2023 Coleman Travel Trailer
Great experience overall. The trailer was delivered and set up before we arrived, with power on, AC running, and the awning already out, which made everything incredibly easy for our family. It gave us a comfortable place to cool off and escape the heat during our family campout, and everything went well throughout the stay. The only issue we ran into was some water dripping from the water heater area, but Jakwan was responsive and helped us work through it. Reducing the water pressure going into the trailer, or shutting the water off when not in use, seemed to resolve the concern enough for the trip. Overall, the trailer served our family well, communication was good, and we appreciated the convenience of having everything set up and ready to go.

Great service and super communicative. Literally showed up to our campsite with an awesome trailer already set up! fridges were cooled and AC was pumping. Glorious. The KING bed is what sold us(most seem to only be queen size). Super plush foam topper was also much appreciated! Only negative which isn’t a negative at all but personal preference- I assumed all the decor etc was just for the listing photos. No, it’s all IN the trailer as well. Had I known, I likely would have asked for a “bare bones” version without the glass vase, faux orchid plant, bonsai, puzzles, throw pillows. All beautiful touches but felt like they were in the way. Overall, everything was new, new, new and pristine! Highly recommend this company- they have other rentals on here as well I believe! Will 100% rent again!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Julian, CA

How much does an RV rental in Julian, CA typically cost?

RV rental in Julian is one of the most affordable mountain getaways in Southern California. Travel trailers often start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes typically run $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A rigs land between $250 and $400 nightly on RVezy. Because Julian is a small mountain town of about 1,500 people, most renters pick up their RV in San Diego (about 60 miles southwest) where supply is highest and prices are most competitive. To score a cheap RV rental in Julian, book mid-week in spring or late fall, skip the apple-picking weekends in September and October, and use the price filter on RVezy to set your nightly budget. Pro tip: a Sunday-through-Thursday booking can shave 20% off a typical weekend rate.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Julian, CA?

Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Julian. California does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any RV-specific endorsement for motorhomes and trailers under 40 feet, which covers virtually every RV on RVezy. You'll need to be 25 or older (an RVezy approved-driver requirement), and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Grab an International Driving Permit from your home country's auto association before you fly in. Once that's sorted, you're free to point the wheels toward Julian's apple orchards, the Cuyamaca Mountains, or the Anza-Borrego desert without a second thought.

What protection comes with my Julian RV rental?

Every RV rental in Julian booked through RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the winding road up Highway 79 with peace of mind. You choose your protection level at checkout (Standard, Specialized, or Premium), and roadside assistance is included with every plan. The protection plan covers most physical damage to the vehicle up to set limits, giving you substantial financial protection built specifically for peer-to-peer RV rentals. Combined with around-the-clock roadside help for things like flat tires, lockouts, or battery issues in remote spots like Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, you can focus on the apple pie and the stargazing rather than the what-ifs.

What if my plans change? Can I cancel my Julian RV rental?

Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not the host), and the terms shown at checkout apply to every booking, so you can lock in your dates with confidence. If you need to cancel, your refund depends on how far out you cancel, and RVezy support handles every cancellation directly. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy makes it right with a full refund or RVezy credits, with no penalty to you. Wildfire closures or winter storms can occasionally affect Julian's mountain roads, and RVezy support is there to help work through those situations. The takeaway: you don't have to wait until the forecast is perfect to grab the RV you want for your Julian RV trip.

Can I bring my dog on a Julian RV trip?

Absolutely, and Julian is a fantastic dog destination. Plenty of hosts on RVezy offer pet-friendly RV rental Julian options; just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search and you'll see only listings that welcome four-legged co-pilots. William Heise County Park allows leashed dogs in the campground for a small additional fee, and Cuyamaca Rancho State Park permits dogs in campgrounds and on paved park roads. Around town, Main Street's wide sidewalks and the patios at Julian Beer Company and Jeremy's on the Hill are dog-welcoming. Pro tip: bring extra water bowls. Julian sits at 4,200 feet elevation, and dogs dehydrate faster up here than they do at sea level.
sdparks.org/content/sdparks/en/park-pages/WilliamHeise.html

Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Julian?

Yes, RV delivery in Julian is one of the smartest ways to start your trip, especially if you're nervous about driving a big rig up the twisty mountain grades on Highway 78 or 79. Many RVezy hosts based in San Diego County will deliver and set up your motorhome or travel trailer directly at William Heise County Park, KQ Ranch Resort, Pinezanita RV Park, or even a friend's Julian-area driveway. They'll level the rig, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Filter for Delivery on RVezy, message the host with your campsite number, and confirm the fee (often based on mileage from their home base). It's the easiest way to enjoy RV camping Julian without ever touching the wheel.

How far can I drive from Julian, and is unlimited mileage available?

Julian is the perfect launching pad for a Southern California road trip, and yes, RV rental with unlimited mileage is available from many RVezy hosts (look for the unlimited-miles badge on the listing). From Julian you can reach Anza-Borrego Desert State Park in about 45 minutes, San Diego beaches in around 90 minutes, Joshua Tree National Park in roughly 3 hours, Los Angeles in about 3 hours, and even the Grand Canyon's South Rim in around 8 hours. If a host has a daily mileage cap, extra miles typically run $0.30 to $0.50 each, and your RVezy protection coverage is valid throughout the U.S. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm mileage terms for your planned route.

Where are the best campgrounds near Julian, CA?

Julian is surrounded by some of San Diego County's best RV camping. William Heise County Park sits about 4 miles from town with RV-friendly sites, partial hookups, hot showers, and miles of trails. KQ Ranch Resort offers full hookups, a heated pool, mini-golf, and a stocked fishing lake on a gated resort just east of town. Pinezanita RV Park, family-run for decades, sits right on Highway 79 with shaded sites under tall pines. Inside Cuyamaca Rancho State Park, Paso Picacho and Green Valley campgrounds offer dozens of sites at 4,000 to 5,000 feet elevation. For desert vibes, Stagecoach Trails RV Park sits on the edge of Anza-Borrego with full hookups and dark skies. Book early; weekends sell out months ahead.
sdparks.org/content/sdparks/en/park-pages/WilliamHeise.html

When is the best time to plan a Julian RV trip?

Julian is a year-round destination with four real seasons, which is rare for Southern California. The sweet spot for most RV travelers is late April through June (wildflowers, mild 70s) and mid-September through early November (apple harvest, golden oaks, daytime highs in the 70s and low 80s). July and August can hit the upper 80s in the daytime but cool to the 50s at night thanks to Julian's 4,200-foot elevation. December through March brings genuine winter, with overnight lows in the 30s and occasional snow that can dust the pines and Main Street. Apple-picking weekends in September and October are magical but crowded, so book your RV camping Julian dates 2 to 3 months ahead for that window.

I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving in Julian?

You've got this, and first time renting an RV in the Julian area is more common than you'd think. Every RVezy host gives a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, hookups, slide-outs, and tank dumping, and you can text them throughout your trip if anything comes up. The drive from San Diego to Julian on Highway 79 is paved, two-lane, and scenic, with a few steep grades around Pine Hills and the Cuyamaca summit (downshift, take it slow, and use turnouts to let faster cars pass). Avoid Banner Grade (Highway 78 east of town) in your first hour behind the wheel, since it drops thousands of feet in just a few miles. Pro tip: choose a Class C or campervan rental Julian for an easier first-time experience.

What happens if something goes wrong on the road?

You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on Sunrise Highway, a dead battery at Lake Cuyamaca, or a lockout at the William Heise dump station is one phone call away from a fix. Your host is also a direct text away for questions about quirks specific to their RV, since they're a real person who knows the rig inside and out. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after every trip if anything bigger comes up. Cell service in Julian itself is solid (Verizon and AT&T both work downtown), but coverage drops in parts of Cuyamaca Rancho State Park and Anza-Borrego, so save the roadside number in your contacts before you head out.

Can I take my Julian RV rental on a longer road trip or across state lines?

Yes, Julian is a fantastic launchpad for an RV road trip from Julian. Interstate travel within the U.S. is allowed on RVezy rentals, so popular multi-day routes include Julian to Joshua Tree to Las Vegas (about 6 hours), Julian to Sedona, Arizona (about 7.5 hours), or a coastal swing through Big Sur and back. RVezy protection coverage is valid throughout the United States, and travel into Mexico is not permitted because cross-border driving isn't covered. Heading north into Canada may be possible with host approval, so message them before booking to confirm. Pro tip: many hosts cap daily mileage, so confirm unlimited miles or buy a mileage package upfront for big trips.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validity

What should I budget for fuel on a Julian RV trip?

Fuel is usually the second-biggest cost after the rental itself, so it's smart to plan ahead. Class C motorhomes around Julian average 8 to 10 miles per gallon, Class B campervans get 16 to 20 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (typically 10 to 14 mpg). California gas prices run higher than the national average, often above $4.50 per gallon in San Diego County. Fill up in Ramona or Santa Ysabel before climbing to Julian; the small handful of Julian gas stations are convenient but priced higher because of the mountain location. A 200-mile loop from San Diego to Julian to Anza-Borrego and back will run roughly $80 to $130 in fuel for a Class C.
energy.ca.gov/data-reports/energy-almanac/transportation-energy/california-retail-fuel-outlet-annual-reporting

How far in advance should I book a campground near Julian?

Plan ahead, especially for popular campgrounds. William Heise County Park accepts reservations through the San Diego County Parks system at sdparks.org, and weekends fill within hours of opening. Cuyamaca Rancho State Park's Paso Picacho and Green Valley campgrounds book up to 6 months ahead via ReserveCalifornia.com, with reservations strongly recommended in peak season. Private parks like KQ Ranch Resort and Pinezanita take direct bookings on their websites. For apple-season weekends in September and October, lock in your spot at least 4 months out. Pro tip: weeknights almost always have last-minute availability, even in peak season, and your RVezy host can often help recommend a campground that fits the rig.
reservecalifornia.com/

What are the local driving conditions like around Julian?

Driving to Julian is scenic but mountain-style, so a heads-up helps. Highway 79 from the south and Highway 78 from the west are paved two-lane roads with steady grades, sharp curves, and elevation gains of 3,000 feet or more from San Diego. Banner Grade (Highway 78 east of Julian, dropping into Anza-Borrego) is one of California's steepest descents and not ideal for first-time RV drivers. Winter storms can briefly require tire chains on Sunrise Highway and Highway 79; CalTrans posts current chain controls online. Summer afternoons can bring strong gusts on the ridgelines, so heed high-profile-vehicle warnings. Pro tip: download offline maps before you leave San Diego because cell coverage drops between Ramona and Santa Ysabel.
quickmap.dot.ca.gov/

What hookups and amenities will I find at campgrounds near Julian?

You'll find the full range. KQ Ranch Resort and Pinezanita offer full hookups (30/50-amp electric, water, sewer) plus pools, laundry, and Wi-Fi. William Heise County Park has sites with partial hookups (electric and water), an on-site dump station, hot showers, and potable water fill-ups. Cuyamaca Rancho's Paso Picacho and Green Valley are no-hookup campgrounds with potable water spigots, flush restrooms, and a dump station, perfect for self-contained rigs. Stagecoach Trails RV Park near Anza-Borrego has full hookups and dark-sky stargazing. Pro tip: top off fresh water in Julian or Santa Ysabel before heading into Cuyamaca, and never dump grey or black water anywhere except a marked dump station. Your RVezy listing page shows exactly which onboard systems your rig has.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=667

What's inside the RVs available for rent in Julian?

More creature comforts than most first-timers expect. A typical motorhome rental Julian on RVezy includes a queen or king bed, fold-out dinette and couch (sleeping 4 to 8 total), a full kitchen with stove, microwave, fridge, and sink, a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower, roof air conditioning, propane furnace, and seatbelted seats for travel. Most newer rigs come with a TV, and many hosts add a generator, outdoor speakers, or solar for off-grid stays in Anza-Borrego. Wi-Fi varies; some hosts include a hotspot, others rely on your phone tethering. Each RVezy listing shows exactly what's included, plus reviews from real guests, so you know what you're getting. Pro tip: campervans excel at Julian's narrow downtown streets.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Julian%2C%20California

What add-ons can I get with a Julian RV rental, and how do pickup and drop-off work?

Hosts on RVezy customize the experience to fit your family RV trip Julian style. Common add-ons include kitchen kits, bedding and linen packages, camping chairs and tables, generators, bike racks, propane fills, and pre-stocked firewood. Many hosts also offer paid dump-and-clean services so you don't have to handle tanks at the end. Pickup is typically at the host's home (most often in San Diego, Escondido, or Ramona) where you'll get a 30 to 60 minute personal walkthrough; drop-off is the same location at an agreed time. One-way road trip from Julian setups are sometimes possible with host approval, so message the host before booking to discuss popular routes like Julian to Phoenix or Julian to LA.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Julian%2C%20California

How do payment and the security deposit work?

Payment is simple and built into the RVezy platform, so there's no awkward Venmo at pickup. You pay an initial amount at booking and the balance is automatically charged before your trip starts, all on a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit (typically a few hundred to a few thousand dollars depending on the RV's value and your chosen protection level) is placed as a hold on your card a few days before pickup. Assuming the RV comes back in the condition it left, the hold is released within a few business days after your trip. Pro tip: take time-stamped photos and a short video of the RV inside and out at pickup and drop-off, log the starting odometer and fuel level, and keep all dump-station and fuel receipts.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-works

Can I take an RV to Julian in winter, and is it worth it?

Yes, and a winter Julian RV trip is one of the best-kept secrets in Southern California. Julian sits at 4,200 feet and gets occasional snow from December through March, transforming the historic Main Street into a postcard scene. Many RVezy hosts rent year-round; just look for listings that mention four-season insulation, heated holding tanks, and a propane furnace, all of which keep you cozy down to the 30s overnight lows. William Heise County Park stays open all winter and is one of the few San Diego County parks that gets regular snow. Plug into shore power when available so the furnace can run freely without draining the house battery. Pro tip: pack tire chains and check CalTrans before driving up after a storm.
