Camping near Roulette, Pennsylvania
Roulette sits along the Allegheny River in Potter County, in the heart of the Pennsylvania Wilds region. The village is a small crossroads on US Route 6 between Port Allegany and Coudersport, and it puts RV travelers within easy reach of large blocks of state forest, trout streams, and dark-sky viewing areas.
Campground options within a short drive lean toward small, forested settings rather than resort parks. Allegheny River Campground offers riverside sites close to town, while Sizerville State Park, a 386-acre park nearly surrounded by Elk State Forest, is a good base for exploring nearby public lands. Majestic Kamp and Lost Trails adds a large, primitive ATV-oriented property in the Allegheny National Forest region, Austin Campground provides another private option, and Patterson State Park offers a rustic, first-come, first-served alternative in Susquehannock State Forest.
Roads in and around Roulette are two-lane and winding through hardwood ridges, so larger rigs should plan routes carefully. Cell service is unpredictable across this part of Pennsylvania, and service can drop well before reaching the state parks, so download maps and confirmations before arrival.
Things to do around Roulette
The Allegheny River runs through town and supports paddling, fly fishing for trout and smallmouth bass, and easy float trips. Public lands ring the area, with hiking, mountain biking, and hunting in Susquehannock and Elk State Forests, and elk viewing to the south near Benezette in the Pennsylvania Wilds elk range.
Potter County is marketed as God's Country and includes the Cherry Springs State Park dark-sky area, one of the darkest skies on the East Coast for stargazing. Families staying at Sizerville State Park can use the free concrete swimming pool from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, walk five miles of loop trails, and attend programs at the outdoor amphitheater. The wider region also offers cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and hunting, giving RV travelers activities across all four seasons.

The Roulette area has a four-season climate with a distinct camping window. Most public and private campgrounds run from mid-spring through late fall. Sizerville State Park's campground opens on the second Friday in April and closes in mid-December, while Patterson State Park's rustic sites open in April and close in late October.
Spring brings high, cold water in the Allegheny River, muddy trails, and black-fly activity in May and June. Summer is the peak booking window, with warm days, cool nights, and heavier weekend demand at riverside private parks. Holiday weekends and the July and August stretch fill first, and popular electric sites can book months out.
Fall foliage typically peaks from late September into mid-October and draws leaf-peepers on Route 6, which is a designated scenic drive. Rifle deer season in late November brings hunters into the state forests and lodging near trailheads. Winter camping is limited to hardier travelers, and snowmobiling is a major regional activity when snowpack allows, with Sizerville-area trails averaging roughly 60 to 70 inches of snow per year.
How to book
Sizerville State Park is booked through the Pennsylvania state parks reservation system. Make online reservations for day use and overnight facilities or call toll-free 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), from 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday to Saturday. Reservations can be made for today and up to 11 months in advance. Patterson State Park is different: it is first-come, first-served with an honor-system registration kiosk on site, and does not take advance reservations.
Private options such as Allegheny River Campground, Majestic Kamp and Lost Trails, and Austin Campground book directly through the campground by phone or website. Summer weekends, fall foliage weekends, and any dates overlapping hunting seasons should be reserved as early as possible.
What to expect on site
Expect small, forested campgrounds rather than large resort parks. At Sizerville, the campground has around 23 sites with a mix of electric and non-electric options, flush toilets, showers, a sanitary dump station, ADA accessible facilities, and a play area near the outdoor amphitheater. Patterson is fully rustic, with a small loop of primitive sites, a manual water pump, and vault toilets, and no electric hookups or showers.
Majestic Kamp and Lost Trails offers primitive wilderness RV and tent camping with no electric or water hookups. Sites across the area generally suit small to mid-size RVs; check length limits before booking a large fifth wheel. Bring drinking water for primitive stops, plan for limited cell coverage, and pack layers for cool mountain nights even in summer.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan smart and your fuel budget stays reasonable. Most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (mpg), travel trailers tow at 10 to 14 mpg depending on the truck, and campervans often hit 16 to 20 mpg. Roulette sits in a region where regular unleaded typically runs slightly above the Pennsylvania state average, with the nearest reliable fuel stops in Port Allegany (about 8 miles west) and Coudersport (about 9 miles east) on Route 6. For a 300-mile loop in a Class C, budget around $100 to $140 in fuel. Pro tip: top off in Coudersport before heading into the state forest, as gas stations get sparse fast.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Roulette?
Book early and your trip falls into place. Pennsylvania state parks like Cherry Springs, Lyman Run, Ole Bull, Sizerville, and Sinnemahoning take reservations up to 11 months in advance through the official Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system, and Cherry Springs new-moon weekends fill 9 to 11 months out. Private parks like Allegheny River Campground in Roulette take direct bookings and tend to fill 2 to 3 months ahead for summer weekends and fall-foliage weekends. Pro tip: if you're flexible, Sunday-through-Thursday stays are easy to grab last-minute and you'll have the dark skies practically to yourself.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Reservations/Pages/default.aspxWhat are the local driving conditions like around Roulette?
Driving around Roulette is refreshingly mellow compared to most RV destinations. US Route 6, the main artery, is a designated scenic byway with wide lanes, gentle climbs over the Allegheny Plateau, and very light traffic. Side roads into state forest land can be narrow, gravelly, and twisty, so stick to paved routes if it's your first RV. Watch for white-tailed deer at dawn and dusk (Potter County has one of the densest deer populations in the state) and elk near Benezette and Sinnemahoning. Winter brings real snow and ice from December through March. Pro tip: download offline maps in Coudersport because cell service drops fast once you leave town.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhat hookups, dump stations, and water fills can I expect at Roulette campgrounds?
You'll find solid infrastructure at the campgrounds near Roulette. Allegheny River Campground offers 15/20/30/50 amp electric, water, full hookups on 16 sites, an on-site dump station, and propane service. State parks like Lyman Run, Ole Bull, and Sizerville generally offer electric hookups (no sewer at the site) plus shared potable water fills and a centralized dump station near the park entrance. The dump station at Allegheny River Campground is also available to non-registered campers for a small fee in season. Pro tip: fill your fresh water tank before leaving the campground because rural fill points along Route 6 are limited, and bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose just in case.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/WhatToDo/Camping/Pages/default.aspxWhat amenities come standard in a Roulette RV rental?

Many hosts include linens, kitchen kits, outdoor chairs, and a starter propane tank. Wi-Fi is hit or miss in Potter County regardless of the RV, so download entertainment and offline maps in advance. Check the listing's amenity list and message the host to confirm anything specific to your family.
