Campgrounds near Rocksprings, Texas
Rocksprings sits on the Edwards Plateau in Edwards County, at the western edge of the Texas Hill Country. The town is small and remote, and most RV camping is found along the surrounding river corridors and state-park lands rather than in town. Terrain runs to limestone canyons, cedar and oak brush, and clear spring-fed streams.
The closest options are Los Rios Campground and Nueces River RV and Cabin Resort along the Nueces River, followed by Kickapoo Cavern State Park to the south and Main - South Llano River State Park about an hour north near Junction in Kimble County. Pecan Valley RV Park rounds out the nearby list.
Expect a mix of full-hookup private parks aimed at RV travellers and lightly developed state-park sites better suited to smaller rigs. Cell service is patchy across the region, distances between towns are long, and fuel stops are limited, so trip planning matters more here than in denser parts of the state.
Things to do near Rocksprings
The Nueces and South Llano rivers are the main draws. Both hold water year-round and support tubing, kayaking, swimming, and fishing. The South Llano River is suited for tubing and kayaking, with rentals available in the local area, and the river holds several fish species under standard Texas fishing regulations.
Kickapoo Cavern State Park adds caves, birding, and seasonal bat flights. The park offers hiking, mountain biking, camping, and bird-watching, with guided cave tours running on Saturdays at 1 p.m. by reservation. Stuart Bat Cave hosts thousands of Mexican free-tailed bats from mid-March through October, and visitors can watch evening bat flights at dusk.
Main - South Llano River State Park is a strong pick for hikers and birders. There are more than 20 miles of hike and bike trails and the park is known for its bird blinds, making it a hotspot for birding.

December - February

Spring and fall are the comfortable windows. Main - South Llano River State Park lists its busy season as March through October, and spring weekends around wildflower bloom and bird migration fill fastest. Book several weeks ahead for holiday and spring-break dates.
Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon highs routinely in the low 90s. River sites become the coolest place to be, and shaded or covered picnic tables matter. Burn bans are common in dry stretches, with wood fires prohibited and only charcoal or containerized fuel stoves allowed for cooking. Check park alerts before arrival.
Winter is mild by North-American standards, though cold nights, wind, and occasional freezes occur. Rainfall is lowest in winter and peaks in late spring and September, when flash flooding can close low-water crossings. Main - South Llano River State Park has closed in the past due to flooding on the main park road, with area roads also flooded.
How to book campgrounds near Rocksprings
State-park sites at Kickapoo Cavern State Park and Main - South Llano River State Park are booked through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department reservation system, online or by phone. Standard electric, water, and primitive campsites can be reserved up to 5 months in advance, and popular weekends often sell out.
Kickapoo Cavern State Park often reaches capacity and recommends reservations for both camping and day use. Note the park's limited operating week: it is closed Tuesday through Thursday, and overnight camping is not available on Monday nights.
Private parks such as Los Rios Campground, Nueces River RV and Cabin Resort, and Pecan Valley RV Park take reservations directly by phone or through their own booking pages.
What to expect on-site
Site quality varies by property. State-park sites at Main - South Llano River State Park include water and electric hookups, with picnic tables, fire rings, and restrooms with showers available in the park. The campground is compact and family-oriented, with two miles of riverfront and shaded pecan bottomland.
Kickapoo Cavern State Park is more rustic. The park offers five full-hookup sites and ten water-only sites, and cannot accommodate RVs over 36 feet due to road and site limitations. Campers must pack out all trash, as there is no trash service, and generators may not be used between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Wildlife is common at riverside sites, including white-tailed deer, Rio Grande turkey, armadillos, and feral hogs.

Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every reservation (hosts do not), and it includes a grace period after booking during which you can cancel for a full refund. Exact refund windows and any applicable fees are shown during checkout and in your booking confirmation, and our support team is available before, during, and after your trip. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds you in full or helps you rebook. Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Rocksprings options are easy to find: just flip the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you'll see rigs whose hosts welcome four-legged co-pilots. The Hill Country around Rocksprings is genuinely dog-friendly, with leashed pets allowed on trails at South Llano River State Park, Garner State Park, and Kickapoo Cavern State Park (all within about an hour's drive). Bring a long lead, plenty of water (summer pavement gets hot), and a tick check routine for the cedar brakes. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee or breed notes so check-in is smooth.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/pets-in-parksCan a host deliver the RV to my campsite near Rocksprings?
Yes, RV delivery in Rocksprings is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. Many hosts will tow or drive the motorhome directly to your campsite at South Llano River State Park, Camp Eagle on the Nueces, or a private ranch off Ranch Road 335, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Just use the Delivery filter and enter your destination address. Delivery fees typically scale with distance from the host's base. Pro tip: book delivery if you're heading to the Twisted Sisters loop so you can focus on the scenery, not backing into a tight site.

txdot.gov/Where are the best campgrounds near Rocksprings, TX?
You're spoiled for choice. Top picks for RV camping Rocksprings travelers love include South Llano River State Park in Junction (about 45 miles north, full hookups and tubing on the Llano), Camp Eagle on the Nueces River (about 25 miles south near Camp Wood, with hookup sites and adventure activities), Kickapoo Cavern State Park (about 45 miles southwest with 16 full-hookup RV sites), Parkview Riverside RV Park in Concan (about 60 miles south on the Frio), and Garner State Park (50 miles southeast, the most-visited park in Texas). Pro tip: state park sites book up 5 months out at exactly 8 AM Central, so set a calendar reminder.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/kickapoo-cavernWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Rocksprings?
Rocksprings sits at 2,400 feet on the Edwards Plateau, so it's noticeably cooler than the rest of South Texas, and that opens up a long RV season. Spring (March to May) brings bluebonnets and highs in the 70s to low 80s. Fall (late September to November) is arguably the sweet spot, with mild 70s, cooler nights in the 40s and 50s, and stunning foliage at Lost Maples. Summer days hit the low 90s but cool down sharply at night thanks to the elevation. Winter is mild with highs in the 50s and 60s, great for stargazing under some of the darkest skies in Texas. Pro tip: aim for late October for the best mix of weather and color.
weather.gov/ewx/I've never driven an RV. Will I be okay on Rocksprings backroads?
You'll be just fine, and your host has your back. Every RVezy booking includes a hands-on orientation at pickup where your host walks you through driving, leveling, hookups, water, propane, and the generator. Rocksprings roads are generally low-traffic and well-paved, and the famous Twisted Sisters (Ranch Roads 335, 336, 337) are scenic but winding, so take them slowly and use lower gears on descents. For first time renting an RV, a Class C motorhome or smaller travel trailer is the easiest learning curve. Pro tip: ask your host to record a short walkthrough video on your phone, you'll thank yourself the first time you set up at camp.
txdot.gov/safety/driving-laws.htmlWhat happens if something breaks down during my RV rental in Rocksprings?
You're covered around the clock. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so if you get a flat on US-377 or an electrical hiccup at a remote ranch site outside Rocksprings, one phone call gets help dispatched. You can also message your host directly through the app, most are local Texans who know the nearest mechanic, tire shop in Junction, or propane refill in Leakey. Cell service can be spotty on the Edwards Plateau, so download offline maps in advance. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number and your host's contact in your phone before you leave town.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are popular road trip routes from Rocksprings?
An RV road trip from Rocksprings opens up some of the best scenery in the Southwest. Favorites include the Twisted Sisters loop (Ranch Roads 335, 336, 337, about 100 miles of curves and overlooks), the Frio River run down to Concan and Garner State Park (50 miles), a Hill Country wine swing through Fredericksburg (110 miles) and the LBJ Ranch, a desert escape to Big Bend National Park (about 270 miles via Del Rio), and a dark-sky run to Marfa and McDonald Observatory. Mexico travel is not permitted on RVezy rentals, but you can cross state lines into New Mexico with host approval. Pro tip: fuel up in Junction or Uvalde before heading west, stations get sparse.
nps.gov/bibe/index.htmWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan your fuel budget around 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG) for most Class C motorhomes, 6 to 10 MPG for Class A, and 12 to 18 MPG for a truck-and-travel-trailer combo. Texas gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, and Rocksprings has a couple of local stations on Main Street, but they can be pricey and close early. Top off in Junction (45 miles north on I-10) or Uvalde (65 miles south) where prices are usually lower and stations stay open late. Pro tip: a 4-day, 400-mile Hill Country loop in a Class C usually runs around $150 to $200 in fuel, easy to budget.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Rocksprings?
Texas state parks open reservations exactly 5 months in advance through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) reservation system, and popular spots like Garner, South Llano River, and Lost Maples can fill within minutes for spring weekends, summer holidays, and fall foliage. For private RV parks like Parkview Riverside or Camp Eagle, 2 to 4 months out is usually safe, with shorter lead times midweek. For a campervan rental Rocksprings weekend in the off-season (December to February), you can often book just a week ahead. Pro tip: create your TPWD account before the day reservations drop and have your dates ready at 8 AM Central, sites disappear fast.
texasstateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like in and around Rocksprings?
Driving an RV around Rocksprings is mostly relaxed, with light traffic, wide ranch highways, and gorgeous Hill Country views. The roads to watch are the Twisted Sisters (RR 335, 336, 337), which feature steep grades, tight switchbacks, and signs warning trucks and trailers; take them slowly in a low gear and avoid them in heavy rain. Watch for free-range goats, deer, and the occasional Angora, especially at dawn and dusk (Edwards County is the Angora goat capital of the U.S.). Flash flooding can close low-water crossings after storms. Pro tip: never cross a flooded crossing, Texas's Turn Around Don't Drown rule has saved many a traveler.
drivetexas.org/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Rocksprings?
Most RV-friendly campgrounds near Rocksprings offer at least 30-amp electric and water, and many have full hookups including sewer. South Llano River State Park has 58 sites with water and 30/50-amp electric plus a central dump station, Kickapoo Cavern State Park offers 16 full-hookup sites, and private parks like Parkview Riverside and Camp Eagle have full hookups, hot showers, and Wi-Fi. For potable water and dumping on the road, you'll find dump stations at most state parks (small fee for non-campers) and at private parks in Junction and Leakey. Pro tip: cell service is patchy out here, so download maps and entertainment before leaving Rocksprings.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/south-llano-river/fees-facilitiesWhat's actually inside a typical RV rental in Rocksprings?
More than you'd think. A typical motorhome rental Rocksprings (Class C) sleeps 4 to 6 with a queen bed, convertible dinette, and cab-over bunk, plus a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a wet bath with toilet and shower, roof air conditioning, furnace, propane, and a generator for off-grid power. Travel trailers offer similar layouts towed behind your truck. Many rigs also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and camp chairs. Wi-Fi varies (rural cell signal can be weak around Rocksprings), so check the listing. Seatbelts are required for everyone while driving. Pro tip: filter listings by sleeps count and features like generator and outdoor kitchen for a family RV trip Rocksprings everyone will love.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Rocksprings RV rental?
You can build the trip exactly how you want it. Popular add-ons on RVezy include delivery and setup, generator hours, linen and kitchen kits, camping chairs and tables, outdoor grills, portable Wi-Fi hotspots, bike racks, and pet packages. Pickup is usually at the host's home base in or near Rocksprings, and drop-off is typically the same location at the agreed time. Each listing shows its mileage policy, generator policy, and add-on fees clearly before you book. One-way trips are sometimes possible by messaging the host. Pro tip: bundle delivery + linens + a starter kit on your first booking, it makes a Rocksprings RV trip feel like checking into a cabin with wheels.
fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations/recreational-vehiclesHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which keeps your booking protected. The refundable security deposit is separate from your booking payment and is placed as a hold on your card before pickup, then released after drop-off assuming the RV is returned in the same condition. The deposit amount is shown on each listing so there are no surprises. To avoid issues, take date-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off, follow the mileage and generator policies, and return the RV with the same fuel and tank levels. Pro tip: complete your ID verification right after booking so check-in day is quick and easy.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat's a local insider tip for visiting Rocksprings by RV?
Here's the one most travelers miss: Rocksprings sits inside an officially recognized International Dark Sky region, and the Devil's Sinkhole State Natural Area, just 8 miles northeast of town, hosts evening bat flight tours from May through October where up to 3 million Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from a 400-foot vertical cavern at sunset. Tours are run by the Devil's Sinkhole Society and depart from the Rocksprings visitor center, so park your rig at a nearby site like Ledge Water or a host-delivered spot, and ride the shuttle out. Pro tip: pair the bat flight with a Twisted Sisters drive the next morning for the ultimate Rocksprings RV trip, two unforgettable experiences within 24 hours.
