The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is considered one of Jacksonville's top attractions, with roughly 2,000 animals spread across over 120 acres. You'll come face-to-face with dozens of rare critters during your visit, including Sumatran tigers, African elephants, and southern white rhinos. Jacksonville is also home to one of the best museums in North Florida, the Cummer Museum of Art. The museum has a permanent collection of approximately 5,000 objects dating back over 4,000 years, with paintings by Winslow Homer, Norman Rockwell, and Peter Paul Rubens. After touring the museum, take a stroll through the museum's ornate 100-year-old gardens.
Prefer to spend your days exploring the Sunshine State's gorgeous countryside? If so, head to the Big Talbot Island State Park. One of two state parks spread across Jacksonville's barrier islands, Big Talbot Island State Park provides a unique mixture of coastal woodlands, pristine beaches, and salt marshes. During your visit, swing by Boneyard Beach, which is littered with the bleached remains of oak and cedar trees. Or, rent a kayak and take a birding tour of the island's marshes, spotting rare birds like bald eagles, wood storks, and least terns.
