dog. Delivery and setup is offered by many hosts, typically charged per mile from the listing location, and is a game-changer for first-timers. Mileage policies vary: some include 100 to 150 free miles per night, others offer RV rental with unlimited mileage. Pickup usually happens at the host's home in or near Everett, with a thorough 30 to 45 minute walkthrough. Ask about an early evening pickup the day before to save a full vacation day.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Everett%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow does payment and the security deposit work for an Everett RV rental?
Payment on RVezy is simple and secure: all charges happen through the platform with a major credit card, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. You'll see your full nightly rate, taxes, protection plan, and any add-ons clearly itemized before you confirm. A refundable security deposit, separate from your booking payment, is held on your card before pickup and released after the trip once the host confirms the RV is returned clean, on time, and without damage. To avoid deposit issues on your rent an RV in Everett booking, take date-stamped photos at pickup and dropoff, refill fuel and propane as agreed, and empty the holding tanks if your host requires it.
