Campgrounds and RV parks near Fort Clark Springs, TX

Fort Clark Springs sits at the southern edge of Brackettville in Kinney County, Texas, about two hours west of San Antonio and 30 miles east of Del Rio along US Highway 90. The property is a 2,700-acre gated resort and residential community built on the grounds of a former U.S. Army post established in 1852 and closed after World War II. RV travelers use it as a base for exploring the western edge of the Texas Hill Country and the Edwards Plateau. The area's main draw is water and history. The Fort Clark Springs pool is the third largest spring-fed pool in Texas and stays 68 degrees year round, which makes it a reliable stop during hot months. The surrounding land supports white-tailed and axis deer, foxes, hawks, javelinas, wild turkeys, and rare birds including the golden-cheeked warbler. Camping options in the region range from state-park primitive sites to full-hookup private RV parks. Named options near Fort Clark Springs include Kickapoo Cavern State Park, Chalk Bluff River Resort and Park, Hidden Valley RV Park in Del Rio, RV Barn Campground, and Broke Mill RV Park. Together they cover cave country to the north, the Nueces River to the east, and the Amistad reservoir area to the west.

State-park sites at Kickapoo Cavern go through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system. Most overnight camping reservations open up to five months in advance and can be made online through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department website or by phone. The park often reaches capacity and recommends reservations for both camping and day use, and group site bookings are handled through the customer service center at (512) 389-8920. Private parks book directly. Chalk Bluff River Resort and Park, Hidden Valley RV Park in Del Rio, RV Barn Campground, and Broke Mill RV Park each take reservations by phone or through their websites, and full-hookup sites often sell out on weekends and holidays. Winter Texan sites at Fort Clark Springs itself fill months ahead for the late-October through March window. Book early for long stays.
