Campgrounds and RV parks near Mifflin, PA

Mifflin sits along the Juniata River in Juniata County, in the rolling ridge-and-valley terrain of central Pennsylvania. The area is rural and lightly populated, with the Juniata River as its recreational backbone and Rothrock State Forest, State Game Lands, and several state parks within an easy drive. Mifflintown, the neighboring borough, is the closest town for groceries, fuel, and dining. RV travelers have a mix of options within a short drive. Riverfront private campgrounds cluster along the Juniata between Mifflintown and Lewistown, and a small state-park campground sits roughly forty-five minutes south at Little Buffalo State Park in Perry County. Private grounds tend to include seasonal residents alongside short-term sites, so booking a river-facing spot in advance is common. The region is known for smallmouth bass fishing, small-town Amish and Mennonite communities, and quiet backroads well suited to a slower trip. Route 322 is the main four-lane corridor and connects the valley east to Harrisburg and west to State College.

State-park sites use the Pennsylvania DCNR reservation system through ReserveAmerica. Reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance and up to noon of the day of arrival. That eleven-month window matters for popular summer weekends at Little Buffalo State Park, where the small campground books out quickly. Private campgrounds handle their own reservations directly. Buttonwood Campground, Waterside Campground and RV Park, Paradise Stream Family Campground, and Hartman Center Campground each take bookings through their own websites or by phone. Reserve river-facing or full-hookup sites early for holiday weekends, and confirm big-rig length limits before arrival.
