Campgrounds and RV parks near Laughlin Air Force Base, TX

Laughlin Air Force Base sits just east of Del Rio in Val Verde County, Texas, on the US-Mexico border. RV renters coming for a squadron event, PCS move, or family visit will find most camping options clustered a short drive west along US Highway 90, near Lake Amistad. The setting is Chihuahuan Desert scrub cut by the Rio Grande, Pecos, and Devils rivers, with a large international reservoir as the main outdoor draw. Private parks close to base include Hidden Valley RV Park in Del Rio, RV Barn Campground, Broke Mill RV Park, and American Campground. These serve travelers who want full hookups, laundry, and Wi-Fi within a few minutes of the flight line and downtown Del Rio. For a lake-adjacent stay, 277 North Campground sits inside Amistad National Recreation Area, whose reservoir formed at the confluence of the Rio Grande, Devils, and Pecos Rivers and whose headquarters are in Del Rio. Sites there are primitive and managed by the National Park Service, a short drive from the base gate.

Private RV parks around Del Rio, including Hidden Valley RV Park, RV Barn Campground, Broke Mill RV Park, and American Campground, are booked directly with the operator by phone or website. Long-term and monthly rates are common because of Laughlin's steady flow of pilot training students and visiting families, so reserving several weeks out is wise during change-of-command and graduation weeks. Sites inside Amistad National Recreation Area are managed by the National Park Service. 277 North offers 17 primitive sites, which are first-come, first-served only, each with a covered picnic table and a BBQ grill, plus a group site available with reservation only, and no ground fires are allowed. The group campground offers a private primitive space for up to 35 people and is reserved through Recreation.gov. Call the park at 830-775-7491 to confirm conditions before travel.
