Camping near Lenkerville, Pennsylvania
Lenkerville is a small census-designated place in Upper Paxton Township, Dauphin County, sitting just south of Millersburg along Pennsylvania Route 147 on the east bank of the Susquehanna River. The area works well as a base for RV travelers exploring central Pennsylvania, with the river corridor to the west and the ridges of the Appalachian region to the east.
Campground options within an easy drive range from riverfront private parks to a Pennsylvania state park with modern hookups. Ferryboat Campsites sits directly on the Susquehanna in nearby Liverpool, Camp Hebron occupies wooded terrain in Halifax north of Harrisburg, and Little Buffalo State Park lies across the river in Perry County. Lake Heron Retreat and Shady Brook Campground and Boat Rental, LLC round out the nearby options for families looking for water access.
Harrisburg is roughly a half-hour south, putting Hershey, the state capital, and Lancaster County within reach for day trips while keeping campers well outside the busiest suburban corridors.
Things to do around Lenkerville
The Susquehanna River shapes most of the recreation in this area. At Ferryboat Campsites, guests can ride the historic Millersburg Ferry, which docks at the campground and connects the two sides of the river, and rent kayaks or canoes for paddling along the shore. Tubing, fishing, and swimming are common river activities.
Across the river in Perry County, Little Buffalo State Park centers on Holman Lake, with a swimming pool, boat rentals, and fishing for bass, catfish, and trout. Historic Shoaff's Mill and a covered bridge sit within the park, and miles of trails wind through the surrounding forest for hiking and mountain biking.
Camp Hebron in Halifax adds a swimming pool, sand volleyball, and hiking trails on 340 wooded acres near the Appalachian Trail.

The core RV season in this part of Pennsylvania runs from mid-April through mid-October. Little Buffalo State Park's campground typically opens in mid-April and closes on the third Sunday of October, and Camp Hebron follows a similar window, opening mid-April and closing in mid-October. Ferryboat Campsites operates a full seasonal schedule that begins in spring with a Welcome Back Weekend and Earth Day events and runs through the busy summer months.
Summer weekends fill up fastest. Pennsylvania state parks accept reservations up to 11 months in advance, and holiday weekends such as Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day tend to sell out at both public and private campgrounds along the river.
Spring and early fall are quieter and often cooler, with fewer bugs and easier site availability. Winter camping is limited: most private parks and the state park campground close, so travelers arriving between November and March should confirm availability directly with each operator.

Sandy went above and beyond. Leading up to the rental dates she was in communication, making sure we were on the same page. I opted for delivery rather than pickup, and she made sure the rv was delivered early so we could fully enjoy the rental dates. We had a normal issue w the AC (the unit froze) but she was very communicative and helpful until the problem was solved (she suggested to turn it to fan in case the unit was frozen, and it quickly thawed). Always very sweet and courteous, always responsive. My four year old son loved the trailer, was very upset to understand that we had to give it back 😂. Thanks, Sandy!
