Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Laurel, MD

How much does an RV rental in Laurel, MD cost?

An RV rental in Laurel typically runs between $95 and $250 per night, depending on the size and age of the rig. Compact campervans and travel trailers sit at the lower end, while larger Class A motorhomes that sleep the whole family land closer to the top. To find a cheap RV rental in Laurel, search midweek dates outside summer holidays, filter by travel trailers (often the best value), and book 2 to 3 months ahead for peak May through October weekends. Pro tip: Laurel sits right between Washington, DC and Baltimore, so prices can spike around cherry blossom season in late March and early April. Lock in those dates early for the best rates.

Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Laurel, Maryland?

Good news: for the vast majority of RVs you can rent in Laurel, your regular driver's license is all you need. Maryland's Motor Vehicle Administration only requires a non-commercial Class B license for motorhomes with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating over 26,000 pounds, which is well above what most Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, travel trailers, and fifth wheels weigh. You'll also need to be at least 25 years old to rent on RVezy, and your ID is verified through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home country license plus an International Driving Permit and you're ready to roll.

Can the RV be delivered to me in Laurel?

Yes, RV delivery in Laurel is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer for first-time renters. Many hosts will drive the RV straight to your driveway or your campground at Greenbelt Park or Cherry Hill Park. They'll level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. That means zero stress about maneuvering a big rig through Laurel's busy Route 1 corridor or the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. Just filter listings by Delivery, confirm the distance fee with the host, and start your trip relaxed.

Where are the best campgrounds near Laurel, MD?

Laurel is surrounded by excellent options for RV camping. Greenbelt Park (National Park Service, about 12 miles south) offers 172 wooded sites with showers, flush toilets, and a dump station, and is just a short drive from the National Mall. Cherry Hill Park in College Park is a full-hookup resort with a pool and DC shuttle. Ramblin' Pines Family Campground in Woodbine and Adventure Bound Camping Resort Washington DC in Rosedale round out the local choices. Pro tip: book Greenbelt up to 6 months ahead on Recreation.gov for spring and fall weekends.

When is the best time of year for RV camping in Laurel?

Laurel has a humid subtropical climate, which means you've got a long sweet spot for camping. Late April through mid-June is arguably the best window, with daytime highs in the 70s and low 80s, blooming dogwoods, and lower humidity. September and October are equally lovely, with fall foliage peaking in mid-to-late October and crisp 60 to 70 degree days. July and August get hot and humid (highs in the upper 80s with afternoon thunderstorms), so an RV with strong air conditioning is a must. Winter camping is genuinely doable too: Greenbelt Park stays open year-round, and a heated RV with shore power makes for a quiet, crowd-free Capital Region escape.

I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?

You've got this, and Laurel is a friendlier launchpad than most. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate the generator, slides, water systems, and dump valves before you ever turn the key. If you're nervous about your first time renting an RV, choose a Class C motorhome or travel trailer (easier to drive than a 35-foot Class A), or book a host who offers delivery so the rig is already set up when you arrive. Stick to highways like I-95 and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway for the first stretch, and avoid downtown DC. The host's number is in your phone, and RVezy support is available when you need it.

What if something breaks down during my trip?

Breathe easy: every RV rental in Laurel, MD on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is always one call away. Whether it's a flat tire on the Capital Beltway, a generator that won't start at Cherry Hill Park, or a fridge acting up halfway to Assateague, the roadside team will dispatch service to your location. Your host is also a direct lifeline: most are local to the Laurel area and can talk you through quirks of their specific rig. Save both numbers in your phone at pickup. The vast majority of trips go off without a hitch, but it's nice to know the safety net is there.

Can I take my Laurel RV rental across state lines or into Canada?

Yes, interstate travel is totally fine for your Laurel RV trip. From here you can roll into Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware, West Virginia, or up to New York and New England without any extra paperwork. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed depending on the specific host and the protection plan coverage, so message the host directly from the listing before booking to confirm. One firm rule: travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because the protection coverage does not extend there. Popular multi-state routes from Laurel include Skyline Drive through Shenandoah and a New England fall foliage loop up I-95.

How much should I budget for fuel on a Laurel RV trip?

Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, so it's smart to plan ahead. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class A motorhomes run 6 to 10 MPG, and a truck towing a travel trailer often lands in the 10 to 14 MPG range. Maryland gas prices tend to sit close to the national average, and diesel is usually 30 to 60 cents more per gallon than regular gas. For a 500-mile round trip from Laurel to Assateague and back in a Class C, budget roughly $150 to $200 in fuel. Pro tip: warehouse club stations in Beltsville and the Wawa stations along Route 198 usually have the best prices in the area.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Laurel?

For the best campgrounds near Laurel, book early. Greenbelt Park (National Park Service) opens reservations 6 months ahead on Recreation.gov and fills fast for spring weekends, cherry blossom season, and holiday weekends. Maryland State Park sites (think Patapsco Valley, Cunningham Falls, Greenbrier) are reservable through the Maryland DNR system at parkreservations.maryland.gov, with minimum-night requirements on summer and holiday weekends. Private parks like Cherry Hill Park and Ramblin' Pines also book months out for prime dates. Insider tip: midweek arrivals (Sunday through Thursday) almost always have availability, even in peak summer, and the rates are often lower too.

What are the driving conditions like around Laurel?

Laurel sits right in the busy I-95 and Baltimore-Washington Parkway corridor, so traffic is the main thing to plan around. Avoid the Capital Beltway between 6 to 9 AM and 3 to 7 PM on weekdays, and skip the Bay Bridge (US-50) on Friday afternoons heading to the beach. The Baltimore-Washington Parkway (MD-295) bans commercial vehicles but most RVs are fine, just watch low overpass clearances on a few sections. Roads are well-maintained, flat to gently rolling, and there are no mountain passes to worry about until you head west toward Frederick. Pro tip: leave Laurel before 9 AM or after 7 PM for a smooth start to your trip.

What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Laurel?

Campgrounds near Laurel range from full-hookup resorts to primitive National Park Service sites, so you can pick what fits your trip. Cherry Hill Park has full water, electric, and sewer at every site, plus a pool, dog park, and DC shuttle. Greenbelt Park is primitive (no hookups) but has flush toilets, hot showers, drinking water spigots, and an on-site dump station. Most Maryland State Parks offer electric hookups with a central dump station and water fill. To dump tanks between trips, the Maryland House and Chesapeake House service plazas on I-95 both have RV dump stations. Pro tip: top off freshwater before leaving any campground, since fill stations in the metro area can be hit-or-miss.

What's actually inside a typical Laurel RV rental?

A typical motorhome rental in Laurel comes ready to live in. Expect a queen or king bed in the main sleeping area, convertible dinettes and sofas that sleep 2 to 4 more, a full kitchen with fridge, freezer, propane stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, plus a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower. Air conditioning and a propane furnace are standard, which matters in Laurel's hot summers and chilly winters. Most rigs include a TV, and many hosts add WiFi hotspots, outdoor speakers, or a backup generator. Class B campervans are more compact but still cleverly outfitted. Every listing on RVezy spells out exactly what's included, with photos of every corner.

What add-ons and pickup options should I know about?

Hosts in Laurel offer a great mix of add-ons to customize your trip. Popular extras include camping chair and table kits, linen and kitchen packages, bikes, kayaks, generators, propane refills, and pet packages. Delivery is the most-loved add-on for campervan rental Laurel travelers, with fees typically based on distance from the host's home base. Mileage policies vary: some hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, others offer unlimited mileage for a flat add-on. Pickup is usually at the host's home in the greater Laurel area, with a 60 to 90 minute walkthrough. Read each listing carefully, then book the rig that fits your plan perfectly.

How do payments and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment on RVezy is straightforward and secure: you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card when you book, so there's no cash changing hands at pickup. A refundable security deposit is held on your card during your trip (the amount is shown on the listing before you book) and is released after the host inspects the RV at return, assuming no damage or major cleaning is needed. To avoid issues, take a quick video walkaround at pickup and dropoff, return the RV with the same fuel and propane level as you got it, and dump the tanks if your contract requires it. That way your deposit comes right back, ready for your next Laurel RV trip.

What's a great first weekend trip from Laurel?

For a perfect first RV road trip from Laurel, point the rig east toward Assateague Island National Seashore, about 130 miles away on US-50. You'll camp among wild ponies on the Atlantic shore, with oceanfront and bayside sites, hot showers, and a dump station. On the way back, swing through historic Annapolis (about 30 miles from Laurel) for crab cakes on the waterfront. Prefer mountains? Head about 90 miles west to Cunningham Falls State Park near Thurmont for Maryland's tallest cascading waterfall and shaded sites with electric hookups. Insider tip: Patuxent Research Refuge right in Laurel offers thousands of acres of free hiking and birding, perfect for a shakedown day before you hit the road.
