Campgrounds and RV parks near Baldwin, WI

Hiking is the headline activity at Willow River State Park, where the trail network leads to Willow Falls and overlooks of the river valley. Little Falls Lake provides opportunities for swimming, fishing, and non-motorized boating, with a beach for cooling off afterward. Summer visitors staying at Rivers Edge Campground, Apple River Hide-A-Way, or Float-Rite Park typically build the day around tubing the Apple River, with shuttles running from each resort to upstream drop-in points. The Somerset resorts lean social, with on-site food and beverage service tied to the tubing season. At Frontenac State Park, campers get blufftop views of Lake Pepin, a sledding hill behind the park office in winter, and one of the strongest migratory birding sites in southeastern Minnesota. The In-Yan Teopa limestone arch, accessible via the Upper Bluffside Trail, is one of the most photographed spots in the park.

The prime RV window in western Wisconsin runs from late May through early October. Summer is peak season across every campground on the list: state park loops, private Apple River resorts, and Mississippi bluff sites all fill weekends well ahead. For family campsites, advance reservations booked before May 15 for stays between May 15 and October 31 require a minimum two-night reservation, and a minimum three-night reservation is required on holiday weekends. Popular sites at Willow River book out months in advance. Spring and fall are quieter and better for hiking and paddling without crowds. Peak birding season at Frontenac runs in both spring and fall, when migrating birds pour into the Mississippi flyway; spring visitors may also catch blooming wildflowers, while fall campers get foliage color along the bluffs. Winter camping is limited but possible. Frontenac grooms about 5.7 miles of trails for cross-country skiing and 5.5 miles for snowmobiling, and winter campers should be prepared for freezing temperatures. Most private Apple River campgrounds close outside the summer tubing season.

Willow River's 300 campground has 70 tent, trailer or motor home sites with flush toilets and showers, and the 100 campground has another 50 sites in a newer area with few mature trees and no fully shaded sites. The 200 loop adds another 30 sites, and roughly 59 sites offer electric hookups, with drinking water, flush and vault toilets, showers, and a seasonal dump station on site. Apple River resorts are geared toward summer tubing crowds and lean social, with pools, on-site bars, and shuttle traffic. Sites along the river fill first; back-in loops away from the water tend to be quieter. Larger rigs should confirm amp service and site length at booking. Frontenac offers 58 drive-in campsites, 19 with electric hookups, plus 6 walk-in sites, with modern seasonal restrooms, showers, and a dump station.
