2016 Venture RV Travel Trailer
We had a fantastic 6-night stay in this trailer and would highly recommend it to other families! The space was impressively roomy, which made it really comfortable for our family of five. The bunk area was perfect for our three kids—they loved having their own cozy spot to relax and sleep. The A/C was a lifesaver during the hot days, keeping the interior cool and comfortable. We also really appreciated the blackout blinds, which helped everyone sleep in a bit in the mornings. One of our favorite features was the outdoor kitchen. It made meal prep easy and enjoyable, especially in the evenings when we could cook and eat outside. Everything was well-maintained and thoughtfully set up for guests. Overall, it was a great experience and we’d definitely rent again! Thanks Kurtis!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Richmond, MI

How much does an RV rental in Richmond, MI typically cost?

On RVezy, expect roughly $95 to $175 per night for a travel trailer, $150 to $260 per night for a Class C motorhome, and $200 to $375 per night for a larger Class A, before fees and your chosen protection plan. Cheap RV rental options in Richmond pop up most often in the shoulder seasons (late April through May, and again in September and October), when nightly rates drop and campgrounds along the St. Clair River are quieter. What license do I need to rent an RV in Richmond, MI?

Good news: a standard driver's license from your home state, province, or country is all you need to rent an RV in Richmond, MI. There's no special RV endorsement or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required for the motorhomes, travel trailers, and campervans listed on RVezy. To be an approved driver on RVezy, you generally need to be at least 25 years old and pass a quick identity and driving record check completed through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP). With that handled, you're ready to point the RV toward Lake Huron.

When is the best time of year for RV camping in Richmond, MI?

The sweet spot for RV camping Richmond MI runs from mid-May through mid-October, when daytime highs climb from the comfortable 60s into the warm upper 70s and low 80s in July (Richmond's warmest month averages about 78°F). Summer is peak season with festivals like the Richmond Good Old Days celebration drawing crowds. Can I drive my Richmond, MI RV rental into Canada?

Often yes, with a quick conversation. Richmond sits just 25 miles from the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron, the gateway to Sarnia, Ontario, so cross-border RV trips are popular. Many RVezy hosts allow Canadian travel as long as you let them know in advance, since the protection plan needs to be confirmed valid for cross-border use. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Message the host directly through the listing before you book to confirm Canada is approved for your trip. Pro tip: bring your passport (or enhanced license), pet vaccination records if you're bringing a dog, and check Canada Border Services Agency rules on food and alcohol before you cross.

What kind of fuel economy should I expect, and how should I budget for gas?

Plan smart and fuel costs stay reasonable. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves, but your tow vehicle's MPG typically drops 25-40% while towing. Class B campervans average 18-22 MPG, Class C motorhomes 8-12 MPG, and Class A motorhomes 6-10 MPG. Michigan gas prices in the Richmond area generally track close to the state average (often $3.20-$3.60 per gallon), and the Speedway and Mobil stations along M-19 and 32 Mile Road are easy to access with a big rig. For a 300-mile weekend loop in a Class C, budget roughly $90-$130 in fuel. Pro tip: use the GasBuddy app to find the cheapest stations along your route, and fill up in Richmond before heading north where prices climb.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Richmond, MI?

Earlier is better, but you have options. Michigan state parks like Algonac and Lakeport open reservations exactly 6 months in advance through the Michigan DNR's online system, and prime summer weekends (especially July 4th and Labor Day) often fill the day the booking window opens. For private parks like Port Huron KOA or Wesleyan Woods, aim for 2-3 months ahead for summer weekends, or 2-3 weeks for shoulder-season trips. Mid-week stays are far easier to grab last minute. Pro tip: create a Michigan DNR account before your booking date and have your site numbers picked out, then refresh at exactly 8 a.m. on the morning your dates open, you'll snag the lakefront site every time.

What are driving conditions like around Richmond, MI?

Driving an RV around Richmond is refreshingly easy. The town sits at the intersection of M-19 and Division Road in flat, rural Macomb County, with wide rural roads, generous shoulders, and minimal traffic outside of weekday rush in nearby Detroit suburbs. Watch for the occasional low-clearance railroad underpass on older county roads (most RVs clear 12-13 feet without issue), and stay alert for deer at dawn and dusk, especially along 32 Mile and 33 Mile Roads. In winter, lake-effect snow off Lake Huron can make M-25 north of Port Huron slick, so check MDOT's Mi Drive map before heading out. Pro tip: avoid downtown Detroit at rush hour. From Richmond, the I-94 to I-696 loop after 6 p.m. saves serious stress.
mdotjboss.state.mi.us/MiDrive/map

What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Richmond, MI?

You'll find a great range. Michigan state parks like Algonac and Lakeport offer modern campgrounds with 30/50-amp electric hookups, potable water spigots, flush toilets, hot showers, and on-site dump stations, though water hookups at the site itself are less common. Private parks like Port Huron KOA and Wesleyan Woods step it up with full hookups (water, sewer, electric), Wi-Fi, pools, and laundry. Need a dump station in a pinch? The Algonac State Park dump is open seasonally to non-campers for a small fee. Pro tip: top off your fresh water tank in Richmond before you leave, the city water is excellent, and you'll save time at the campground for actually enjoying the lake.

What's actually inside the RV when I pick it up?

More comforts than you'd guess. A typical Richmond, MI RV rental on RVezy comes ready to camp with sleeping for 4-8 (queen beds, bunks, and convertible dinettes), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and basic cookware, a wet or dry bathroom with toilet and shower, climate control (roof A/C and propane furnace), and seatbelted seating for travel. Most hosts include linens, towels, and a starter kit of paper goods, while many add a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and an onboard generator or solar setup. Wi-Fi varies by host. Pro tip: check the listing's amenities list and message the host to confirm what's included versus what's an add-on, that way you don't double-pack the camp chairs.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safety

What add-ons can I get with my campervan rental Richmond MI?

Plenty of ways to customize. Popular add-ons on RVezy include camping chairs and tables ($15-$30 per trip), bike racks, kayaks or SUPs, generators for off-grid stays, propane fire pits, linen/bedding packages, and kitchen kits. Many hosts offering campervan rental Richmond MI also offer delivery (often $2-$4 per mile from their base), early pickup, late return, and pet cleaning packages. Pickup is usually at the host's home, with a 30-60 minute walkthrough; return is the same location unless you've arranged delivery. Mileage allowances vary, so check the listing. Pro tip: bundle the bike rack and a generator if you're heading to Algonac or Lakeport, you'll want both for the bike paths and for keeping the A/C running on hot July afternoons.
michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/biking

How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment is straightforward and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform when you book (never directly to the host in cash), using a credit or debit card. Your booking total includes the nightly rate, cleaning fee, any add-ons, taxes, and your chosen protection plan. The security deposit is separate from your booking payment and is held as a pre-authorization on your card shortly before your trip starts, with the amount depending on the RV and the protection plan you select. As long as you return the rig in the same condition and follow the listing's terms, the hold is released after your trip. Pro tip: take dated photos and a short video of the RV's interior and exterior at both pickup and drop-off, it's the single best way to keep your deposit refund quick and drama-free.

What's a great first RV road trip from Richmond, MI?

You've got fantastic options for an RV road trip from Richmond. A classic 3-day loop heads north on M-19 to Lexington and Port Sanilac (45 miles), continues up M-25 along the Lake Huron coast to Caseville and the Thumb (about 90 miles), then loops back via Bay City. For a longer trip, drive to Mackinaw City (about 260 miles north on I-75) for the Mackinac Bridge and ferries to Mackinac Island, or head west to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (about 285 miles) for jaw-dropping Lake Michigan views. Closer to home, the Detroit RiverWalk and Belle Isle are an easy 50-mile day trip south. Pro tip: a family RV trip Richmond MI sweet spot is the Thumb Coast, short drives, sandy beaches, and lighthouses every 20 miles.
