Campgrounds and RV parks near Dilley, TX

The Frio River and surrounding ranch country define most outdoor activity in the Dilley area. The region is known for South Texas whitetail deer, dove, quail, and turkey hunting on private leases, with numerous outfitters operating in Frio and La Salle counties. Choke Canyon State Park, east of Dilley, offers fishing for largemouth bass and catfish, boating on the reservoir, hiking, and wildlife viewing. Choke Canyon sits at the westernmost range of the American alligator, and commonly spotted wildlife also includes white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and javelinas. Day trips from a Dilley basecamp include San Antonio's River Walk, missions, and theme parks to the north, plus Laredo and the Rio Grande border region to the south. Local town stops in Dilley, Pearsall, and Cotulla cover fuel, groceries, and Tex-Mex.

South Texas seasons drive RV demand more than any local event. Summers in the Dilley area are sweltering and muggy, winters are short and cool, and temperatures typically vary from the mid 40s to upper 90s Fahrenheit over the year. RV air conditioning is essential from late spring through early fall, and shaded sites are worth requesting. Fall through winter is the busiest window for overnight RV travel. Frio County falls in the South Zone, where the general white-tailed deer season runs from early November into mid-January, followed by a youth and special late season that can extend into early February. An early youth-only weekend falls in late October. Hunter demand tightens RV park availability in Dilley, Cotulla, and Pearsall during this stretch. Spring brings wildflowers and mild daytime temperatures, and it is also the wettest part of the year, with rainfall peaking in May. Winter is generally mild and dry, drawing Winter Texans passing through on I-35.

Expect a working-town feel rather than a tourist destination. Dilley's RV parks are laid out for easy pull-through access from I-35, and many cater to long-term guests. Sites tend to be gravel or hardpack with full hookups, laundry, and basic amenities; extensive resort features are the exception. Cell coverage along I-35 is reliable, and grocery, fuel, and truck stops are close to the interstate. Shade is limited in the surrounding mesquite brush country, so slide-out awnings and reflective window covers help in warm months. Biting insects, including mosquitoes in wetter periods and fire ants year-round, are worth planning for. Wildlife encounters are common. Deer, javelina, and rattlesnakes are part of the landscape, so keep pets leashed and food secured. Fill fresh water tanks before leaving town if boondocking on ranch land.
