Farrah was helpful, kind and patient with me as the experience of renting a trailer was intimidating and very new for me. Her husband set everything up and they followed through with what they said they would do. These qualities and attributes are deeply important to me. I will be renting through this platform again.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Sooke, BC
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Sooke, BC?
Good news: an RV rental in Sooke is one of the more affordable ways to explore Vancouver Island. On RVezy, towable trailers near Sooke average around CA$120 per night, while motorhomes typically run about CA$200 per night, with most hosts offering 10 to 20 percent off for weekly bookings. For a cheaper RV rental in Sooke, look at shoulder season dates in May, late September, and early October, when nightly rates drop noticeably and the rainforest is at its most lush. Pro tip: filter for travel trailers if you already have a tow vehicle, or pick a Class B campervan rental in Sooke for fuel-efficient solo and couples trips along Highway 14.
sooke.ca/our-community/highway-14/What do I need to rent an RV in Sooke, BC?
Renting an RV in Sooke is refreshingly simple. You just need to be 25 or older and hold a valid driver's license from your home province, state, or country, no commercial or special RV license is required for any motorhome rental in Sooke on the RVezy platform. Visiting from outside Canada? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) if your license is not in English or French, easy to grab from your local auto club before you fly into Victoria International Airport (YYJ). RVezy handles ID confirmation right through the platform during booking, so by the time you arrive in Sooke you are ready to roll straight onto Highway 14.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs the RV covered if something goes wrong during my Sooke trip?
Yes, every booking on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you are covered from the moment you leave your host's driveway until the day you return. During checkout you choose your protection level, which provides financial protection against most accidental damage to the vehicle. That peace of mind matters on the winding stretches of Highway 14 west of Sooke, where tight corners and the occasional deer can keep you on your toes. Pro tip: take five extra minutes during your pickup walkthrough to photograph the RV inside and out, you will start your Sooke RV trip with total confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Sooke RV rental?
You can book your RV rental in Sooke knowing RVezy has a clear, platform-wide cancellation policy that protects you, including a money-back grace period right after you book. Cancellation outcomes depend on how far in advance of your trip you cancel. You do not negotiate this with your host, RVezy sets and manages the policy, not individual owners. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or provides credits so your trip plans stay on track. Pro tip: book early for July and August (Sooke's driest, busiest months) to lock in your dates with confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Sooke RV trip?
Absolutely, Sooke is a dream destination for dog owners, and pet-friendly RV rental in Sooke is easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search and you'll see motorhomes and trailers whose hosts welcome four-legged guests. Once you arrive, your pup can sniff their way along the 10 km Whiffin Spit trail, splash in the Sooke River at Sooke Potholes Regional Park, or hike the on-leash trails of East Sooke Regional Park. Most local campgrounds, including Sooke River Campground and Pedder Bay RV Resort, also welcome dogs. Pro tip: message your host before booking to confirm any size limits, and bring a towel, you'll need it after the Potholes.
crd.bc.ca/parks-recreation-culture/parks-trails/find-park-trail/east-sookeCan the RV be delivered to my campground or vacation rental in Sooke?
Yes, RV delivery in Sooke is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it is a game-changer if it is your first time renting an RV. Many hosts based in Greater Victoria, Langford, and Sooke will drive the RV to your chosen spot, level it, hook it up, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Popular delivery destinations include Sooke River Campground on Phillips Road, Pedder Bay RV Resort and Marina in Metchosin, and Sunny Shores Resort on Sooke Road. Use the Delivery filter when searching, then message hosts directly to confirm distance fees. Pro tip: delivery is especially handy if you are flying into Victoria International Airport (YYJ) without a tow vehicle.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Sooke%2C%20British%20ColumbiaHow far can I travel from Sooke on an RV road trip?
You will be surprised how much of Vancouver Island opens up from a base in Sooke. Popular routes for an RV road trip from Sooke include Port Renfrew via Highway 14 (about 72 km, around 90 minutes), the Pacific Marine Circle Route through Lake Cowichan and Duncan (roughly 255 km loop), Goldstream Provincial Park (about 35 km east, perfect for a salmon-run day trip), and Tofino on the west coast (about 300 km, around 4.5 hours). Mileage policies vary by host, so always check the listing page, many include 100 to 200 km per night, and several offer RV rental with unlimited mileage. Pro tip: ask your host about adding kilometres upfront for the Pacific Marine Circle Route, it is cheaper than paying overage at return.
hellobc.com/things-to-do/road-trips/pacific-marine-circle-route/Where are the best campgrounds near Sooke, BC?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to the best campgrounds near Sooke. Sooke River Campground on Phillips Road has 60 riverside sites with 30-amp electric hookups and open March through September. Spring Salmon Place (Sooke Potholes) Campground, operated by T'Sou-ke Nation with the Capital Regional District, offers 67 first-come, first-served sites mid-May to mid-September. Pedder Bay RV Resort and Marina in nearby Metchosin has full-service oceanfront sites year-round. Sunny Shores Resort on Sooke Road offers 70 sites and pull-throughs for big rigs. For wilder vibes, French Beach Provincial Park sits 20 minutes west on Highway 14 with surf-side sites. Pro tip: RV camping in Sooke books up fast for July and August, so reserve as soon as your dates are set.
bcparks.ca/french-beach-park/When is the best time of year for an RV trip in Sooke?
July and August are unbeatable for RV camping in Sooke, with daytime highs around 20 to 21°C (68 to 70°F), long daylight hours, and the driest weather of the year (July averages almost no significant rainfall). June and September are the smart-money shoulder months: still mild, far fewer crowds, and lush rainforest scenery. Sooke sits in a temperate rainforest microclimate, so winters are mild (around 8°C / 46°F in January) but very wet, especially November to January when atmospheric rivers roll in. Snow at sea level is rare and short-lived. Pro tip: visit in September for warm beach days, fall salmon runs along the Sooke River, and easier campground bookings than peak summer.
weather.gc.ca/en/location/index.html?coords=48.382%2C-123.728I've never driven an RV before. Is Sooke a good place to start?
Honestly, yes, Sooke is a fantastic place for first time renting an RV. Highway 14 from Langford to Sooke is paved, two-lane, and well-signed, and the District of Sooke itself is small enough that you'll quickly get comfortable. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through the propane, water, slide-outs, and dump valves, you won't be left guessing. Many hosts also offer delivery and setup so you don't have to drive the rig at all on day one. Pro tip: stick close to town for night one (Sooke River Campground is 5 minutes from groceries and gas), then build up to the winding stretch west toward Jordan River and Port Renfrew once you've found your road legs.
sooke.ca/our-community/highway-14/What happens if the RV breaks down during my Sooke trip?
Take a breath, you are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 14 or a battery issue at French Beach Provincial Park is just a phone call away from being sorted. Your host is also a direct lifeline, most are local to Greater Victoria or Sooke and can walk you through quick fixes by phone. Keep in mind that cell coverage thins out west of Jordan River toward Port Renfrew, so download offline maps before heading that way. Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's VIN, plate, and propane shut-off location during your walkthrough, it speeds up any roadside call.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Sooke RV rental across the border into the United States?
Cross-border travel is sometimes possible, but it depends on the host and the RV's insurance, so confirm directly with the owner before you book. Some Sooke and Greater Victoria hosts allow trips to Washington State (the Black Ball Ferry runs from Victoria to Port Angeles in about 90 minutes, putting Olympic National Park within easy reach), while others keep their RVs on Vancouver Island only. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. Pro tip: message the host with your exact route, including ferry plans and overnight stops, then bring your passport, proof of insurance, and the RV's registration to the border.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for in Sooke?
Plan smart and your fuel budget won't blow up your trip. Class B campervans near Sooke average around 8 to 10 L/100km (24 to 29 MPG), Class C motorhomes around 18 to 22 L/100km (11 to 13 MPG), and larger Class A rigs more. Gas prices in Sooke and Greater Victoria tend to run higher than mainland BC averages, so fill up in Langford on your way in if possible. The lone gas station between Sooke and Lake Cowichan is at Pacheena 1 near Port Renfrew, so top up in Sooke before any Pacific Marine Circle Route attempt. Pro tip: short hops are the way to do Sooke, base yourself near town and day-trip out, you'll save fuel and see more.
www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/industry/natural-gas-oil/petroleum-productsHow far in advance should I book a campsite near Sooke?
For peak season (July and August) you'll want campsite reservations locked in early. BC Parks uses a three-month rolling reservation window through camping.bcparks.ca, so sites at French Beach Provincial Park or China Beach in Juan de Fuca Provincial Park open exactly three months before your arrival date at 7 a.m. Pacific. Private parks like Sooke River Campground and Sunny Shores Resort take direct bookings further out, often 6 to 12 months ahead for summer weekends. Spring Salmon Place at Sooke Potholes is first-come, first-served only, so arrive early on a weekday for the best shot. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly 90 days before your trip start, then book the moment the window opens.
bcparks.ca/reservations/frontcountry-camping/What are the driving conditions like on Highway 14 around Sooke?
Highway 14, also called Sooke Road or the West Coast Highway, is paved and well-maintained, but it's also a curvy, two-lane coastal road with low speed limits, hilly stretches, and very few passing lanes once you're past Sooke heading toward Port Renfrew. Watch for deer, black bears, and the occasional logging truck, and expect cell service to drop off west of Jordan River. In winter, Pacific storms can bring strong winds and downed branches, so check DriveBC.ca before heading out. Pro tip: if a local driver is on your tail, just use a pull-out, the views over the Strait of Juan de Fuca toward Washington's Olympic Mountains are worth the pause anyway.
drivebc.ca/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Sooke?
Sooke-area campgrounds run the full range from full-service resorts to wilderness-style sites, so there's something for every comfort level. Pedder Bay RV Resort and Sunny Shores Resort offer 30/50-amp electric, water, sewer, Wi-Fi, laundry, showers, and dump stations. Sooke River Campground has 30-amp power, flush toilets, hot showers, and a dishwashing station. Spring Salmon Place (Sooke Potholes) is self-contained camping, pit toilets, picnic tables, fire rings, and potable water, but no hookups. French Beach Provincial Park is similar. You'll find dump stations and potable water fills at the larger private parks. Pro tip: if you need full hookups, book Pedder Bay or Sunny Shores; if you want the rainforest-and-river experience, choose Sooke River Campground.
crd.bc.ca/parks-recreation-culture/parks-trails/find-park-trail/sooke-potholesWhat's inside a typical RV rental in Sooke?
You'll be surprised how well-equipped most RV rentals in Sooke are. Expect a real bed (queen is standard, plus convertible dinettes and bunks in family rigs), a kitchen with a propane stove, fridge/freezer, microwave, and sink, and a full bathroom with toilet and shower in Class B, Class C, and most travel trailers. Heating and air conditioning come standard, and many listings include a generator, solar setup, outdoor speakers, TV, and Wi-Fi hotspots, perfect for Sooke's mix of beach days and rainy-night movie nights. Every passenger must have a seatbelt, so check the listing's seated/sleeps numbers carefully. Pro tip: message hosts about bedding and kitchen kits, many include linens, dishes, and coffee makers free with the booking.
tc.canada.ca/en/road-transportation/motor-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options should I expect when I rent an RV in Sooke?
Hosts in Sooke offer a great mix of add-ons that make your trip easier. Common extras include bedding and towel packages, kitchen kits, camp chairs and tables, BBQs, bike racks, kayaks and paddleboards, generators, and pet cleaning fees. Mileage policies vary, many hosts include 100 to 200 km per night with the option to pre-buy more, and some offer unlimited mileage for Vancouver Island trips. Pickup is usually from the host's home in Sooke, Langford, or Greater Victoria, often within 30 minutes of Victoria International Airport (YYJ). Pro tip: book delivery and setup right to Sooke River Campground or French Beach, then take the BC Transit #61 bus or a taxi from the airport, you can skip renting a separate car entirely.
bctransit.com/victoria/schedules-and-mapsHow does payment and the security deposit work on an RVezy booking in Sooke?
Payment is straightforward and secure, you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit card, never directly to the host in cash or e-transfer, which keeps your booking fully protected. The security deposit is separate from your booking payment and is pre-authorized on your card before your trip starts; the exact amount is shown on the listing and held in case of damage, late return, or excess mileage. After a clean return it is released back to your card, typically within a few business days. Pro tip: do a thorough joint walkthrough with your Sooke host at pickup and again at drop-off, take date-stamped photos and videos, and you will head home with both happy memories and your full deposit back.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksIs it worth renting an RV in Sooke during the rainy off-season?
It can be magical, if you pack right. Sooke sits in a coastal Pacific rainforest with mild but wet winters (around 5 to 8 degrees C / 41 to 46 degrees F in January, with heavy November rainfall), so a winter RV rental in Sooke is really a storm-watching and waterfall-chasing adventure. Look for RVs with strong propane furnaces and shore power, and choose campgrounds with year-round hookups like Pedder Bay RV Resort or Sunny Shores Resort. Sooke Potholes thunders dramatically after rain, and the surf at Jordan River pulls in surfers all winter. Pro tip: build in flexibility for atmospheric river days, then plan a hot tub stop or a tasting at Sheringham Distillery for the wettest afternoons.
