Campgrounds near Mount Union, Pennsylvania
Mount Union sits along the Juniata River in Huntingdon County, central Pennsylvania, within easy reach of Raystown Lake, the largest lake located entirely within Pennsylvania. The 8,300-acre reservoir is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and stretches roughly 27 miles through forested ridges, giving RV travelers a base for lake recreation, mountain biking, and small-town day trips.
Private parks in the area cover a range of styles. RIVERBANK CAMPGROUND AND COTTAGE RENTAL provides river-adjacent sites close to town, while Lake Raystown Family Camping Resort offers RV, tent, and cabin camping near the water. Woodland Camping Resort, Pleasant Hills Campground, and Wildwood RV Resort round out the nearby options with hookup sites and family-oriented amenities.
The town of Huntingdon, roughly 15 miles up US 22, functions as the regional service hub with grocery stores, restaurants, and outfitters. Trough Creek State Park, Greenwood Furnace State Park, and Whipple Dam State Park all lie within a short drive and add public-land camping and day-use options to the mix.
Things to do near Mount Union
Raystown Lake anchors most trip plans. The lake supports boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, and mountain biking, and boat, pontoon, and rental options are available at Seven Points Marina. Anglers target striped bass, smallmouth bass, walleye, and multiple trout species.
The Allegrippis Trails System, leased from the Army Corps of Engineers and operated by the Friends of Raystown Lake, delivers 36 miles of purpose-built singletrack across stacked loops rated easiest, moderate, and most difficult. The network is open year-round for mountain biking, hiking, trail running, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.
Off the water, Lincoln Caverns and Whisper Rocks offers guided cave tours, and Trough Creek State Park features Balanced Rock and Rainbow Falls. Downtown Huntingdon adds cafes, shops, and seasonal farmers markets.

Central Pennsylvania has a humid continental climate with warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Peak camping demand runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when lake beaches, marinas, and campground pools are in full operation and weekend availability tightens. Weekday reservations tend to hold longer, and popular waterfront sites at the federal campgrounds book out well in advance during the season.
Spring brings variable weather and higher precipitation, with May among the wettest months. Trails can be muddy after storms, but this is a good window for fishing and quieter campgrounds. Fall delivers cool nights, lower humidity, and hardwood color across the ridges, and it remains popular with mountain bikers and anglers.
Winter is quiet. Many private campgrounds close or reduce services in the colder months, and the federal campgrounds at Raystown are seasonal, typically running from April through late October, though the Allegrippis Trails remain open for winter uses.

Shawn and Melinda made it easy to hold a memorable Penn State tailgate, even for someone like me who is new to RV rental. The Beaver Stadium RV lot didn’t have RV hookups so they made sure we had water and extra gas for the generator. They thought if every detail. The RV was super clean and well-stocked. They had excellent communication and were so friendly and helpful. I would 100% rent from them again.

This was my first time renting an RV and it was the smoothest process! The hosts were in contact with me before delivery so I knew exactly when they would arrive. They were so friendly and set up the entire camper and gave me a tour. We had an awesome experience, thank you!

What an incredible first experience! Tony is an outstanding host. He thoroughly went over the RV with me and communication was on point. The value matched the cost. The RV was so fun to drive. It was super clean, and very comfortable. We will be renting again for sure!

This was a great RV for our camping trip to see fall foliage. It slept our group of 3 adults and 2 children very comfortably (particularly with a slider that allowed for a soft and full queen bed), had space to socialize, play games, and warm up from the outside. The stove and oven cooked beautifully and had enough heat to power through a large meal; the water could be adjusted to very hot, which was fantastic. The bathroom was roomy enough for a shower and sink. The fridge/freezer had plenty of space and kept everything nice and cold. I can’t say enough good things about the heat, it was powerful and immediate; we ended up being in some unexpectedly frosty and windy weather but never even noticed inside. Everyone slept like babies! There is storage space in a large compartment on the outside and multiple small cabinets for things inside. The power and water hook-up is a breeze, the dumping the same. You have large windows and plenty of inside lighting. As the driver, I appreciated how large my windshield viewing area was and it handled well. The only small flaw was the cracking and flaking of the seat and armrest upholstery but that was strictly cosmetic and had no negative impact on our enjoyment. Tony was a pleasure to deal with and very responsive. A positive experience all the way around!

How to book campgrounds near Mount Union
Federal campgrounds at Raystown Lake, including Seven Points and Susquehannock, are booked through Recreation.gov. Reservations typically open several months in advance, and peak-season weekends fill quickly, so booking as early as possible is recommended. Seven Points generally operates from April through late October.
Private parks handle their own reservations. Lake Raystown Family Camping Resort accepts bookings online or by phone, and RIVERBANK CAMPGROUND AND COTTAGE RENTAL, Woodland Camping Resort, Pleasant Hills Campground, and Wildwood RV Resort each manage inquiries directly through their own websites or offices.
For RV travelers, confirm site length, hookup type, and whether a dump station is on site before committing. Seven Points, for example, offers electric hookups at most sites but no individual water connections; campers fill tanks at spigots or at the dump station.
What to expect on the ground
The terrain around Mount Union is ridge-and-valley country, so expect winding two-lane roads, wooded shorelines, and campgrounds tucked into hillsides rather than open plains. Most of the land around Raystown Lake is Army Corps property and undeveloped, which limits residential build-up along the shoreline and keeps views forested.
Cell service is inconsistent in the hollows and along back roads, so downloading maps and reservation confirmations before arriving is wise. Grocery stops and fuel are easiest in Huntingdon or Mount Union; on-lake stores at Seven Points cover essentials but have limited selection.
Bring layers even in summer, as evenings cool quickly near the water, and expect bugs in spring and early summer. Bear activity is possible in the surrounding forests, so food should be stored inside the RV overnight.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Mount%20Union%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow does payment and the security deposit work for a Mount Union RV rental?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit card during booking, never directly to the host in cash. Most hosts also require a refundable security deposit, typically between $500 and $1,500 depending on the RV's value, which is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after the trip once the RV is returned in good condition. To avoid any deposit issues, take dated photos and a quick video at pickup and drop-off, return the RV with the same fuel and propane level, and empty the waste tanks at a dump station such as the one at Seven Points Campground. Clean, on-time returns almost always mean a full refund within a few days.
