2023 Coleman Travel Trailer
The camper was clean, comfortable and was perfect for what was needed. They are very accommodating as Greg had to delivery one to a location almost two hours away one way. Then had to turn around and drop off to me which is around an hour. Every thing went smoothly, the generator starts on first pull and was great on gas. We were happy to have the camper on Thursday as it poured for part of the night. In the past when it rained we were in a tent. It was nice to be able to take a shower to get the dust off of me and sweat. Bed is super comfortable and the ac worked well but we only used it for a short time. All in all it was a great experience dealing with them. Will be looking forward to using them again next year.

Matt was incredible from start to finish. Replies almost immediately to all messages and questions from time of booking, leading up to the trip and during your trip. The RV was immaculate on the outside, the entire cabin, refrigerator, bathrooms, etc. And it came with everything we would need for the trip. Was our first time staying in an RV - Matt showed up promptly when he said he would (even earlier), set up everything for our stay and walked me through everything we needed to know to use and enjoy the RV for a week. I would highly recommend Matt to anyone and would certainly book with him again!

The RV is new and very clean. Maxime is a great host, super friendly and understanding when we were a little late to return it. Would definitely rent this RV again. I particularly liked the layout of the bathroom since it can be made into a very spacious bathroom which is rare in an RV. Great experience!

**5 Stars – The Little Ditty Was a Dream!** We had such an amazing experience renting *The Little Ditty*! The RV itself was adorable – clean, cozy, and stocked with everything we needed for a comfortable getaway. Whether we were camping by the coast or tucked into the trees, it felt like a perfect little home on wheels. But what truly made this rental stand out were Ryanna & Derek. They were absolutely fantastic from start to finish – incredibly helpful, friendly, and excellent communicators. They walked us through everything clearly, answered all our questions with patience, and made sure we felt completely confident and taken care of. Their kindness and attention to detail really made the whole experience smooth and stress-free. We can’t recommend *The Little Ditty* – and Ryanna & Derek – highly enough. If you’re looking for a unique RV adventure with awesome hosts, this is the one!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Fort Plain, NY

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Fort Plain, NY?

RV rental in Fort Plain, NY is surprisingly affordable compared to renting near a major metro. Motorhomes near Fort Plain average around $200 to $275 per night, while travel trailers and pop-ups typically range from $95 to $140 per night, and many hosts offer 10 to 20 percent discounts for weekly or monthly bookings. Mohawk Valley shoulder seasons (late April to mid-June and September to mid-October) usually bring the best rates. Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Fort Plain, NY?

Good news, your regular driver's license is all you need for virtually every RV rental in Fort Plain, NY. New York requires only a standard Class D license to operate any personal-use RV with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,000 pounds or less, which covers essentially every campervan, travel trailer, Class B, and Class C motorhome on RVezy. You must be 25 or older to book, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the platform. Visiting from abroad? Pick up an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country's auto association before you fly, pair it with your home license, and you're cleared to explore the Mohawk Valley.

Can I bring my dog on a Fort Plain RV trip?

Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Fort Plain is easy to find on RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see every host who welcomes four-legged co-pilots. Many Mohawk Valley owners are dog-lovers themselves and set reasonable pet fees rather than blanket no-pet rules. Once you arrive, your pup will love the Canalway Trail along the old Erie Canal, the open fields at Wintergreen Park in nearby Canajoharie, and the leash-friendly grounds of Fort Plain Museum and Historical Park. New York State Parks allow pets with a current rabies certificate, so bring that paperwork. Message your host before booking to confirm pet details and ask for their favorite local dog-friendly spot.

Shaul State Park is roughly 40 minutes southeast in Schoharie County with peaceful wooded sites; and Glimmerglass State Park near Cooperstown is consistently rated one of the best campgrounds near Fort Plain. What's the best time of year for an RV trip from Fort Plain, NY?

The sweet spot for an RV road trip from Fort Plain runs from late May through mid-October, with three distinct windows to choose from. June through August brings warm days in the high 70s to low 80s and lush green valleys, perfect for swimming at Glimmerglass and catching a Hall of Fame Induction Weekend in Cooperstown. Mid-September through mid-October is peak Mohawk Valley foliage, arguably the most beautiful time to be here, with crisp 50 to 65 degree days and far fewer crowds. Late April and May offer the cheapest rates and quieter campgrounds. Winters are cold (often in the teens and 20s with snow), so most private campgrounds close from late October to April.

I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving one around Fort Plain?

Yes, and first-time renters do this all the time in the Mohawk Valley. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering driving, leveling, propane, water, waste tanks, and the basics of campground setup, so you're never handed keys and left guessing. Fort Plain itself sits on quiet two-lane roads (Routes 5 and 5S along the Mohawk River) with very little traffic, making it one of the friendliest places in New York to learn. Stick with a Class C motorhome or a smaller travel trailer for your first time, drive at relaxed speeds, and remember the host is just a text away. Most first-time renters say the orientation alone makes the whole trip feel doable.

Whether you're dealing with a flat tire on the Thruway near Canajoharie, a dead battery at Glimmerglass State Park, or a tow situation deeper in the Adirondacks, the dispatch team will coordinate service to your exact location. Your host is also a direct text message away and usually responds quickly with troubleshooting tips for their specific RV. Pro tip: save the RVezy roadside number in your phone before pickup, and keep your reservation number handy so dispatch can move fast.

Can I take my Fort Plain rental RV across state lines or into Canada?

Cross-state travel is fine, your Fort Plain RV rental can roam freely across New York and into neighboring Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, which puts the Green Mountains, the Berkshires, and the Pocono Mountains all within easy reach. Canadian travel may be possible on some listings (the border crossing at Cornwall, Ontario is roughly 3 hours north) but it requires the host's approval and confirmation that the protection coverage extends across the border, so message the host before booking. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage don't extend there. For a classic regional loop, try Fort Plain to Lake Placid to Burlington, VT and back.

What kind of fuel mileage should I expect and what is gas costing around Fort Plain?

Budget realistically and you won't get surprised. Class C motorhomes near Fort Plain typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (mpg), Class B campervans land in the 15 to 20 mpg range, and travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves, your tow vehicle does, usually getting 10 to 14 mpg while towing. Gas stations are easy to find right off NY-5S in Fort Plain, Canajoharie, and St. Johnsville. Pro tip: fill up at the Thruway exits in Herkimer or Amsterdam before heading into the Adirondacks, where stations get sparser and pricier the deeper you go.

How far in advance should I book a campground near Fort Plain?

For the best campgrounds near Fort Plain, plan ahead, especially if your trip overlaps Cooperstown Hall of Fame Induction Weekend in late July, when sites within 30 miles fill up months in advance. New York State Parks like Glimmerglass and Max V. Shaul open reservations 9 months ahead through the official Reserve America system, and popular weekends genuinely sell out at the 9-month mark. Private campgrounds like Herkimer Diamond KOA usually book 2 to 4 months ahead for summer weekends. For shoulder-season trips in May or September, 2 to 3 weeks of lead time is usually plenty. Insider tip: midweek sites in the Mohawk Valley are far easier to grab than Friday and Saturday nights.

What are local driving conditions like around Fort Plain?

Driving an RV around Fort Plain is genuinely relaxed compared to most of New York. The village sits right between Albany and Utica on the New York State Thruway (I-90), with Exit 29A at Canajoharie just a few miles away. Local roads like NY-5 and NY-5S follow the Mohawk River with gentle grades and wide shoulders, perfect for first-time RVers. The main things to watch: low railroad bridges in older downtowns (always know your RV's height, usually 10 to 12 feet), winding climbs heading south toward Cherry Valley and the Catskills, and occasional winter snow squalls from November to March. Pro tip: avoid the Thruway at Friday rush hour near Albany if you can, leaving Fort Plain by 2 PM keeps the drive smooth.

What amenities will I find at campgrounds near Fort Plain?

Campgrounds near Fort Plain offer a great range of amenities for RV camping. Most private parks like Herkimer Diamond KOA, Cooperstown Shadow Brook, and Glampful provide full hookups (water, 30 or 50 amp electric, and sewer), Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, dump stations, and camp stores. New York State Parks like Glimmerglass and Max V. Shaul typically offer electric-only sites with shared dump stations and potable water fill stations, no sewer at the site but spotless restrooms. For free dump and water between trips, the Herkimer Diamond KOA and most KOA properties allow non-guests to dump for a small fee. Pro tip: check the campground's site map ahead of time so you know whether your site is back-in or pull-through.

What features and amenities are inside the rental RVs?

Today's RV rentals in Fort Plain come surprisingly well-equipped, especially the Class C motorhomes and modern travel trailers that dominate the local fleet. Expect a real bed (often a queen plus convertible dinette and bunks), a kitchen with a stove, fridge, microwave, and sink, a wet bath or full bathroom with shower and toilet, roof air conditioning, propane furnace, and seatbelts for everyone traveling in motorized units. Many hosts also include a TV, outdoor speakers, awning, and a generator for boondocking. Wi-Fi and cell coverage are solid along the Mohawk River corridor but spotty in the Adirondack foothills, so ask your host if they include a hotspot. Each listing page shows exactly what's included.

How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?

Payment on RVezy is straightforward and handled entirely through the platform, no cash, no awkward handoffs with your Fort Plain host. You'll pay your rental total upfront with a credit or debit card when you book, which locks in your dates. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment shortly before pickup and released after the trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape with the agreed mileage and a clean interior. To avoid issues, take date-stamped photos of the RV at pickup and drop-off, refill propane and the fuel tank to where it started, and follow the host's dump and cleaning instructions.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-works

Can I rent an RV in Fort Plain in winter, and is it worth it?

Yes, winter RV rental in Fort Plain is possible and can be a genuinely magical Mohawk Valley experience, though the options are more limited. Look for listings tagged as four-season or winter-ready, these RVs come with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and reliable propane furnaces to handle nights that often drop into the teens or single digits from December through February. Most private campgrounds close from late October to mid-April, but you can plug into shore power at parks that stay open and use the rig as a basecamp for nearby skiing or for snowshoeing the Canalway Trail. Pro tip: ask your host for cold-weather setup tips during the walkthrough, knowing how to protect the water lines makes all the difference.
