Liverpool camping overview
Liverpool is a small Perry County borough on the west bank of the Susquehanna River, about 30 miles north of Harrisburg. The surrounding area mixes river-frontage RV parks with wooded state park campgrounds, giving RV renters a base for fishing, paddling, and day trips to central Pennsylvania attractions.
Ferryboat Campsites and Shady Brook Campground and Boat Rental, LLC sit close to the river and cater to boaters and anglers, while Lake Heron Retreat and Camp Hebron offer inland, wooded settings near ponds and creeks. Little Buffalo State Park, roughly a half-hour drive southwest near Newport, adds a public option with an 88-acre lake, a restored grist mill, and a modern campground loop.
Routes 11 and 15 run parallel to the river through Liverpool, making access straightforward for larger rigs coming from Harrisburg, Selinsgrove, or Williamsport. Most private campgrounds in the area open seasonally, while the state park keeps a defined mid-April through mid-October camping season.
Things to do near Liverpool
The Susquehanna River is the main draw. Liverpool sits along a stretch known for smallmouth bass fishing, and boat launches nearby give access to flat-water paddling and island exploration. The Susquehanna River Water Trail passes through the area, with publicly accessible islands offering primitive landings for boaters and kayakers.
Inland, Little Buffalo State Park covers 830 acres around Holman Lake and offers swimming at a designated beach, boat rentals, fishing for bass, catfish, and trout, the restored Shoaff's Mill, a covered bridge, and over eight miles of hiking and mountain-biking trails. Families often pair a camping stay with a stop at a local winery, the reptile-focused attractions to the north near Allenwood, or the historic canal-town streets of Liverpool itself.

The camping season in this part of Pennsylvania runs roughly from mid-April through late October. The modern campground at Little Buffalo State Park is open from mid-April to mid-October, and most private riverside campgrounds along the Susquehanna follow a similar spring-through-fall window. Winter camping options are limited, and many facilities winterize water lines by early November.
Summer is peak season. July and August bring warm, humid days, active river use, and the highest booking demand, so weekend sites at popular parks fill early. Spring shoulder weeks offer cooler nights, higher river flows for paddling, and easier reservations, though rain is more frequent.
Fall delivers the region's strongest scenery. Hardwood ridges above the river turn color from late September into mid-October, overlapping the final weeks of the state park season. Hunting seasons open in surrounding state game lands during autumn, so campers using trails should wear blaze orange where required.

Sandy went above and beyond. Leading up to the rental dates she was in communication, making sure we were on the same page. I opted for delivery rather than pickup, and she made sure the rv was delivered early so we could fully enjoy the rental dates. We had a normal issue w the AC (the unit froze) but she was very communicative and helpful until the problem was solved (she suggested to turn it to fan in case the unit was frozen, and it quickly thawed). Always very sweet and courteous, always responsive. My four year old son loved the trailer, was very upset to understand that we had to give it back 😂. Thanks, Sandy!

Sandy went out of her way to make sure my family was well accommodated during our use of her camper!

How to book campgrounds near Liverpool
Public sites are reserved through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system, operated via ReserveAmerica. Reservations for Little Buffalo State Park Campground must be made at least three days ahead of arrival and can be made up to eleven months in advance. Bookings can also be handled by calling 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), with the reservation line open Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Private campgrounds such as Ferryboat Campsites, Lake Heron Retreat, Camp Hebron, and Shady Brook Campground and Boat Rental, LLC take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Full-hookup and pull-through sites for larger RVs are limited in the area, so book those first, especially for summer weekends and holiday periods. Confirm rig-length limits and low-clearance approaches before arrival, since several access roads follow narrow river-town streets.
What to expect near Liverpool
Expect a mix of river-valley and wooded-hill camping. Sites near the Susquehanna tend to be open, grassy, and level, with easy boat access; inland sites like those at Camp Hebron and Lake Heron Retreat are more forested and quieter. Little Buffalo State Park has 46 sites, including primitive walk-to sites, standard sites, and full-service sites with electric, water, and sewer hookups, plus a shower house with flush toilets, hot showers, and potable water. A sanitary dump station is available in the campground.
Cell service is unpredictable in and around many Pennsylvania state parks, so download maps and reservation confirmations before arrival. Pets are permitted on all campsites at Little Buffalo, though policies vary at private parks. Alcohol is prohibited in Pennsylvania state parks, and rangers enforce quiet hours.

Good news: for nearly every RV rental in Liverpool, PA, your regular Class C Pennsylvania driver's license (the standard automobile license) is all you need. dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/FindAPark/LittleBuffaloStatePark/Pages/default.aspxWhen is the best time to rent an RV in Liverpool, PA?
Late April through late October is the sweet spot for RV camping Liverpool, with the absolute peak being mid-September to mid-October when the Susquehanna River Valley explodes with red and gold foliage. Summer (June to August) brings warm days in the upper 70s to mid-80s F and humid nights, perfect for river swimming and bass fishing, though July campsites book up fast. Spring (April to May) is mild and quieter, ideal for wildflower hikes at Little Buffalo State Park. Winters drop into the 20s and 30s F, but many local hosts still rent four-season rigs. Pro tip: book your fall foliage trip 9 to 11 months out for the best riverside sites.
weather.gov/ctp/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving in Liverpool, PA?
You've got this. First time renting an RV in Liverpool is genuinely manageable because the area's main routes (US 11/15 and PA 17) are wide, well-maintained two-lane highways with gentle grades along the Susquehanna River, far easier than navigating a city like Philadelphia or Pittsburgh. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup: how to level, hook up, dump, and operate everything inside. You can also message hosts ahead of time with questions, and RVezy's 24/7 support has your back during the trip. Start with a Class C motorhome or travel trailer under 25 feet for the easiest handling, and your confidence will skyrocket by mile 20.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Safety/Pages/default.aspxWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
Take a breath, you're covered. Every RV rental in Liverpool, PA booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection package, so a flat tire on Route 15 or a dead battery at Ferryboat Campsites is just a phone call away from being solved. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app for questions about quirks specific to their rig. RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after every trip. Save the roadside number to your phone before pickup, and remember the closest 24-hour services are in Selinsgrove (16 miles north) and Harrisburg (30 miles south).
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxCan I take my RV rental from Liverpool, PA across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is standard for an RV rental Pennsylvania trip, and most Liverpool hosts are happy to see their rigs explore New York's Finger Lakes, Maryland's Chesapeake shore, or West Virginia's mountains. Cross-border travel to Canada may be allowed depending on the specific host and protection package, so message them before booking to confirm. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance and protection coverage don't extend there. Popular multi-state routes from Liverpool include the Lake Erie loop through Erie, PA (4.5 hours) and the Shenandoah Valley via I-81 (3.5 hours to Front Royal, VA). Just confirm your route with the host first.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat's the fuel budget like for an RV trip from Liverpool, PA?
Plan smart and your fuel budget stays reasonable. Class B campervans typically get 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A motorhomes run 6 to 10 MPG. Pennsylvania gas prices tend to sit a bit above the national average due to state fuel taxes, so as of recent data expect roughly $3.40 to $3.80 per gallon for regular and a bit more for diesel. The nearest 24-hour fuel stops are at the Sheetz and Rutter's on Routes 11/15 just outside Liverpool. Pro tip: drive 60 mph instead of 70 on Route 15 to noticeably stretch your tank.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Liverpool, PA?
For Pennsylvania state parks like Little Buffalo, R.B. Winter, or Cowans Gap, reservations open up to 11 months in advance at noon Eastern Time through the official Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system. Summer weekends (June through August) and fall foliage weekends in October typically book within days of opening, so set a calendar reminder. Private campgrounds like Ferryboat Campsites and Hidden Valley usually have more last-minute availability but still fill 1 to 2 months ahead for prime riverside sites. Mid-week stays are easier to score across the board. Reserve your RVezy rental first, then lock in the campsite, that way your dates are firm before you compete for the perfect spot.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/what-to-do/stay-overnight/rv-and-tent-campsites.htmlWhat are the local driving conditions like around Liverpool, PA?
Driving around Liverpool is delightfully low-stress for RVers. US Routes 11 and 15 run right through town as a wide divided highway hugging the Susquehanna River, with gentle grades and clear sightlines, much easier than mountain driving in the Poconos or Laurel Highlands. Watch for the Millersburg Ferry signage south of town: do NOT let GPS route an RV onto the ferry, take the bridge at Clarks Ferry (US 22/322) or stay on 11/15 instead. Winter brings occasional snow and black ice from December through February, so check PennDOT's 511PA road conditions before you head out. Deer are active at dawn and dusk, so reduce speed in low light.
511pa.com/What hookups and amenities will I find at Liverpool-area campgrounds?
You'll find a great range. Ferryboat Campsites in Liverpool offers full hookups (30/50-amp electric, water, sewer) on many sites, along with potable water stations and a dump station for guests. Waterside Campground includes electric and water hookups with shower houses and a dump station. Pennsylvania state parks like Little Buffalo provide modern restrooms with flush toilets and warm showers, with select full-hookup sites at certain campgrounds. Nearly every campground in Perry and Snyder counties has a dump station and potable water fill, and propane refills are easy at Liverpool's nearby hardware and gas suppliers on Route 15. Confirm hookups when booking your site, and you're golden.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/what-to-do/stay-overnight/rv-and-tent-campsites.htmlWhat's inside the RVs available in Liverpool, PA?
Comfort comes standard. Most motorhome rental Liverpool options include a queen or king bed, convertible dinette or bunks (sleeping 4 to 8 total), a full kitchen with fridge, microwave, stove and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning, furnace heat, and seatbelts for everyone riding. Many rigs also come with a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and a generator for boondocking. WiFi is hit or miss in rural Perry County, so don't count on streaming at Ferryboat Campsites, bring a cellular hotspot for reliable signal. Each listing on RVezy shows exact specs and photos, so you can match the RV to your family's needs before you book.
fcc.gov/consumers/guides/mobile-wireless-servicesWhat add-ons and mileage policies should I expect when I rent an RV in Liverpool, PA?
Popular add-ons in the Liverpool area include kitchen kits (around $30 to $50), bedding packages ($25 to $40 per bed), camp chairs, outdoor grills, generator use, and bike racks, all selected directly on the RVezy listing. Many Liverpool hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with extra miles typically billed at $0.30 to $0.50 each. Some hosts offer unlimited mileage packages, just filter for that option. Pickup usually happens at the host's location, but delivery to Ferryboat Campsites or your driveway is widely available for a fee based on distance. Message the host before booking to confirm pickup windows and add-ons.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Liverpool,PennsylvaniaHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RVezy rental in Liverpool, PA?
Payment is straightforward and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit card when you book, so there is never cash changing hands with the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) and released after your trip ends, assuming the rig is returned in the condition it left. To avoid issues, walk through the RV with the host at pickup and dropoff, take timestamped photos of the interior, exterior, mileage, and fuel level, and document any pre-existing scratches on the orientation checklist.
