2021 Heartland Travel Trailer
We’ve not rented a RV in the past. The entire experience of renting the Yankee Traveler with Stu far exceeded our expectations. The RV was clean, spacious, and included everything we needed to make the most of our weekend camping trip. Stu was very prompt and kind in his responses via the RVezy app and the delivery process was quick. We’ll definitely rent with Stu and the Yankee Traveler next go around.

We had a great experience using the Yankee Traveler! Lisa and Stu were the greatest hosts, had it all set up for us when we got there, we could just move in and enjoy. The trailer was very well equipped, and we enjoyed being out in the woods. We highly recommend renting from them, and will use it again.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Kentwood, MI
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Kentwood, MI?
RV rental in Kentwood is an affordable way to explore West Michigan compared to flying or booking hotels for the family. On RVezy, motorhomes near Kentwood typically average around $200 per night, while towable trailers come in closer to $125 per night, and many hosts offer 10-20% discounts on weekly or monthly bookings. You can stretch your budget further by traveling mid-week, booking in May or September instead of peak July, and filtering for cheap RV rental Kentwood options like older travel trailers from owners who include delivery. Pro tip: factor in roughly $40-$60 per night for a campground site at places like Woodchip Campground in Byron Center, and you have a full vacation for less than a Lake Michigan hotel weekend.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Kentwood,%20MichiganWhat kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Kentwood, MI?
Good news: for nearly every RV on the platform, your regular Michigan (or out-of-state) driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Kentwood. Michigan does not require a special endorsement or commercial driver's license (CDL) to drive a Class B campervan, Class C motorhome, travel trailer, or fifth wheel under 26,000 pounds, which covers the vast majority of listings. RVezy approved drivers are generally required to be 25 or older, and your ID is verified inside the booking flow, so there is no DMV trip involved. The one quirky Michigan rule, a Recreational Double R endorsement, only applies if you are towing a fifth wheel plus a second trailer behind it, which is not something standard rentals do.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs RVezy insurance and roadside assistance included with my Kentwood RV rental?
Yes, every RV rental in Kentwood booked through RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built right in, so you are never stranded on US-131 or a back road near Gun Lake. The protection plan covers most damage to the RV and gives you real financial peace of mind. During checkout you choose your level of coverage, which lets you decide how much extra protection feels right for your Kentwood RV trip. If a tire blows on the way to Yankee Springs Recreation Area or the battery dies at Woodchip Campground, one call gets you help fast, which is exactly the kind of safety net first-time renters appreciate most.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Kentwood RV rental?
Booking an RV rental in Kentwood is genuinely low-risk because RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy across the platform. That means there is a defined grace period for full money-back cancellations after booking, plus additional refund tiers depending on how many days before your trip you cancel, which matters in a state where lake-effect snow can disrupt plans. You do not have to hunt through individual listings to compare policies; the same RVezy framework applies to every motorhome rental Kentwood guests book. If your host cancels, RVezy will refund you or provide travel credits so your trip can still happen. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best Gun Lake or Holland-area RVs, knowing you have a flexible window if plans shift.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Kentwood RV trip?
Absolutely, and West Michigan is a fantastic place to bring the pup. Plenty of hosts offer pet-friendly RV rental Kentwood options, and you can filter directly for Pet-Friendly listings on RVezy before you even message anyone. Once you are on the road, Michigan state parks like Yankee Springs Recreation Area welcome leashed dogs in campgrounds (6-foot leash rule), and Kentwood's own Old Farm Park along with the Paws Park dog park in nearby Grand Rapids give your dog room to stretch before a long drive. Sandy paws are welcome at most West Michigan beaches outside designated swimming areas too. Pro tip: message the host about any pet fee or cleaning expectations so check-out is breezy.
michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/state-parks/rules-regsCan the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Kentwood?
Yes, RV delivery Kentwood is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it is a game-changer if you are a first-time renter or just do not want to drive a 30-foot motorhome through I-96 traffic. Many Kentwood hosts will deliver the RV right to your driveway, a friend's place, or directly to campgrounds like Woodchip Campground in Byron Center, Hungry Horse in Dorr, or the Gun Lake campground at Yankee Springs Recreation Area. They will also level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every switch before they leave. Delivery fees are set by the host and typically depend on distance, so message a couple of listings to compare quotes for your specific spot.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Kentwood,%20MichiganHow far can I drive on a Kentwood RV trip, and is unlimited mileage available?
You have serious range from Kentwood, and yes, many hosts on RVezy offer RV rental with unlimited mileage or generous daily mileage allowances, listed clearly on each listing page. From Kentwood, Holland State Park and the Lake Michigan beaches are about 40 minutes west, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is roughly 2.5 hours north, Traverse City wine country sits about 2.5 to 3 hours north, and Mackinaw City for the bridge crossing is about 4 hours away. Filter by mileage policy when comparing rentals, and if you are planning a longer Michigan loop, message the host to see if they will bundle extra miles into the daily rate. Pro tip: budget extra mileage for unplanned detours to lakeshores you will inevitably want to chase.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Kentwood,%20MichiganWhere are the best campgrounds near Kentwood, MI?
You are spoiled for choice for best campgrounds near Kentwood. Woodchip Campground in Byron Center (about 15 minutes south) is a family favorite with a jumping pillow and themed weekend activities. Hungry Horse Family Campground in Dorr offers wooded sites, themed weekends, and a relaxed family vibe. Yankee Springs Recreation Area on Gun Lake has modern electric sites plus a sandy beach, about 35 minutes from Kentwood. Indian Valley Campground in Middleville pairs hookups with canoe and kayak rentals on the Thornapple River. For a resort feel, Sun Retreats Gun Lake (formerly Hidden Ridge RV Resort) is a gated park near Gun Lake Casino. Book early for July and August weekends, when waterfront sites disappear fast.
midnrreservations.com/When is the best time to visit Kentwood, MI for an RV trip?
The sweet spot for RV camping Kentwood is late May through early October, when daytime highs run from the mid-60s to the low 80s and the surrounding lakes and dunes are at their best. July and August are peak summer with average highs around 79°F and warm Lake Michigan swimming, while September delivers crisp mornings, smaller crowds, and unbeatable rates. Don't sleep on early October either, when West Michigan's maples explode into color along the Fred Meijer trails and through Yankee Springs. Winter Kentwood RV trips are possible with cold-weather rigs, but expect snow and average highs near 30°F from December through February. Pro tip: book mid-week in late September for the best combination of weather, price, and availability.
weather.gov/grr/I've never driven an RV before. How will I learn before my Kentwood trip?
First time renting an RV is a lot less intimidating than it looks, especially in Kentwood where most hosts go out of their way to set you up for success. Every booking includes a hands-on walkthrough at pickup (or at delivery) covering everything from leveling jacks and slide-outs to dumping the holding tanks and starting the propane fridge. Many Kentwood hosts steer first-timers toward Class C motorhomes or smaller travel trailers, which drive a lot like a big pickup. You can also message the host through the listing before booking with any specific questions about driving on US-131 or maneuvering into Yankee Springs sites. Pro tip: pick a quieter campground for night one so you are not parallel-backing under pressure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002558093-For-GuestsWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You are covered. Every RV rental in Kentwood MI booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on M-6, a dead battery at Woodchip Campground, or a lockout in the Meijer Gardens parking lot is a single phone call away from help. Your host is also typically reachable directly for quick questions about quirky features (like which switch runs the water pump), and RVezy's customer support team is there before, during, and after every trip. Pro tip: snap a quick photo of the RV's VIN and policy info at pickup and keep it in your phone. You probably will not need it, but it makes any call faster.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Kentwood RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is generally welcomed on RVezy rentals, which is great because Kentwood sits within easy reach of multiple states. Popular RV road trip from Kentwood routes include Indiana Dunes National Park (about 2.5 hours southwest), the Chicago area (about 3 hours), and the Wisconsin Dells (about 6 hours). Travel into Canada (think Niagara Falls or Ontario's Bruce Peninsula, about 5-6 hours via the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron) is allowed on many listings but depends on the host's approval and insurance, so confirm before booking. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental due to insurance coverage limitations. Pro tip: keep your passport handy if Canada is even a maybe.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for my Kentwood RV trip?
Realistic fuel planning makes a Kentwood RV trip way less stressful. Class C motorhomes typically get 8-12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class A motorhomes around 6-10 MPG, Class B campervans 18-22 MPG, and towable trailers depend entirely on your tow vehicle. Michigan's average gas price tends to track close to the national average, and Kentwood has plenty of high-volume stations along 28th Street SE and Division Avenue with competitive pricing. Budget roughly $80-$120 in fuel for a weekend trip to Holland or Gun Lake, and more like $250-$400 for a Sleeping Bear Dunes loop. Pro tip: fill up in Kentwood or Wyoming before heading north, where rural gas stations near Cadillac and Traverse City often run 20-30 cents higher per gallon.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Kentwood?
For Michigan state parks like Yankee Springs Recreation Area, Holland State Park, and Muskegon State Park, reservations open six months in advance through the Michigan DNR system at MiDNRReservations.com, and prime summer weekends on Gun Lake and the Lake Michigan shoreline genuinely sell out within minutes of the booking window opening. For private parks like Woodchip Campground or Sun Retreats Gun Lake, aim for 2-3 months ahead for July and August stays. Do not forget the annual Recreation Passport (currently $14 for Michigan-plated vehicles, with a higher daily/annual fee for non-residents) for state park entry. Pro tip: weekday arrivals are far easier to snag than Friday nights, and many hosts will deliver to whichever site you score.
midnrreservations.com/What are the driving conditions like in and around Kentwood?
Kentwood is one of the easier metro launching pads in Michigan for an RV rental. The major arteries (I-96, M-6, US-131, and 28th Street SE) are wide, well-maintained, and have plenty of truck-friendly clearance. Avoid driving a tall Class A through downtown Grand Rapids' parking ramps and the Heritage Hill area, which has narrow residential streets. Watch for lake-effect snow squalls from November through March that can cut visibility fast, especially heading west toward Holland on I-196. Summer thunderstorms can roll through quickly off Lake Michigan, so check the forecast before climbing into the driver's seat. Pro tip: avoid the I-96/US-131 interchange during Grand Rapids' 4-6 p.m. rush hour, when an RV's slower acceleration feels especially exposed.
mdotjboss.state.mi.us/MiDrive/mapWhat amenities do campgrounds near Kentwood offer, and where can I dump or fill water?
Campgrounds near Kentwood are well-equipped for a smooth RV camping Kentwood experience. Most modern campgrounds like Yankee Springs at Gun Lake (electric sites available), Woodchip Campground (full hookups and a dump station), and Sun Retreats Gun Lake (water, sewer, and 50-amp service at many sites) offer flush toilets, hot showers, and laundry. For dump stations and water fills outside campgrounds, Camping World of Grand Rapids on 28th Street and several private campgrounds in the area can serve travelers, often for a small fee even if you are not staying. Michigan state parks typically include sanitation stations near the campground exit. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving Kentwood since rural well water can taste mineral-heavy, and dump tanks the morning of checkout to avoid the post-3 p.m. line.
midnrreservations.com/What features and amenities will my Kentwood RV rental have?
You will find that Kentwood RV rentals come well-stocked for a comfortable Michigan trip. Expect real beds (most sleep 4-8), a working kitchen with stove, fridge, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, propane furnace and air conditioning, and seatbelts for everyone riding while in motion. Many listings include a TV, generator for off-grid power, and Bluetooth stereo, and a growing number offer Wi-Fi hotspots or Starlink, especially helpful in cellular dead zones around Yankee Springs. Campervan rental Kentwood options (Class B) trade space for easier driving and better fuel economy. Check each listing's amenity list and message the host if a generator or specific bed configuration is must-have for your family RV trip Kentwood.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Kentwood,%20MichiganWhat add-ons and pickup options should I expect when I rent an RV in Kentwood?
Hosts in Kentwood typically offer a menu of helpful add-ons that turn a basic rental into a turnkey trip. Common options include bedding and linen packages, kitchen kits, bike racks, generators, propane refills, camp chairs, outdoor mats, and even kayaks or paddleboards for your Gun Lake adventure. Pickup is usually at the host's home in the greater Grand Rapids area, with delivery available to local campgrounds or your driveway for an additional fee based on distance. Mileage policies vary, some unlimited, others 100-150 miles per day with reasonable per-mile overage. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a linen kit if it is your first trip, you will save easily an hour of work at both ends.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Kentwood,%20MichiganHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled through the RVezy platform, no cash, no transfers to a stranger. You pay your rental total securely online when you book, which covers the nightly rate, RVezy service fee, and your chosen protection plan. A refundable security deposit is held separately on your card before pickup to cover potential incidentals, and it is released after the trip wraps up clean. To avoid hold-ups, do a thorough walkaround with the host at both pickup and drop-off, take date-stamped photos, return the RV at the agreed fuel and propane levels, and dump the tanks if your host requires it. Pro tip: keep all receipts for dump fees or propane, hosts often reimburse those.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park an RV in Kentwood between trips or overnight?
Knowing where to park an RV in Kentwood saves a lot of hassle. Kentwood city ordinance generally allows residents to park an RV in their own driveway for a short window before and after a trip for loading, cleaning, and unloading, with longer-term storage typically required in the rear yard. RVs are not permitted to be parked on public streets or right-of-ways in Kentwood. For overnight travelers, Michigan rest areas along I-96 and US-131 generally permit overnight rest in your vehicle when no signs prohibit it, and the Cabela's in Grandville and several local Walmarts have historically been RV-friendly, though it is best to confirm with the manager. Pro tip: have delivery handled by your host if storage at home is tight.
