Campgrounds and RV parks near Craigsville, VA

Craigsville sits in Augusta County in the western Shenandoah Valley, tucked between the ridges of the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests. The Little Calfpasture River passes the town along its course before it is dammed to form Lake Merriweather at the Goshen Scout Reservation. The surrounding countryside is a mix of national-forest land, working farms, and small mountain towns, which shapes the camping options: a handful of private RV parks in the valley plus federal campgrounds and dispersed sites in the forest. RV renters typically base themselves at one of the nearby private campgrounds. Options within roughly an hour include Cold Sulphur Camp Ground and Peaceful River Campground on the Bath County side, Stoney Creek Resort Campground and Walnut Hills Campground and RV Park on the Staunton and Greenville side, and Montebello Camping & Fishing Resort up on the Blue Ridge. These properties range from small, quiet riverside sites to full-service parks with pools and pull-throughs, so it is worth matching the campground to the rig size and the trip plan.

Private campgrounds around Craigsville each use their own reservation system. Walnut Hills Campground and RV Park and Montebello Camping & Fishing Resort take bookings through their websites and Campspot. Stoney Creek Resort Campground books direct by phone or online, and Cold Sulphur Camp Ground is listed on Hipcamp and RoverPass. At Peaceful River Campground, reservations are handled through the operator and advance booking is recommended. Federal sites in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests are handled through Recreation.gov, which opens bookings six months in advance on a rolling window. For peak-season visits, book as early as possible and check individual facility pages for specifics. Dispersed camping on forest land is first-come, first-served and does not require a reservation.
