Campgrounds near Tipton, Pennsylvania
Tipton sits in Antis Township in Blair County, along the Little Juniata River valley between the Allegheny Front and Bald Eagle Ridge. The village is best known as the home of DelGrosso's Amusement Park, and it works well as a base for RV travelers exploring central Pennsylvania's rail heritage, state parks, and lake country. Altoona lies just to the south, with Horseshoe Curve and the Railroaders Memorial Museum within a short drive.
RV options in the immediate area are a mix of small private campgrounds and larger destination resorts. Glendale Valley Campground, Wrights Orchard Station Campground, Weimers RV 764 Campground / Scott$ Arcade, and Pleasant Hills Campground serve travelers who want to stay close to Tipton itself. For a bigger footprint with lake access, Lake Raystown Family Camping Resort is roughly an hour southeast.
Beyond the private parks, public campgrounds at Prince Gallitzin State Park on Glendale Lake and Canoe Creek State Park east of Altoona expand the choices for renters who want state-park amenities and shoreline recreation.
Things to do around Tipton
Family attractions cluster tightly around Tipton. DelGrosso's Amusement Park is in town, and the Boilermaker Water Park sits next door. A short drive south reaches Horseshoe Curve National Historic Landmark, with its trackside viewing area and visitor center, plus the Railroaders Memorial Museum in downtown Altoona.
For outdoor days, Glendale Lake at Prince Gallitzin State Park offers boating, a swim beach at Muskrat Beach, and miles of hiking trails. Canoe Creek State Park has fishing, a lake beach, and historic limestone kilns to explore. The Little Juniata River is a well-known wild trout fishery, and the Lower Trail rail-trail follows the river for miles.
Day trips push farther: Raystown Lake for boating and disc golf at Seven Points, and State College with Penn State roughly 45 minutes north.

Central Pennsylvania has four distinct seasons, and campground calendars follow them closely. Most private and state-park campgrounds in the Tipton area run a main season from around mid-April through late October, then close for winter. Prince Gallitzin State Park's campground follows this mid-April to late-October pattern.
Summer is peak season for the region, running roughly Memorial Day through Labor Day. Weekends fill quickly at Lake Raystown Family Camping Resort and at Prince Gallitzin, and holiday weekends often carry minimum-stay requirements. DelGrosso's Amusement Park operates seasonally through the warm months, which drives extra demand on nearby RV parks.
Spring brings trout stocking on the Little Juniata and cool, wet weather. Fall is popular for foliage on the Allegheny ridges, with color typically peaking in mid-October. Winter camping options are limited: most parks shut off water lines by early November, and any off-season stays are typically dry camping only.

Shawn and Melinda made it easy to hold a memorable Penn State tailgate, even for someone like me who is new to RV rental. The Beaver Stadium RV lot didn’t have RV hookups so they made sure we had water and extra gas for the generator. They thought if every detail. The RV was super clean and well-stocked. They had excellent communication and were so friendly and helpful. I would 100% rent from them again.

This was my first time renting an RV and it was the smoothest process! The hosts were in contact with me before delivery so I knew exactly when they would arrive. They were so friendly and set up the entire camper and gave me a tour. We had an awesome experience, thank you!

What an incredible first experience! Tony is an outstanding host. He thoroughly went over the RV with me and communication was on point. The value matched the cost. The RV was so fun to drive. It was super clean, and very comfortable. We will be renting again for sure!

This was a great RV for our camping trip to see fall foliage. It slept our group of 3 adults and 2 children very comfortably (particularly with a slider that allowed for a soft and full queen bed), had space to socialize, play games, and warm up from the outside. The stove and oven cooked beautifully and had enough heat to power through a large meal; the water could be adjusted to very hot, which was fantastic. The bathroom was roomy enough for a shower and sink. The fridge/freezer had plenty of space and kept everything nice and cold. I can’t say enough good things about the heat, it was powerful and immediate; we ended up being in some unexpectedly frosty and windy weather but never even noticed inside. Everyone slept like babies! There is storage space in a large compartment on the outside and multiple small cabinets for things inside. The power and water hook-up is a breeze, the dumping the same. You have large windows and plenty of inside lighting. As the driver, I appreciated how large my windshield viewing area was and it handled well. The only small flaw was the cracking and flaking of the seat and armrest upholstery but that was strictly cosmetic and had no negative impact on our enjoyment. Tony was a pleasure to deal with and very responsive. A positive experience all the way around!

Booking and reservations
Reservation windows vary by operator. Pennsylvania state parks, including Prince Gallitzin and Canoe Creek, take bookings through the state ReserveAmerica portal or by calling 888-PA-PARKS. Campsites can be reserved up to 12 months in advance, and cabins and cottages require at least three days' notice with an 11-month window.
Raystown Lake's federal campgrounds, such as Seven Points, are booked through Recreation.gov, while Lake Raystown Family Camping Resort handles its own bookings direct. Smaller local parks near Tipton, including Glendale Valley Campground, Wrights Orchard Station Campground, Weimers RV 764 Campground / Scott$ Arcade, and Pleasant Hills Campground, typically take reservations by phone or through their own websites.
For summer weekends and any stay tied to a DelGrosso's visit, book several months out.
What to expect on the ground
Sites near Tipton range from full-hookup pull-throughs at private resorts to electric-only or primitive loops at the state parks. Prince Gallitzin offers a mix of nonelectric, modern electric, and full-hookup sites, plus flush restrooms, showers, a dump station, and modern cabins and cottages. Larger private resorts in the region typically provide 30 and 50 amp service with water and Wi-Fi at many sites.
Cell coverage is generally reliable near Tipton and Altoona but weakens in the ridges around Glendale Lake and Raystown. Firewood should be sourced locally to comply with spotted lanternfly quarantine rules, and bringing firewood into Pennsylvania is prohibited.
Roads into the smaller campgrounds can be narrow and winding, so large fifth wheels and Class A rigs should confirm access and turning space when booking.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Tipton, PA
How much does an RV rental in Tipton, PA typically cost?
An RV rental in Tipton, PA is one of the more affordable ways to explore central Pennsylvania. On RVezy, travel trailers near Tipton typically run $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes range from $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A motorhomes average $225 to $350 per night. Because hosts set their own pricing, you can find a cheap RV rental Tipton option by booking midweek or in the shoulder seasons (late April to mid-June, or September to early October). Rolling into town for the DelGrosso's Park summer season pushes weekend prices higher, so locking in your dates a few months ahead is the smart move.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Tipton%2C%20PennsylvaniaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Tipton, PA?
Great news for first-timers: a regular Pennsylvania Class C driver's license (the everyday license most people already have) is all you need for nearly every RV rental in Tipton, PA. Pennsylvania only requires a non-commercial Class B license for single motorhomes rated over 26,000 pounds, and the vast majority of Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, and travel trailers on RVezy fall well under that weight. To rent on RVezy, you need to be 25 or older with a valid driver's license, and ID verification is handled right through the platform. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home auto association along with your home-country license.
dmv.pa.gov/Driver-Services/Driver-Licensing/Pages/Non-Commercial-Drivers-License.aspxIs RV rental insurance and roadside assistance included?
Yes, and that's one of the best parts of booking through RVezy. Every RV rental in Tipton, PA comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built right into your booking, so you're not scrambling to piece together coverage on your own. The protection plan covers most damages to the vehicle, and you choose your coverage level at checkout based on how much peace of mind you want. It provides significant financial protection so you can focus on hiking Canoe Creek State Park or riding the carousel at DelGrosso's Park instead of worrying about the what-ifs.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat happens if I need to cancel my Tipton RV rental?
You're protected. RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy for every booking, so you get the same fair, transparent terms no matter which Tipton RV you choose. Refund amounts depend on how far ahead of your trip you cancel and whether anything unexpected gets in the way. The full details are available in the RVezy Help Center, and your booking confirmation will reflect the policy that applies. Bottom line: reserving your Tipton, PA RV trip is genuinely low-risk, so you can lock in those summer dates with confidence.

pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/prince-gallitzin-state-park.htmlWhen is the best time to take an RV trip from Tipton, PA?
Tipton sits in the Allegheny foothills, and the sweet spot is mid-May through mid-October. Late May and June bring lush green mountains and highs in the 70s and low 80s. July and August are warm and humid (highs in the mid-80s), perfect for Laguna Splash Water Park at DelGrosso's. September and especially the first three weeks of October are the local secret: crisp 60-to-70-degree days, fewer crowds, and stunning fall foliage across the Alleghenies. Winters in central PA can drop into the teens with snow, so if you're booking a winter Tipton RV trip, ask your host about a four-season rig with heated tanks and full shore power.
weather.gov/ctp/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay around Tipton?
You've got this, and Tipton is a friendly place to learn. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering hookups, water systems, slides, and driving tips, so you're never figuring it out alone. The roads around Tipton (US Route 220, I-99, and PA Route 865) are wide, well-maintained, and far less stressful than big-city driving. First time renting an RV? Consider a Class C motorhome or a campervan rental Tipton style for easier handling. Take an empty parking lot at Logan Valley Mall in Altoona for 20 minutes of practice with turns and backing up before heading to the campground.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I break down during my Tipton RV trip?
You're never stranded. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so if you get a flat on US-220 or have a battery issue at Prince Gallitzin State Park, one phone call gets help on the way. Your host is also just a message away through the RVezy app, and they know their RV inside and out, so quirks like a tricky slide-out switch usually get solved in minutes. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip too. Save the roadside number in your phone contacts before you pull out of the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my RV rental from Tipton across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals, so a big RV road trip from Tipton is totally doable. Popular cross-state runs include Niagara Falls (about 230 miles north), Washington D.C. (about 180 miles south), the Outer Banks of North Carolina (about 460 miles southeast), and New York's Finger Lakes (about 220 miles north). Crossing into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and the protection plan, so message the host directly before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Share your route with your host up front to keep everything smooth.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Tipton RV trip?
Budgeting for fuel is straightforward. Most Class C motorhomes near Tipton get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class B campervans average 15 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Pennsylvania gas prices typically hover around $3.30 to $3.80 per gallon, with diesel slightly higher. For a 300-mile round trip from Tipton to Raystown Lake and back in a Class C, plan on roughly $100 to $130 in fuel. Sheetz and GetGo stations across Blair County tend to have competitive prices compared to highway plazas on I-99, and many have pull-through pumps that fit larger rigs comfortably.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Tipton?
Book early and you'll have your pick of the best sites. For Pennsylvania state parks near Tipton, like Prince Gallitzin, Canoe Creek, and Bald Eagle, reservations open up to 11 months in advance through the official PA state parks reservation system. Summer weekends and fall-foliage weekends in October fill the fastest, so aim for at least three to four months ahead. Private RV parks around Blair County typically need one to two months of lead time in peak season. Midweek arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) are far easier to snag and often quieter for a relaxed motorhome rental Tipton getaway.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like in and around Tipton, PA?
Driving around Tipton is genuinely pleasant for RVs. The main routes (I-99, US-220, and US-22) are wide four-lane corridors with gentle grades through the Allegheny foothills. Mountain stretches like the climb up Allegheny Front toward Cresson and the curves on PA Route 36 toward Prince Gallitzin call for slower speeds in a big rig, but nothing extreme. Watch for occasional low-clearance railroad bridges in rural Blair County by using your GPS in truck/RV mode. Winter can bring snow and ice from December through March. Stick to main highways like US-220 and I-99 instead of narrow rural shortcuts when piloting a larger rig.
511pa.com/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Tipton?
Pennsylvania campgrounds near Tipton are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. Prince Gallitzin State Park offers electric hookup sites (with some 50-amp options), modern shower houses, a sanitary dump station, camp store, and coin laundry. Canoe Creek and Bald Eagle State Parks have electric hookups, potable water fill stations, dump stations, and clean bathhouses. Private RV parks around Blair County often add full hookups, cable TV, pools, and playgrounds. If your site doesn't have sewer, the dump station at Prince Gallitzin is available for registered campers and located conveniently near the main campground area.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/prince-gallitzin-state-park.htmlWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Tipton, PA?
You'll feel right at home. Most RVs on RVezy near Tipton come fully equipped with comfortable beds (sleeping 2 to 8 depending on size), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave and cookware, a bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control with both air conditioning and furnace, dining seating with proper seatbelts for travel, and outdoor add-ons like awnings and camp chairs. Many rentals also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, and onboard generator for off-grid stays. Each listing details exactly what's included, and you can filter by sleeps count or RV type. Ask your host about a starter kit with linens, kitchenware, and a propane fill so you can roll straight to DelGrosso's Park.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Tipton%2C%20PennsylvaniaWhat add-ons and pickup options should I look for when I rent an RV in Tipton?
Hosts make customizing easy. When you rent an RV in Tipton, PA, popular add-ons include linen and kitchen kits ($35 to $75), generator use ($15 to $30 per day), bike racks, outdoor grills, camp chairs, propane fills, and pet cleaning fees if you're bringing a dog. Pickup is usually at the host's home in Tipton, Bellwood, Tyrone, or Altoona, and delivery to local campgrounds is often available for a flat fee plus mileage. Daily mileage allowances vary by listing (commonly 100 to 150 miles per day), with extras priced per mile. Filter for Instant Book if you want to lock in your dates without waiting for host approval.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Tipton%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure, all handled through the RVezy platform, never directly with the host. You'll pay for your Tipton RV rental online with a credit or debit card when you book, and a refundable security deposit (separate from your booking payment) is held and released after your trip assuming there is no damage. To avoid deposit issues, do a quick walkthrough video with your host at pickup and drop-off, return the RV following the host's fuel and waste tank instructions, and stick to the mileage and generator-hour policies in your listing. Keep all communication in the RVezy app so everything is documented in one place.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I take a Tipton RV rental out in winter?
Yes, winter RV trips from Tipton are absolutely possible. Snow blankets the Allegheny Mountains from December through March, opening up access to nearby skiing at Blue Knob All Seasons Resort and Tussey Mountain, plus cozy fireside nights at Prince Gallitzin State Park (open year-round, with cabins bookable in winter). The key is choosing an RV built for the cold. On RVezy, message hosts to confirm features like heated holding tanks, an enclosed underbelly, a strong propane furnace, and the ability to plug into 30/50-amp shore power. Book a campground with full hookups in winter so your fresh water line stays heated and flowing.
