Camping near Comfort, Texas
Comfort sits in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, roughly midway between Kerrville and Boerne along Interstate 10, with the Guadalupe River corridor and the wine country of Fredericksburg within easy reach. The area draws RV travelers with its limestone hills, spring-fed rivers, small historic town squares, and a dense cluster of privately operated RV resorts and public parks.
Options close to town range from full-hookup resorts geared to snowbirds and long-stay travelers to riverside parks built for weekend getaways. Top of the Hill RV Resort and Cabins and Triple T RV Resort serve travelers wanting a quieter Hill Country base, while Old River Road RV Resort Kerrville, TX sits closer to shopping, medical services, and river access. Cowboy Capital RV Park and Campground places visitors near Bandera, and River Trail Cottages offers a smaller, cabin-focused stay.
Public options include Guadalupe River State Park, where visitors can tube the Guadalupe, camp under live oak trees, and paddle the river, plus the 517-acre Kerrville-Schreiner Park along the Guadalupe River with about 13 miles of multi-use hiking and biking trails.
Things to do around Comfort
River recreation drives most trip planning. The Guadalupe is the region's centerpiece for tubing, kayaking, swimming, and fishing, and the river inside Guadalupe River State Park is popular for swimming and tubing in the warmer months, with fishing and canoe access as well. Bird watching and wildlife viewing are strong across the Hill Country, and whitetail deer are commonly seen near campsites.
Off the water, day trips are the norm. Fredericksburg offers wineries, Main Street shopping, and the National Museum of the Pacific War. Boerne and Bandera add small-town dining and rodeo culture. San Antonio, about 30 miles south of Guadalupe River State Park, adds history, museums, and shopping, while New Braunfels showcases the area's German heritage. Comfort itself has a walkable historic district with antique shops and cafes.

Spring and fall are the practical windows for RV travel. March through May brings wildflowers, mild days, and the region's wettest stretch, with thunderstorms possible on short notice. May is typically the wettest month, and thunderstorms can develop quickly on spring afternoons. October and early November bring cooler nights, lower humidity, and lighter crowds, making this a favorite window for longer stays.
Summer is hot and humid. August is the hottest month, with average highs near 94 degrees Fahrenheit and average lows around 72 degrees Fahrenheit, and afternoon thunderstorms are common. River sites and shaded loops fill quickly on summer weekends, especially around holidays.
Winter is short and generally mild, drawing snowbird travelers to full-hookup parks. January is the coldest month, with average highs near 59 degrees Fahrenheit and average lows around 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Hard freezes occur but are usually brief. Flash-flood watches can arise year-round along low water crossings after heavy rain, so check conditions before towing near river bottoms.

Booking and reservations
For public land, Texas State Parks uses a central reservation system. Reservations for Guadalupe River State Park can be made up to five months in advance, online through the Texas State Parks reservation system or by calling the state park customer service center. The park often reaches capacity, and reservations are highly recommended for both camping and day use, so weekends between March and October should be booked well ahead. Day passes are available up to one month before arrival.
City and private parks operate their own systems. To reserve campsites, cabins, or venues at Kerrville-Schreiner Park, visitors use the City of Kerrville Parks and Recreation reservation page or call the park office directly. Private resorts such as Top of the Hill RV Resort and Cabins, Triple T RV Resort, Cowboy Capital RV Park and Campground, and River Trail Cottages typically accept direct online or phone bookings, with longer minimum stays around holidays and major Hill Country events.
What to expect on the ground
Most private parks in the Comfort area offer 30 and 50 amp service, full hookups, and pull-through sites large enough for big rigs, along with laundry, showers, and Wi-Fi of variable quality. Cell coverage is generally good along the I-10 corridor and thinner in the hills south toward Bandera.
Kerrville-Schreiner Park mixes 30 and 50 amp full hookup RV sites with water and electric sites, tent sites, and mini and full cabins, plus restrooms with showers and multi-use hike and bike trails. Deer and armadillos are routine visitors, and shade from live oaks and cedar is common.
Come prepared for heat, sun, and sudden storms in the warm months. Bring leveling blocks, since Hill Country sites are not always flat, and watch for low water crossings on secondary roads after heavy rain.

For a 300-mile Hill Country loop in a Class C, plan on roughly $90-$130 in fuel. Hill Country backroads like FM 473 toward Sisterdale and Highway 27 to Kerrville have a few twists and one-lane low-water crossings, so slow down after rain since flash flooding can hit creeks quickly. Watch for white-tailed deer at dawn and dusk, they're common throughout Kendall County. Pro tip: avoid driving narrow downtown Fredericksburg streets in a Class A, park at a larger lot on the edge of town and walk Main Street instead. The scenery between Comfort and Luckenbach is absolutely worth the slower pace.

From June through early September, expect daytime highs of 92-100°F, so book a campsite with full 50-amp hookups so you can run both air conditioners, and pick a shaded site under the mature oaks at places like Buckhorn Lake Resort or Comfort RV Resort. Start outdoor activities early, then cool off by tubing the Guadalupe River in Comfort or swimming at Krause Springs in Spicewood (about 60 miles away).
