"Story" was a great RV and Joshua was an amazing host. This was our first time traveling in an RV and Joshua was very patient in answering all of our questions. He provided a very thorough orientation. The RV was fully equipped with everything we needed including kitchen/bath items, camping chairs, linens, etc. Everything was clean, well maintained, and exactly as described. We were able to boondock without any issues. Communication with Joshua was amazing and I highly recommend this rental.

ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/barkcamp-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Martins Ferry?
Late April through mid-October is the sweet spot for an RV road trip from Martins Ferry, with summer highs in the low to mid 80s°F and comfortable overnight lows in the 60s. Spring brings wildflowers and Ohio River views but can be rainy, May averages the most rainfall of any month here. The real local secret is fall: late September into mid-October delivers crisp 60-70°F days and spectacular Appalachian foliage along Route 7 and through Wayne National Forest. Winters are cold and snowy (January lows around 21°F), so most campgrounds operate April through October, though Barkcamp State Park stays open year-round with limited services for adventurous winter campers.
weather.gov/pbz/I've never rented an RV before. How does it work?
First time renting an RV? You're going to love how guided the RVezy process is. After you book, you can message your host directly with any questions, then at pickup (or delivery) they'll give you a full walkthrough of the rig: how to operate the propane, slide-outs, water systems, generator, awning, and everything else. Most Martins Ferry hosts are seasoned RVers who genuinely want your trip to go well, and they'll share their favorite local stops, often Barkcamp State Park or scenic drives along Ohio Route 7. Plus, you've got 24/7 roadside assistance and RVezy support before, during, and after your trip. Start with a shorter rig if you're nervous about driving, then plan a relaxed first night close to home.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/barkcamp-state-parkWhat happens if my RV breaks down during the trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so if you get a flat tire on I-70, a dead battery at Barkcamp State Park, or a mechanical issue heading toward Wheeling, help is one phone call away. Your host is also typically just a text away and knows the rig inside and out, often the fastest way to troubleshoot small issues like a tripped breaker or a finicky water pump. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip too. Pro tip: save the roadside number in your phone before you pull out of the driveway, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate so info is ready if you ever need it.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Martins Ferry RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, cross-state travel is normal and expected. Martins Ferry sits right on the West Virginia border, so a quick hop across the Ohio River into Wheeling or south to Coopers Rock State Forest is standard. Most hosts are also happy with longer interstate trips into Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh is about 60 miles), Maryland, or further. Travel into Canada may be allowed by some hosts, but you'll need to confirm directly with them and review insurance coverage before booking. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance does not extend there. The simplest move: message the host with your planned route before booking, they'll usually confirm within minutes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect and how much will gas cost?
Budgeting fuel for your motorhome rental Martins Ferry is easier than you'd think. Class C motorhomes typically get 8-10 MPG, Class A rigs around 6-8 MPG, campervans 14-18 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually a 25-35% MPG hit). Ohio gas prices tend to run slightly below the national average, and you'll find affordable fuel right in Martins Ferry along Hanover Street or just across the bridge in Wheeling. A quick rule of thumb: for a 200-mile weekend loop in a Class C, plan on roughly $75-$90 in fuel. Pro tip: gas stations along US-250 in Ohio are typically cheaper than the ones right off I-70 exits.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Martins Ferry?
For peace of mind, book 2-3 months ahead for summer weekends and holiday stretches, especially Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day, when Barkcamp State Park and other Ohio State Park campgrounds fill quickly. Ohio State Parks use the ReserveOhio system (reserveohio.com), which opens reservations up to 6 months out, snag your spot the moment that window opens. For weekday or shoulder-season trips, you can often book just a week or two ahead. Private parks like Ohio Valley RV Park in Martins Ferry typically have more flexibility and can sometimes accommodate last-minute stays. Pro tip: lakeside sites at Barkcamp go first, set a calendar reminder for exactly 6 months before your target date.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/reserve-a-facilityWhat are local driving conditions like around Martins Ferry?
Driving an RV around Martins Ferry is very manageable, but there are a few local quirks worth knowing. The town sits in the hilly Ohio River Valley, so expect winding two-lane roads on Ohio Route 7 and steep grades on smaller back roads heading west toward Barkcamp. I-70 runs just south through Wheeling and is RV-friendly, your main interstate route in and out. Avoid narrow downtown Wheeling streets and watch clearance on the older bridges crossing the Ohio River. In winter, lake-effect snow and ice can hit hard, so most renters stick to April through October. Pro tip: if you're nervous about hills, ask your host for delivery, they'll handle the tricky driving for you.

Ohio Valley RV Park provides full hookups with 30 and 50-amp electric, water, sewer, and free Wi-Fi right in town. Barkcamp State Park offers electric sites, modern restrooms with hot showers, a dump station, and potable water fill-ups. Most state park campgrounds in Ohio also include picnic tables, fire rings, and lantern hooks at each site. Need to dump tanks mid-trip? Tomlinson Run State Park (about 25 miles north in WV) and Barkcamp both have public dump stations. Pro tip: arrive with full fresh-water and empty waste tanks, the dump-and-fill station at Barkcamp can have a short line on Sunday checkout mornings.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/barkcamp-state-parkWhat's actually inside the RVs available in Martins Ferry?
You'll be impressed by how well-equipped the rentals are. Most Martins Ferry RV listings on RVezy come fully outfitted with real beds (often a queen plus convertible dinette or bunks), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, and cookware, an indoor bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control via roof AC and furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, and outdoor awning, and some hosts offer Wi-Fi hotspots or onboard generators for off-grid stays at places like Wayne National Forest. Listings show exactly what's included, with photos of every space. Mileage policies vary, some hosts include 100-150 free miles per day, others offer unlimited mileage, so compare listings if you're planning a longer Ohio loop. Pro tip: bundling delivery, setup, and a linens package usually costs less than buying everything separately and saves you from packing a carload of gear.
ohiodnr.gov/go-and-do/plan-a-visit/find-a-property/barkcamp-state-parkHow do payment and security deposits work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. When you book an RV rental in Martins Ferry through RVezy, you pay directly through the platform, no cash exchanged with the host. A security deposit is placed on hold separately from your booking payment (the amount is shown clearly on each listing before you book) and is released after your trip ends, assuming the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid any issues, take a quick walkaround photo set at pickup and drop-off, follow the host's fuel and tank policies, and stay within your mileage allowance. Pro tip: keep all communication with your host inside the RVezy app so everything is documented if questions ever come up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Martins Ferry during winter?
Yes, winter RV rentals in Martins Ferry are absolutely possible and can be a magical, quiet experience, just plan smart. Many hosts offer four-season rigs with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and reliable furnaces that handle the Ohio Valley's January lows (around 21°F) just fine. Barkcamp State Park stays open year-round with limited services, making it a great cold-weather base, and many travelers love the snowy hardwood forests and frozen lake views. Look for listings tagged as winter-ready and confirm with the host that the furnace, heat tape, and propane systems are prepped. Pro tip: book a site with electric hookups (shore power) so you can run a small space heater and save propane for overnight backup.
