Campgrounds near Misericordia University
Misericordia University sits in Dallas, Pennsylvania, in Luzerne County, roughly ten miles from Wilkes-Barre and within a short drive of the Pocono Mountains and the Susquehanna River corridor. The surrounding terrain is wooded ridge-and-valley country, giving RV renters a mix of state park and private campground options within thirty minutes of campus.
The closest public option is Frances Slocum State Park, which consists of 1,035 acres in northeastern Pennsylvania's Luzerne County and centers on a horseshoe-shaped, 165-acre lake popular for boating and fishing. Private options south along the Susquehanna include Council Cup Campground and Moyers Grove Campground near Wapwallopen, while Slumber Valley Campground and Highland Campgrounds sit to the north near Meshoppen and Dalton.
Most sites in the area cater to families, with a mix of electric hookups, tent loops, and cabin or trailer rentals. RV renters should expect wooded, sloped terrain typical of the Endless Mountains, with a season that runs heaviest from late spring through mid-fall.
Things to do near Misericordia University
Frances Slocum State Park is the anchor for day-use recreation. Hiking and mountain biking trails and the large day use area attract visitors to picnic and explore the forests, and Frances Slocum Lake is open to fishing and boating, though a valid Pennsylvania fishing license is required for anglers aged 16 and older. Swimming in the lake is not permitted, but the park pool operates in summer.
Along the Susquehanna, Council Cup Campground features nature trails, Susquehanna River overlooks, and a 25-foot waterfall, and families can play volleyball, horseshoes, badminton, or mini golf. Moyers Grove Campground offers an in-ground swimming pool, catch and release fishing in on-site ponds and a stream, and courts for basketball, beach volleyball, and horseshoes. Ricketts Glen State Park and the Pocono Mountains are within reasonable driving distance for waterfall hikes and day trips.

At Frances Slocum State Park, the 100-site campground is available from mid-April to mid-October, and Highland Campgrounds is open from mid-April through the end of October. Council Cup Campground operates as a seasonal campground from April through November, so early spring and late-November trips will need careful planning.
Summer is the peak booking window across northeastern Pennsylvania. Weekend sites at popular parks fill quickly, and lakefront and waterfall-adjacent sites are the first to disappear. Frances Slocum in particular fills quickly on summer weekends, and the on-site pool draws campers on hot afternoons.
Fall is the second high-demand window. October brings peak foliage across the Pocono and Endless Mountains regions, weekend availability tightens well in advance, and cooler nights make this a good time for RVers who prefer milder daytime hiking weather. Winter camping in this immediate area is limited: most private parks close, and the state park campground is shut.
How to book near Misericordia University
Reservation systems differ between state and private campgrounds. Most campsites in Pennsylvania state parks can be reserved 11 months in advance to noon of the day of arrival, and campers without a reservation arriving after noon should check near the campground entrance for instructions. For Frances Slocum, book online through the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation portal or call toll-free 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757).
Private campgrounds handle bookings directly. Council Cup Campground, Moyers Grove Campground, Highland Campgrounds, and Slumber Valley Campground each take reservations by phone or through their own websites, and policies on deposits, payment methods, and holiday-weekend minimums vary by property. Highland Campgrounds, for example, opens its reservation calendar on January 1 each year.
Book holiday weekends and October foliage dates well in advance. Cancellations do occur, so mid-week arrivals are often easier to secure than Friday and Saturday nights.
What to expect near Misericordia University

Full water and sewer hookups at the state park are limited to the campground host site.
Private parks in the area offer more hookup options. Moyers Grove has full hookup campsites with 20, 30, and 50 amp electric, and Council Cup offers pull-through RV campsites with electric, water, and sewer available. Moyers Grove accommodates RVs up to about 40 feet, so larger rigs should confirm site length before booking.
