How much does it cost to rent an RV in Crest Hill, IL?
Good news: an RV rental in Crest Hill, IL is one of the more affordable ways to explore the Chicago suburbs and northern Illinois. On RVezy, expect roughly $125 to $185 per night for travel trailers, $150 to $200 for Class C motorhomes, and $200 to $300 for larger Class A motorhomes, with peak summer weekends near the high end. To score a cheap RV rental in Crest Hill, book midweek, target shoulder season (April to May or late September), and look for hosts offering weekly discounts. Pro tip: trailers are usually the best value if you already have a tow-capable SUV or truck sitting in the driveway.
enjoyillinois.com/plan-your-trip/places-to-stay/camping-and-rv-parks-in-illinois/What license do I need to rent an RV in Crest Hill, Illinois?
Great news for first-time renters: a regular Illinois driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Crest Hill. No Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement is required for any RV available on RVezy, including Class A motorhomes, Class C motorhomes, campervans, and travel trailers. You must be 25 or older to book, and you'll confirm your identity directly through the RVezy platform during checkout. Visiting from outside the United States? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto association and you're set to roll out of Crest Hill.
ilsos.gov/departments/drivers/drivers_license/home.htmlIs the RV protected if something goes wrong on my trip?
Yes, you can book with confidence: every RV rental in Crest Hill, IL booked through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance. The protection plan covers damage to the vehicle during your trip, giving you real financial peace of mind. During checkout you choose your coverage level from the available RVezy renter protection plans, so you can match protection to your comfort level. Hosts do not pick the plan, you do. Pro tip: if you are a first-time renter heading to Starved Rock or Indiana Dunes, the upgraded tier is worth the extra few dollars per night.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my plans change?
Flexibility is built in: RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every booking (not the individual host), so you see the same clear rules whether you are renting a campervan in Crest Hill or a fifth wheel in nearby Joliet. There is a money-back grace period right after booking, and refund eligibility scales based on how far out from your trip start date you cancel. The full details are available in your booking confirmation and in the RVezy Help Center. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best Memorial Day or summer festival weekend rigs, knowing you have a window to adjust if plans change.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Crest Hill RV rental?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Crest Hill is easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page and you'll see dozens of hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) for a small cleaning add-on, usually $25 to $75. Once on the road, your pup will love nearby Hammel Woods Forest Preserve in Shorewood, the off-leash dog area at Whalon Lake in Naperville, and the leashed trails along the I&M Canal State Trail right through Will County. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet size limits and ask about a fenced yard for delivery setups.
reconnectwithnature.org/Can the RV be delivered to my campground or home in Crest Hill?
Yes, RV delivery in Crest Hill is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who would rather not drive a big rig through Will County traffic. Many local hosts will tow or drive the RV to your driveway, a nearby campground like Leisure Lake Resort in Coal City, or even Starved Rock area parks. They level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Delivery fees typically run $2 to $4 per mile round trip. Pro tip: filter listings by Delivery on the RVezy search page to instantly see who offers it near Crest Hill.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Crest%20Hill%2C%20IllinoisHow far can I drive, and what are the mileage policies?
You've got plenty of road ahead: most Crest Hill hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with additional miles at roughly $0.35 to $0.50 each, and some hosts even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer trips. From Crest Hill you're 45 miles southwest of downtown Chicago, 60 miles to Starved Rock State Park, 75 miles to Indiana Dunes National Park, about 175 miles to Galena in the northwest, and 295 miles to St. Louis. Pro tip: estimate your route in advance and message the host, many will bump up your mileage allowance or sell a discounted package upfront if you ask.
fhwa.dot.gov/Where are the best campgrounds near Crest Hill, IL?
You're spoiled for choice: the best campgrounds near Crest Hill range from full-hookup resorts to quiet state park sites. Top picks include Hollywood Casino Joliet RV Park (5 miles away, walking distance to the casino and riverboat), Leisure Lake Resort in Coal City (25 miles south, lake swimming and full hookups), Des Plaines Conservation Area in Wilmington (15 miles, rustic state-managed sites), Channahon State Park along the I&M Canal (10 miles, free first-come-first-served sites with electric), and Starved Rock State Park campground in Oglesby (60 miles southwest, the classic Illinois RV camping Crest Hill weekend trip). Pro tip: Channahon fills fast on summer weekends, arrive Thursday for the best spots.
dnr.illinois.gov/parks/park.channahonstatepark.htmlWhen is the best time of year to take a Crest Hill RV trip?
Late May through early October is prime time for an RV rental Illinois adventure based in Crest Hill, with daytime highs ranging from the upper 60s in May to the mid 80s in July and back to the low 70s in September. June and September are the sweet spot, warm days, cool nights in the 50s, fewer mosquitoes, and lower rental rates than peak July and August. Fall foliage along the I&M Canal and at Starved Rock peaks in mid-to-late October. Winters get cold (highs in the 30s, lows in the teens), so most leisure RV travel pauses December through March. Pro tip: book a September trip to catch harvest festivals in nearby Yorkville and Plainfield.
weather.gov/lot/I have never driven an RV before. Is that okay?
Totally okay, many guests booking in Crest Hill are first-time renters, and RVezy is built for you. Every host gives a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, leveling, the propane system, the water tanks, slide-outs, and the generator. You can message the host with questions before booking, and RVezy support is available once you are on the road. If you are nervous about navigating I-55 or I-80, ask the host for delivery, your motorhome rental in Crest Hill arrives already parked and set up. Pro tip: start with a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer for your first time renting an RV, they drive much more like a large van.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if I get a flat tire or break down on the road?
You are never stranded: every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so help is one phone call away whether you are stuck on I-55 outside Joliet or pulled over near Starved Rock. Roadside assistance covers situations like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing. Your host is also a quick text away to troubleshoot quirks unique to their RV. Pro tip: before you leave Crest Hill, save your roadside assistance number in your phone and write it on a card in the glovebox, you will find it instantly if cell service is spotty along rural stretches.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best RV road trips from Crest Hill, IL?
You're sitting on one of the best launch pads in the Midwest. Top RV road trip from Crest Hill ideas: Starved Rock and Matthiessen State Parks (60 miles southwest, waterfalls and canyons), Indiana Dunes National Park (75 miles east, Lake Michigan beaches and dunes), Galena and the Mississippi River bluffs (175 miles northwest, historic riverside town), Wisconsin Dells (200 miles north, waterparks and Devil's Lake State Park), and the full Route 66 run down to St. Louis (295 miles, classic diners and Gateway Arch). Cross-state into Indiana or Wisconsin is allowed on most rentals, just confirm with your host. Pro tip: Mexico travel is not permitted on RVezy rentals at all.
enjoyillinois.com/things-to-do/illinois-road-trips/What kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and how should I budget for gas?
Plan smart and fuel won't bust your budget. Travel trailers don't burn their own gas, you'll just notice your tow vehicle drops to about 10 to 13 miles per gallon (MPG). Class B campervans get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A motorhomes land around 7 to 10 MPG. Illinois regular gas typically runs about $3.30 to $3.80 per gallon in the Joliet and Crest Hill area, often cheaper than Chicago city stations. For a 300-mile weekend in a Class C, budget roughly $90 to $120 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Crest Hill or Shorewood before heading north, suburban prices beat the toll-road plazas by 30 to 50 cents per gallon.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Crest Hill?
Plan ahead and you will lock in the best sites every time. Illinois state park campgrounds (Channahon, Des Plaines Conservation Area, Starved Rock, Kankakee River) take reservations through the Illinois DNR Camp Illinois system at camp.exploremoreil.com, and summer weekends at Starved Rock book out very quickly when the booking window opens. Indiana Dunes National Park sites release six months ahead on Recreation.gov. Private parks like Hollywood Casino Joliet RV Park and Leisure Lake Resort usually have more availability and accept bookings further out. Pro tip: for a July or August Crest Hill RV trip, set a calendar reminder for the day the booking window opens and reserve as soon as it goes live.
camp.exploremoreil.com/What are driving conditions like around Crest Hill?
Driving an RV around Crest Hill is very manageable, the terrain is flat, roads are wide, and there are no mountain passes anywhere in northern Illinois. The main things to know: I-55 and I-80 intersect just south of Crest Hill and can get congested during Chicago rush hours (6 to 9 a.m. and 3 to 7 p.m.), so plan departures around them. Avoid driving large Class A motorhomes into downtown Chicago, the Loop has multiple low-clearance bridges under 13 feet on Lower Wacker and side streets. Winter (December to March) brings snow and ice, so most leisure rentals pause then. Pro tip: use the Illinois Tollway I-PASS or pay-by-plate, your host will tell you how their transponder is set up.
idot.illinois.gov/travel-information/roadway-information/indexWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Crest Hill?
You'll find a great mix of options. Most private parks within an hour of Crest Hill (Hollywood Casino Joliet RV Park, Leisure Lake, Fox Valley Shores) offer full hookups: 30/50 amp electric, water, sewer, plus Wi-Fi, laundry, showers, and a camp store. Illinois state parks like Channahon and Des Plaines Conservation Area typically have electric-only hookups with a central dump station and potable water fill stations near the entrance. Free dump stations are also available at Martin Campground in Rockdale and several Will County forest preserves. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving the campground each morning, dump stations get busy between 10 a.m. and noon on checkout days.
dnr.illinois.gov/parks.htmlWhat's actually inside the RV I'm renting?
More comfort than you might expect. A typical Crest Hill RV rental includes a queen or king bed, additional sleeping for 2 to 6 people on convertible dinettes and bunks, a full kitchen (stove, oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, sink, cookware), a bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning, furnace heat, and seatbelts for every traveling passenger. Most Class C motorhomes and travel trailers also include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, awning, and outdoor camp chairs. Wi-Fi and onboard generators are common add-ons, ask the host. Pro tip: when comparing a campervan rental in Crest Hill versus a Class C, the campervan is easier to drive but the Class C sleeps more, choose based on your group size.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons can I get, and how does pickup and drop-off work?
Hosts make trip prep simple. Common add-ons in Crest Hill include linen and towel packages ($30 to $75), kitchen kits ($25 to $50), camp chairs and outdoor rugs, bikes, kayaks, generators ($25 to $50 per day), and propane fills. Pickup typically happens at the host location in Crest Hill, Joliet, Shorewood, or Plainfield in the early afternoon, with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough included. Drop-off is usually by late morning with the RV cleaned, gray and black tanks dumped, and fuel topped off (or pay the host a fueling fee). Pro tip: ask about delivery to your campground, a $75 to $150 delivery fee is often cheaper than a stressful first solo drive.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Crest%20Hill%2C%20IllinoisHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never in cash to the host. A portion is charged at booking, with the balance due before the trip. The security deposit is handled separately from your booking payment and is pre-authorized on your card before pickup, then released after return once the RV is checked in clean and undamaged. To avoid any deposit issues: take date-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off, dump the tanks, refill fuel and propane, and return on time. Pro tip: a quick walk-around video with your host on day one is the single best deposit-protection move you can make.
