Wonderful across the board. The RV was clean, drove perfectly (mountains of Colorado and New Mexico), and was impeccably organized. They have clearly thought through all the things that might be needed on a long trip and made them easily accessible. The toilet cassette was easy to empty (particularly in a latrine -- 3-5 minutes with no mess). The refrigerator and cabinets have plenty of space and beds were comfortable. It was easy to stop and sleep overnight in parks. We were really pleased and would happily rent this RV again.

What kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Romeoville?

Good news: for the vast majority of RV rentals in Romeoville, a regular driver's license is all you need. Illinois exempts personal-use recreational vehicles from Commercial Driver's License (CDL) requirements, so motorhomes, travel trailers, and campervans rented for your own road trip are covered by your standard license. You'll need to be 25 or older to book on RVezy, and the platform verifies your ID digitally before pickup, so there's no extra paperwork at the host's driveway. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you're set to rent an RV in Romeoville with confidence.

Can the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Romeoville?

Yes, RV delivery Romeoville hosts often offer is one of the easiest ways to skip the stress of driving a big rig for the first time. Delivery fees usually scale with distance, so picking a campground within 20 to 30 miles of Romeoville keeps costs reasonable. When is the best time of year for RV camping in Romeoville?

Late April through mid-October is the sweet spot for RV camping Romeoville locals love, with the peak being June, July, and August when daytime highs sit around 80 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit. May and September are the smart-money shoulder months: temperatures hover in the mid-60s to mid-70s, campgrounds are noticeably quieter, and host rates often drop. Early fall delivers spectacular foliage at Starved Rock and along the I and M Canal. Winters get genuinely cold (January highs average around 31 degrees Fahrenheit with snow), so a winterized rig and heated tanks are must-haves if you are booking December through February. Pro tip: book Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day weekends at least two months ahead.

I have never rented an RV before. Will the host help me figure it out?

Yes, first time renting an RV is genuinely fun on RVezy because every host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup. They walk you through starting the generator, dumping the tanks, leveling, connecting shore power, operating the propane stove, and using the awning, so you leave feeling capable. Many Romeoville-area hosts also send a quick walkthrough video before your trip and stay reachable by text throughout. If you are nervous about driving in the Chicago metro, ask about delivery so the RV meets you at a campground outside the city. Pro tip: save your host's number and snap photos of every system during the walkthrough, you will thank yourself on night one.

Pro tip: save the roadside number and your host's number in your phone before leaving Romeoville, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN on the dash for fast service.

Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and protection plan, so message the host directly before booking to confirm. What kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?

Budgeting fuel for your Romeoville RV trip is straightforward once you know the ballpark. Class B campervans typically get 16 to 20 miles per gallon, Class C motorhomes around 8 to 12 mpg, and Class A motorhomes 6 to 10 mpg, while a truck towing a travel trailer usually lands at 10 to 14 mpg. Illinois gas prices generally run a bit above the national average, with stations along I-55 and I-80 near Romeoville often a few cents cheaper than downtown Chicago. For a typical 4-day trip covering 400 miles in a Class C, plan roughly $150 to $200 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at Joliet or Bolingbrook truck stops where pumps fit RVs comfortably.

Hollywood Casino RV Resort and private parks like Leisure Lake also book up fast for summer Saturdays. Aim to reserve 2 to 6 months ahead for peak season and 2 to 4 weeks ahead for shoulder season. Pro tip: if your dates are flexible, Sunday through Thursday arrivals dramatically increase your odds of grabbing a premium electric site, plus rates are usually lower.

What are driving conditions like around Romeoville?

Romeoville sits at a convenient crossroads of I-55, I-355, and I-80, so getting in and out is easy, but a few local tips will make your motorhome rental Romeoville drive smooth. Avoid downtown Chicago in an RV (low clearances on Lake Shore Drive and Lower Wacker can be tight) and stick to the outer beltway I-355 or I-294 instead. Rush-hour traffic on I-55 northbound into the city peaks 6 to 9 a.m. weekdays, so plan early-morning or late-morning departures. Winter brings snow and occasional ice from December through February, while summer thunderstorms can pop up fast. Pro tip: a quick check of the National Weather Service Chicago office (located in Romeoville at 250 George J Michas Dr) before heading out keeps surprises to a minimum.
weather.gov/lot/

What amenities and hookups will I find at campgrounds near Romeoville?

Campgrounds near Romeoville are well-equipped for a comfortable stay. Most RV parks in the area, including Hollywood Casino RV Resort in Joliet and Leisure Lake, offer full hookups (water, 30 or 50 amp electric, and sewer) plus on-site dump stations, potable water fill, laundry, and shower houses. State park campgrounds like Starved Rock provide Class A premium sites with 30 and 50 amp electric hookups, a centralized dump station, and water hydrants throughout, though no individual sewer hookups. Channahon State Park is more primitive, ideal for self-contained RVs. Pro tip: keep a 25-foot drinking-water hose, a 30-to-50 amp dogbone adapter, and a sewer hose kit in the rig (most hosts already provide these) so you are ready for any setup in northern Illinois.
dnr.illinois.gov/parks/park.starvedrock.html

A typical motorhome rental Romeoville hosts list includes a queen or king bed, a convertible dinette and sofa that sleep 2 to 4 more people, a full kitchen with fridge, freezer, microwave, propane stove, and sink, plus a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower. Most rigs include air conditioning, a furnace, a TV, and a generator or solar setup for off-grid power. Many hosts add Wi-Fi hotspots, outdoor speakers, awnings with LED lights, and stocked kitchens. Every passenger has a seatbelt while driving (check the listing for seated and sleeping capacity). Pro tip: campervan rental Romeoville options are perfect for couples wanting nimble adventures, while Class C is the family favorite.

Plenty, and most are worth the small fee for a family RV trip Romeoville parents will appreciate. Common add-ons include linen and bedding packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits with pots, plates, and utensils ($25 to $50), outdoor camping kits with chairs and a propane fire pit ($25 to $50), bike racks, generators, and Wi-Fi hotspots. Many hosts also offer delivery and setup, often around $2 to $4 per mile from Romeoville. Pickup and drop-off are typically at the host's home, with a 30 to 60 minute orientation built in. Payment is simple and secure. When you book an RV rental in Romeoville on RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card (no cash to the host), and your trip cost plus the protection plan is processed at booking. The security deposit is held separately, typically as a temporary hold on your card before pickup, and is released after the trip wraps up cleanly. Deposit amounts vary by RV class and host. To avoid issues, document the RV's exterior, interior, and tank levels with photos at pickup and again at return. Pro tip: return the rig with a clean interior and at the agreed fuel and propane level for a hassle-free deposit refund.

Is winter RV rental in Romeoville possible?

Yes, winter RV rentals in Romeoville are doable and can be a memorable adventure if you embrace the season. Some hosts keep their rigs available year-round, especially four-season RVs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and reliable propane furnaces, which handle Illinois winters where January highs average around 31 degrees Fahrenheit and overnight lows can dip into the single digits. Starved Rock State Park stays open year-round, offering frozen-canyon hikes and ice formations you will not see anywhere else nearby. Look for listings tagged as four-season or winter-ready and confirm with the host that the rig has been prepared for cold-weather use. Pro tip: book a campground with full electric hookups so you can run the furnace without draining batteries.
