Campgrounds near Bandera, Texas
Bandera sits on the Medina River in the western Texas Hill Country, about an hour northwest of San Antonio. The town brands itself the Cowboy Capital of the World, and most RV parks in the area cluster along the river or on nearby ranch land, giving renters easy access to swimming holes, live music dance halls on Main Street, and the rolling cedar-and-oak hills that define this stretch of Bandera County.
River-adjacent options include Bandera Pioneer RV River Resort, Bandera Star Riverfront Camping & RV Resort, and Riverside RV Park, all set up for full hookups within a short drive of downtown. Skyline Ranch RV Park sits on higher ground with hill views, while 2E Twin Elm Guest Ranch pairs sites with working-ranch activities.
Most renters use Bandera as a base for day trips to Hill Country State Natural Area, Lost Maples State Natural Area, Medina Lake, and the wineries and breweries along the Highway 16 corridor toward Kerrville and Fredericksburg.
Things to do around Bandera
The Medina River is the main draw in warm months. Tubing, kayaking, and swimming are easy to arrange from riverfront parks such as Bandera Pioneer RV River Resort and Bandera Star Riverfront Camping & RV Resort, and public access points exist in and around town.
Hill Country State Natural Area, about ten miles southwest, offers roughly 40 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Lost Maples State Natural Area near Vanderpool is the region's fall-foliage destination. Guest ranches around Bandera, including 2E Twin Elm Guest Ranch, run trail rides and cowboy breakfasts open to outside guests.
In town, the Frontier Times Museum, honky-tonks like Arkey Blue's Silver Dollar and the 11th Street Cowboy Bar, and weekend rodeos give kids and adults something to do after dark.

Spring, from March through May, is the most popular window. Wildflowers bloom across the hills, the river runs cool, and temperatures are comfortable for hiking and riding. May is also the wettest month of the year, and thunderstorms can be heavy, so renters should watch flash-flood alerts on low-water crossings along the Medina and its tributaries.
Summer is hot, with afternoon highs regularly in the mid-90s and river tubing at its peak. Weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day book out weeks in advance at riverfront parks. Fall brings cooler nights, big-sky weather, and the maple color at Lost Maples, which typically peaks late October into mid-November and drives heavy weekend traffic to that park.
Winter is mild but variable. Daytime highs often reach the 60s, though cold fronts can push overnight lows near freezing. Most Bandera RV parks stay open year-round, and winter is a solid off-season option for renters who want quieter sites and easier reservations.

Kristen was a fantastic host. We arrived to everything set up and hooked up. The RV was clean and clean linens and towels were on the beds. The outdoor kitchen was perfect for breakfast and the outside fridge was used constantly. Communication was amazing. We had a flight cancelled and Kristen made it work so we didn't miss a thing.

Great small RV with plenty of amenities. Karina was a great host and worked with us on pick up and drop off times.
CODY D. - Jun 2026
Such an awesome experience. We spent a few days at Colorado Bend State Park and the trailer was perfect. There were not any water/electrical hookups at our campsite, but we were able to fill the RV with potable water, and run the necessary items (lights, water pump, heater) on battery/generator. Such an awesome trip and this travel trailer made the experience much more enjoyable! Karina and Ivan were hospitable AND ensured that we had everything we needed for our trip. 10/10 recommend.

How to book campgrounds near Bandera
Private RV parks around Bandera, including Bandera Pioneer RV River Resort, Bandera Star Riverfront Camping & RV Resort, Riverside RV Park, Skyline Ranch RV Park, and 2E Twin Elm Guest Ranch, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Riverfront sites and pull-throughs sell out first, especially for holiday weekends and rodeo dates.
Texas state park sites at Hill Country State Natural Area and Lost Maples State Natural Area are booked through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department reservation system, which opens overnight bookings up to five months in advance at 8 a.m. Central. Lost Maples fills quickly for October and November foliage weekends, so renters should target the release date for those dates.
Check length and hookup limits before booking; some ranch and river sites cap rigs around 35 feet.
What to expect on-site
Expect full or partial hookups at the main Bandera RV parks, with 30- and 50-amp service common. Cell coverage in town is reliable on major carriers but drops off quickly in the surrounding canyons and at Hill Country State Natural Area. Download offline maps before heading out on trail rides or drives toward Lost Maples.
Summer sun is intense and shade varies site to site, so awnings and sun shades earn their keep. Cedar and oak pollen are strong in late winter, and mosquitoes pick up after river-side rains. River levels can rise fast after upstream thunderstorms; renters should avoid parking gear or vehicles on gravel bars overnight.
Most parks are pet-friendly on leash, and quiet hours are enforced given the town's popularity for live music and rodeo weekends.
