Camping near Knoxville, Pennsylvania
Knoxville sits in northern Tioga County in the Pennsylvania Wilds region, within driving distance of the Pine Creek Gorge, commonly called the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania. RV travelers use the town as a quiet base between US 6 and the New York state line, with access to private family campgrounds, state park campgrounds, and Tioga State Forest sites.
Private options close to town include Sunflower Acres Family Campground, Crooked Creek Campground, and Snyder's Family Campground, which cater to RVs with the amenities most renters expect: hookups, playgrounds, and camp stores. State park camping is available south of Knoxville at Colton Point State Park on the west rim of Pine Creek Gorge and Leonard Harrison State Park on the east rim.
The surrounding Tioga State Forest covers 161,890 acres across Tioga and Bradford counties and holds the Pine Creek Gorge, plus improved camping areas and dispersed roadside sites for smaller rigs and tent setups.
Things to do around Knoxville
The main draw is Pine Creek Gorge. From the rim parks, visitors look down more than 600 feet to Pine Creek below, with the canyon reaching its deepest point farther south. Both Leonard Harrison and Colton Point offer scenic overlooks, and the strenuous Turkey Path from Leonard Harrison descends past waterfalls toward the canyon floor when open.
The 62-mile Pine Creek Rail Trail runs along the creek and is a favorite for biking, walking, and cross-country skiing. Pine Creek is a Pennsylvania Scenic and Wild River with seasonal rafting, canoeing, and kayaking, plus fishing.
Hills Creek State Park, a short drive south, has a lake with swimming, boating, and warm-water fishing. Wildlife in the area includes black bear, deer, turkey, bald eagles, and occasional river otters along Pine Creek.

Leonard Harrison's campground is open from mid-April until mid-October, and Colton Point's rustic family campground typically operates from early May until mid-October. Private campgrounds around Knoxville generally follow a similar April-to-October window.
Late spring brings the best water levels for paddling Pine Creek, while summer is peak season for swimming, biking the rail trail, and family camping. Sites at popular state parks book heavily on summer weekends and around holidays.
Fall foliage from late September through mid-October is the scenic highlight, with the canyon views drawing large day-use crowds. Winter closes most developed campgrounds; snowmobiling and cross-country skiing continue in Tioga State Forest, but RV facilities are limited off-season.

We had an awesome experience renting Mikayla’s camper and would absolutely rent it again! From the first moment we spoke, to picking it up and dropping it off, everything was simple and stress-free. Hitching and unhitching were easy, and Mikayla had everything we needed for full hookups—sewer line, water hoses, water filter, and even a drill for the leveling jacks. What really impressed us was how well stocked the camper was. Plates, silverware, cooking supplies, sugar, cooking spray, beds with full linens, and towels—you could tell a lot of thought went into making sure guests had everything they needed. There was plenty of room for our family of four, and we had a fantastic camping trip. If you’re considering renting this camper, I highly recommend it!

What to expect in Knoxville
Private campgrounds near Knoxville generally offer the RV amenities most renters need: electric and water hookups, dump stations, restrooms with showers, and family features like playgrounds and pools. Expect wooded, rolling terrain and mixed gravel or grass sites.
State park campgrounds vary. Leonard Harrison has modern sites with electric, non-electric, and pet-friendly loops, plus a sanitary dump station, flush toilets, and warm showers. Colton Point is rustic: 19 sites with picnic tables, fire rings, vault toilets, and water spigots, and no electric hookups or showers. Tioga State Forest sites have no electric hookups, dump stations, or trash disposal.
Cell service is spotty in the gorge and along forest roads. Bears are present, so food storage discipline matters. Roads into Colton Point and forest campsites are dirt or gravel and can be tight for larger rigs.
