Campgrounds near Riesel, Texas
Riesel is a small community in McLennan County, in the Texas Blackland Prairie region about fourteen miles southeast of Waco along the State Highway 6 corridor. RV travelers use it as a quieter base for reaching Waco attractions, Lake Waco, and the Brazos River without staying in the city itself. The Brazos River runs south of town, giving the area its rural, agricultural character.
Several full-hookup RV parks sit within a short drive. Brazos Trail RV Park is located just south of Riesel on Highway 6, with pull-through sites, 30 and 50 amp service, laundry, showers, and Wi-Fi. Patriot RV Park sits along the same corridor, and Flat Creek Farms RV Resort is a resort-style property with more on-site amenities. Riverview Campground offers additional riverfront-oriented options.
Most parks in the area accept big rigs and stay open year-round, making Riesel practical for both overnight stops between Dallas and Austin and longer regional stays.
Things to do near Riesel
Waco is the main day-trip anchor. Visitors head into town for the Magnolia Market at the Silos, the Cameron Park Zoo, the Dr Pepper Museum, and the Waco Mammoth National Monument. The Baylor University campus and the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame add indoor options for hot afternoons.
Outdoor activity centers on the Brazos River and Lake Waco. Cameron Park in Waco has miles of hiking and mountain-biking trails along the bluffs, and Lake Waco offers boat ramps, swimming areas, and fishing for bass and catfish. Falls on the Brazos Park, south of Riesel near Marlin in Falls County, has a small rapids section and picnic areas.
Closer to Riesel itself, expect quiet farm roads, small-town diners, and easy access back to Interstate 35 for wider Central Texas trips.

Central Texas has a humid subtropical climate with mild winters and long, hot summers. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV camping. Mid-March through mid-May brings warm days, wildflowers along the roadsides, and manageable humidity, though it is also the peak severe-weather season, with thunderstorms and occasional tornado watches passing through the region. May is typically the wettest month of the year.
Summer is hot. Daytime highs regularly sit in the mid-thirties Celsius from June through August, and heat advisories are common. Shaded sites, 50-amp service for air conditioning, and early-morning outdoor activity become important. Lake Waco and the Brazos River see their heaviest recreational use in this window.
Winter is short and generally mild, with many days warm enough for outdoor sightseeing. Hard freezes and brief ice events do occur, so travelers in unheated rigs should watch forecasts closely and be ready to disconnect hoses when a cold front pushes through.

Absolutely amazing experience! We had so much fun, and there was plenty of room for our group of 4 adults and 2 kids. Communication with the owner was excellent! They were very responsive and flexible with both pickup and drop-off. We’d definitely rent from them again if the opportunity comes up!

The RV was as advertised everything works and didn’t get to meet Dan but his son Andrew explained everything.
Don D. - Jun 2026
Dan and his teardrop are amazing!!! First - Dan - great communication, explained all the parts and best uses for the trailer, as well as any possible issues. Had all possible connectors, made sure everything was working, and that we were comfortable before handing the trailer over. Extremely accommodating when we needed to make changes! Second - Trailer - is awesome! Best sleep we have had camping (and we are glampers!), the microwave came in so handy when cooking, electrical hook-ups and plugs made everything so convenient, and the ceramic heater available to plug in made it comfortable inside while it was in freezing temperatures outside! We look forward to renting again! Also, so lucky this trailer is towable by our Honda CR-V!

How to book campgrounds near Riesel
Private parks around Riesel, including Brazos Trail RV Park, Patriot RV Park, Riverview Campground, and Flat Creek Farms RV Resort, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Some also list availability on third-party platforms such as RoverPass, Campspot, or Good Sam. Booking two to four weeks ahead is usually enough outside major events.
For state parks in the wider region, such as Mother Neff and Lake Whitney, reservations go through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system online or by phone, and sites are released on a rolling five-month window that fills quickly for spring and fall weekends.
Waco-area events, especially Baylor home football weekends and Silobration in the fall, can absorb most local RV inventory. Book earlier for those dates.
What to expect at Riesel-area RV parks
Most parks in and around Riesel are level, gravel or concrete pad properties oriented toward highway travelers and monthly workers rather than heavily wooded destination resorts. Expect full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, dump stations, potable water, and generally reliable Wi-Fi. Pull-through sites accommodating rigs up to fifty feet are common.
Amenities vary. Brazos Trail RV Park offers laundry, showers, propane refills, and pet areas across roughly one hundred sites. Flat Creek Farms RV Resort leans more toward resort-style facilities. Smaller parks are simpler, with basic bathhouses and open lawn areas.
Cell coverage on the major carriers is generally strong along the Highway 6 corridor. Shade is limited on the open prairie, so summer travelers should plan for direct sun on the rig and confirm site orientation before arrival.

Motorhomes near Riesel typically average around $200 per night, while towable trailers run closer to $125 per night, and many hosts offer weekly or monthly discounts. To score a cheap RV rental Riesel travelers will love, book midweek, target the shoulder months of March, April, October, and early November when Waco-area demand softens, and filter for travel trailers if you already have a tow vehicle. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Riesel%2C%20TexasDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Riesel, TX?
Good news: a regular Class C Texas driver's license (or your equivalent home-state or home-country license) is all you need to rent an RV in Riesel for nearly every motorhome or travel trailer on RVezy. Texas only requires a non-commercial Class B license if the single vehicle's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) exceeds 26,000 pounds, which is well above the vast majority of Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, and travel trailers on the platform. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and ID verification happens right inside the booking flow. Visiting from abroad? An International Driving Permit (IDP) paired with your home license has you set.

You're not locked in the moment you book. RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every booking (hosts do not), and that includes a money-back grace period right after booking so you can change plans without penalty if something pops up early. After the grace window, your refund depends on how far out from your trip you cancel. If a host needs to cancel, RVezy ensures you receive a refund or travel credit. The policy is the same whether you're renting a campervan in Riesel or a fifth wheel for a Waco lake weekend. Pro tip: book early to maximize flexibility, then message your host right away to confirm any specific trip details.

Yes, RV delivery Riesel is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you've never towed before. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts offering this service, and message them with your destination address so they can quote the delivery fee (usually based on distance from their home base). Pro tip: pairing delivery with a stationary stay at a full-hookup park is the ultimate first-time renting an RV experience.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Riesel%2C%20TexasHow far can I travel from Riesel on a typical RV rental?

From Riesel you can reach downtown Waco and Magnolia Market in about 20 minutes, Austin in roughly 2 hours, Dallas-Fort Worth in 2 to 2.5 hours, the Texas Hill Country and Fredericksburg in 3 to 3.5 hours, and Big Bend country in a long day's drive. tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/mother-neffWhen is the best time to take an RV trip from Riesel?
Spring (March through May) and fall (late September through early November) are the sweet spot for any Riesel RV trip. Central Texas shoulder seasons offer daytime highs in the comfortable 70s and 80s with wildflowers in spring and cooler nights in fall. Summer is doable thanks to RV air conditioning, but expect afternoon highs in the mid 90s and occasional triple digits, so plan for shaded sites and early-morning activities. Winters are mild and uncrowded, with first freeze typically in late November or December. Pro tip: time your visit to early April for bluebonnet season, then drive south through Marlin and Cameron for jaw-dropping wildflower photo stops.
weather.gov/fwd/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving in the Riesel area?
Yes, Riesel is one of the easier places in Texas for a first-time RV renter to get comfortable. Highway 6 runs straight through town with wide lanes and light traffic, the surrounding McLennan and Falls County roads are flat and rural, and you won't hit Waco or Dallas-style congestion until you choose to drive there. Every RVezy host gives you a thorough walkthrough at pickup covering driving, hookups, slide-outs, and dump procedures, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included with your protection plan. Pro tip: do a slow practice loop in an empty parking lot in Riesel before heading to your campground. Ten minutes of practice turns into a confident week behind the wheel.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I break down during my Riesel RV trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 6, a battery issue at Lake Whitney, or a slide-out hiccup at Camp Fimfo Waco is just one phone call away from help. Roadside coverage includes services such as towing, tire changes, jump starts, lockout assistance, and fuel delivery. Your host is also a great first text since they know their RV inside and out. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number and your host's contact in your phone before leaving the driveway, and snap a photo of the VIN and license plate. Easy info to have ready if you ever need to call.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Riesel RV rental on a road trip out of Texas or across the border?
Yes, interstate travel is absolutely on the table for your RV road trip from Riesel. Most RVezy hosts allow trips throughout the United States (Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Arkansas are all within easy reach), but always confirm in the listing details or by messaging the host before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage do not extend across the border, so plan US-only itineraries. Popular routes from Riesel include the Texas Hill Country loop through Fredericksburg, the Gulf Coast run down to Galveston (about 4 hours), and the New Mexico desert push to Carlsbad Caverns. Pro tip: confirm cross-state plans in writing through RVezy messaging so everyone is aligned before pickup.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Riesel RV trip?
Fuel is manageable once you plan for it. Class C motorhomes commonly average 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class A motorhomes 6 to 10 MPG, and Class B campervans 15 to 20 MPG. Gas prices in the Waco-Riesel area typically track close to or slightly below the Texas average. For a typical 4-night Riesel RV trip with 300 miles of driving in a Class C, budget roughly $100 to $180 in fuel depending on current pump prices. Pro tip: fill up at the Buc-ee's in Temple or a Loves Travel Stop on I-35 where prices are competitive and you can easily pull through with a long rig.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Riesel?
Earlier is better, especially for Texas state parks. Mother Neff State Park and Lake Whitney State Park both release campsites through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system up to 5 months in advance, and they routinely sell out for spring weekends, Memorial Day, July 4th, and fall college football Saturdays. Private parks in the Waco area, including Camp Fimfo Waco, typically have more flexibility but still fill on Baylor home game weekends. Pro tip: pair your RVezy booking with state park reservations the same day you confirm the RV, and set a calendar reminder for the 5-month opening at 8 a.m. Central. The best sites go fast.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/reservationsWhat driving conditions should I expect around Riesel?
Driving around Riesel is refreshingly low-stress for RV travel. The town sits on Highway 6 between Waco and Marlin, with flat to gently rolling terrain, wide shoulders, and minimal traffic outside of weekday commute hours into Waco. Watch for occasional spring thunderstorms (April through June can bring strong wind and hail), and avoid travel during tornado warnings or flash flood watches issued by the National Weather Service Fort Worth office. Summer heat can stress tires, so check pressure cold each morning. Pro tip: if you're heading into downtown Waco or to Magnolia Market, park your RV at the campground and take a tow car or rideshare. The Silo District streets are tight and parking is limited for big rigs.

Midway Park on Lake Waco offers shaded RV sites with hookups, restrooms, and lake access. Lake Whitney State Park provides water-only sites, sites with water and electricity, and full-hookup sites along with restrooms, showers, fish cleaning stations, and a boat ramp. Mother Neff State Park offers full-hookup loops, hiking trails, and a historic CCC-built tower. Many also offer a TV, Wi-Fi hotspot, and outdoor awning. Campervan rental Riesel options are more compact but include a bed, kitchenette, and often a wet bath. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Riesel%2C%20TexasHow does payment and the security deposit work?

A separate refundable security deposit (set by the host and clearly listed on each RV) is held before your trip and released after the host confirms the RV was returned in good condition with no damage and proper sanitation. Deposits commonly range from a few hundred dollars up to around $1,500 depending on the rig. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround photo and video at pickup and dropoff. It's the simplest way to keep your deposit drama-free on any rent an RV in Riesel transaction.
