Campgrounds and RV parks near Mifflintown, PA

Mifflintown sits in the Juniata River Valley of central Pennsylvania, roughly midway between Harrisburg and State College. The town serves as the seat of Juniata County, and the surrounding area is defined by the Juniata River, ridge-and-valley Appalachian terrain, and farmland. Most campgrounds within a short drive sit along the river or on tributary streams, which shapes the local activity mix around paddling, tubing, and fishing. RV travelers have a range of options close to town. Buttonwood Campground occupies riverfront land east of Mifflintown with full-hookup sites and a heavy family-activity program. Waterside Campground and RV Park sits along the Juniata corridor near Lewistown and rounds out the private-park options in the immediate area. For a public-land option, Little Buffalo State Park lies about a 40-minute drive south near Newport and offers a modern DCNR campground on Holman Lake. Paradise Stream Family Campground is farther south in Loysville, and Hartman Center Campground sits north near Milroy with access to Rothrock State Forest.

Pennsylvania state park sites, including Little Buffalo State Park, are booked through the DCNR reservation system on ReserveAmerica or by phone at 888-PA-PARKS. Reservations open up to 11 months in advance, release at noon Eastern, and must be made at least three days before arrival. Sites can fill quickly for summer weekends, so booking early is important. Private campgrounds handle their own reservations. Buttonwood Campground, Waterside Campground and RV Park, Paradise Stream Family Campground, and Hartman Center Campground all take bookings directly through their websites or by phone. Cancellation windows vary by property, so review terms before paying. For peak dates, plan on booking two to six months out for state park sites and popular private parks. Midweek and shoulder-season stays are often bookable much closer to arrival.
