Camping near Carrizo Hill, Texas
Carrizo Hill is a small unincorporated community in Dimmit County in South Texas, sitting along US Route 83 adjacent to the Dimmit County Airport. The area lies in the Brush Country, a semi-arid stretch of ranch land between San Antonio and the Rio Grande, with the neighboring county seat of Carrizo Springs providing most services.
RV travelers use Carrizo Hill as a base for hunting trips, casino visits, and stopovers on the drive between San Antonio and the Mexican border at Eagle Pass or the Laredo corridor. Eagle Ford Shale oilfield activity keeps local infrastructure open year-round, and most nearby parks cater to a mix of workforce guests and traveling RVers.
Closest options include SB- RV Park and Triple R Resort RV Park for full-hookup stays near town, Brush Country RV Park for longer-term Dimmit County stays, the Cotulla / Nueces River KOA Journey to the east along Interstate 35, and the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino Hotel RV park about 40 miles southwest in Eagle Pass on the Rio Grande.
Things to do near Carrizo Hill
Dimmit County is heavily oriented toward hunting. The area draws sportsmen for white-tailed deer, quail, and dove, with numerous private ranches and hunting leases across the Brush Country. Non-hunters can use the same landscape for wildlife viewing and birdwatching, especially during spring and fall migration.
The Chaparral Wildlife Management Area, operated by Texas Parks and Wildlife south of Artesia Wells, provides public-access hunting and wildlife viewing on native South Texas brushland. The Nueces River near Cotulla, about 40 miles east, offers bass fishing and paddling, and guests at the Cotulla / Nueces River KOA Journey have direct river access.
Day trips include the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino on the Rio Grande in Eagle Pass, the historic square in Carrizo Springs, and the international border crossing at Eagle Pass into Piedras Negras, Mexico.

66° / 48°F 30 mmMild and dry; peak hunting season demand
The RV season here is essentially the opposite of most of North America. Summers are extreme, with daily highs routinely near or above 100°F from June through August and record highs above 110°F. Most leisure RV travel drops off in mid-summer, and hookup-equipped sites are important because air conditioning runs constantly.
October through April is the practical touring window. Fall and winter bring mild days and cool nights, and this is also when hunting seasons drive heavy demand for RV sites. The Texas Parks and Wildlife general white-tailed deer season in the South Zone runs from early November into mid- to late-January, with dove seasons opening in September. Local parks such as Brush Country RV Park and SB- RV Park see workforce and hunter traffic through these months.
Spring is short and pleasant, with wildflowers and warming temperatures through March and April before summer heat returns in May. Rainfall peaks in late spring and again in early fall, with occasional heavy thunderstorms.
How to book campgrounds near Carrizo Hill
Most parks around Carrizo Hill are privately operated and take reservations directly by phone or through their websites. SB- RV Park, Triple R Resort RV Park, and Brush Country RV Park are the closest full-hookup options and often host monthly guests tied to oilfield work, so calling ahead is the fastest way to confirm availability for shorter RV stays.
The Cotulla / Nueces River KOA Journey books through the KOA reservation system online or by phone, and typically fills faster on hunting weekends and holidays. The Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino Hotel RV park in Eagle Pass offers 20 full-hookup back-in sites with 30/50-amp service and takes bookings through its website and third-party platforms.
For public-land hunting at the Chaparral Wildlife Management Area, permits and drawn hunts are handled separately through Texas Parks and Wildlife, independent of any RV site booking.
What to expect on the ground
This is working ranch and oilfield country, not a resort destination. Expect flat to gently rolling terrain, mesquite and thornbrush, wide skies, and long stretches between towns. Cell coverage is generally reliable along US 83 and Interstate 35 but can drop off on ranch roads.
Parks nearest Carrizo Hill are functional rather than amenity-heavy: level pull-through or back-in sites, 30 and 50-amp service, water and sewer, and gravel or caliche pads. The Cotulla / Nueces River KOA Journey adds family features such as a pool, playground, and river access, while the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino Hotel park is oriented toward casino guests with dining and a pool on the property.
Groceries, fuel, and RV supplies are available in Carrizo Springs and Cotulla. Summer heat, biting insects, and thorny brush are the main hazards, so plan shade, water, and closed footwear for outdoor activity.
