Mike was an excellent host and his camper was completely stocked with everything our family could have needed besides our clothes, personal hygiene and food. We will absolutely chose this camper and this host everytime we need to rent one in the future also! He was so easy to communicate with and even delivered the camper early to ensure we got the best camping spot available! Thanks again Mike, we were very impressed!!!

"Story" was a great RV and Joshua was an amazing host. This was our first time traveling in an RV and Joshua was very patient in answering all of our questions. He provided a very thorough orientation. The RV was fully equipped with everything we needed including kitchen/bath items, camping chairs, linens, etc. Everything was clean, well maintained, and exactly as described. We were able to boondock without any issues. Communication with Joshua was amazing and I highly recommend this rental.

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Dormont, PA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Dormont, PA?
Good news: RV rental in Dormont, PA is one of the most affordable ways to explore the Laurel Highlands and beyond. On RVezy, you'll typically find travel trailers starting around $80 to $120 per night, camper vans and Class B rentals from $125 to $200, and larger Class C motorhomes between $175 and $300 per night, depending on size, age, and season. Booking midweek or in spring and fall usually unlocks the best deals. Pro tip: search the Dormont map view and sort by price to find a cheap RV rental Dormont locals love, then message the host about weekly discounts before you book.
visitpittsburgh.com/things-to-do/outdoors/camping/Do I need a special license to rent an RV in Dormont?
Great news for first time renters: in Pennsylvania, your standard Class C driver's license is all you need to drive nearly every RV listed on RVezy in Dormont, including campervans, Class C motorhomes, and travel trailers. PennDOT only requires a non-commercial Class A or Class B license for rigs with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating over 26,000 pounds, and almost no peer-to-peer rental falls in that range. RVezy approved drivers are generally 25 or older, and we verify your ID right through the platform. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit and you're set to roll toward Ohiopyle.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs renting an RV in Dormont safe? What protection comes with my booking?
You're covered from the moment you book. Every RV rental in Dormont on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Interstate 79 or the PA Turnpike with real peace of mind. During checkout you choose the protection level that fits your comfort, and each plan covers physical damage to the RV up to defined limits. While this isn't auto insurance in the traditional sense, it gives renters meaningful financial protection that's far simpler than piecing together a policy yourself. Pro tip: take date stamped walkaround photos at pickup, a habit seasoned Pittsburgh area renters swear by.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Dormont RV rental?
Booking is low risk: RVezy, not the host, sets the cancellation policy, and there's a grace period after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. After that, refund eligibility depends on how far out from your trip start date you cancel. Because the policy is set platform-wide, you don't have to compare different rules across listings in Dormont, and if a host cancels you receive a refund or travel credit. Pro tip: once your dates are confirmed, book that Ohiopyle or Raccoon Creek campsite right away, since Pennsylvania state parks open reservations 11 months in advance and fall foliage weekends sell out fast.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Dormont RV trip?
Absolutely, your dog is welcome on plenty of Dormont rentals. On RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter to instantly see every pet-friendly RV rental Dormont hosts list, and message owners about their pet fees or rules before booking. Once you're on the road, Pennsylvania state parks like Raccoon Creek and Ohiopyle allow pets at designated campsite loops (Raccoon Creek's C and F loops are pet-friendly, for example). Closer to home, Dormont Pool's surrounding neighborhood and nearby Banksville Park give your pup a stretch before the drive. Pro tip: pack a copy of vaccination records, since some private campgrounds in the Laurel Highlands ask to see them at check in.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/raccoon-creek-state-park/stay.htmlCan the RV be delivered to my campsite or home in Dormont?
Yes, and it's the easiest way to start your trip. Many RVezy hosts offer RV delivery Dormont guests love, meaning the owner drives the rig to your driveway, hotel, or directly to a campground like Kentuck at Ohiopyle State Park, levels it, hooks up utilities, and walks you through every system. That makes a motorhome rental Dormont booking a breeze for first timers who'd rather skip city driving on West Liberty Avenue or the Liberty Tunnel. Filter by Delivery on RVezy to see exactly which hosts offer it and how far they'll travel. Pro tip: ask about setup, takedown, and dump service add-ons so your only job is to relax and explore.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/ohiopyle-state-park.htmlHow far can I travel from Dormont on a typical RV trip?
Plenty far for an unforgettable getaway. Most Dormont area hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with extra miles available for around 35 to 50 cents each, and some list RV rental with unlimited mileage for longer hauls. From Dormont you can reach Ohiopyle State Park in about 70 miles (about 90 minutes), Raccoon Creek State Park in roughly 35 miles, Cook Forest State Park in 110 miles, Seneca Rocks, West Virginia in about 200 miles, and Niagara Falls in about 215 miles. A classic RV road trip from Dormont also follows US 40, the National Road, into Maryland. Pro tip: total your planned miles before booking and ask the host about a custom mileage bundle.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/ohiopyle-state-park.htmlWhere are the best campgrounds near Dormont, PA?
You're spoiled for choice. Some of the best campgrounds near Dormont include Raccoon Creek State Park in Hookstown (about 35 miles west, 172 modern sites with electric, plus a swimming beach on 101 acre Raccoon Lake); Kentuck Campground at Ohiopyle State Park (about 70 miles southeast, around 200 sites and waterfalls of the Youghiogheny River); Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Mill Run (family friendly with pools and full hookups); Pittsburgh South KOA Holiday in Washington, PA; and Bear Run Campground near Portersville. All are great bases for RV camping Dormont travelers can drive to in under 90 minutes. Pro tip: reserve through pa.gov for state parks, up to 11 months ahead.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/raccoon-creek-state-park.htmlWhen is the best time of year to rent an RV in Dormont?
Late spring through mid October is prime time for a Dormont RV trip, with the absolute sweet spot being mid September to mid October, when Laurel Highlands fall foliage peaks and crowds thin out. Summer (June to August) brings warm 75 to 85 degree days perfect for swimming at Raccoon Lake, while May offers blooming wildflowers at Raccoon Creek's 314 acre Wildflower Reserve. Winters in southwestern Pennsylvania are cold and snowy, with January lows in the 20s, but a four season campervan rental Dormont hosts offer can make ski trips to Seven Springs or Hidden Valley a blast. Pro tip: book foliage weekends by mid August, they're the year's most competitive dates.
weather.gov/pbz/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You'll do great, even if it's your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives a hands on walkthrough at pickup covering propane, water, slide outs, leveling, the generator, and dumping, and most are happy to text you tips during the trip. Many Dormont area hosts also offer delivery and setup, so you can skip driving through the Fort Pitt Tunnel entirely. If you'd like to ease in, start with a smaller Class C or campervan, then point it 90 minutes south to Ohiopyle for an easy first night. Pro tip: do your walkthrough in daylight and record a quick video on your phone for reference later.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/what-to-do/stay-overnight/rv-and-tent-campsites.htmlWhat if the RV breaks down during my trip?
Help is one phone call away, day or night. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, and towing for both motorized RVs and travel trailers. From Dormont, you're never far from service: the Pittsburgh area has many mobile RV technicians, and major routes like I 79, I 376, and the PA Turnpike have frequent service plazas. Your host is also a quick text away to troubleshoot quirks specific to that rig. Pro tip: snap a photo of the VIN and license plate before you leave the driveway. It speeds up any roadside call considerably and gets you back on the road faster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Dormont RV rental to Canada or other states?
Cross state and cross border road trips from Dormont are absolutely on the table. Travel within the US is generally allowed by most hosts, so a classic RV road trip from Dormont might run through Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, or even down to the Outer Banks. Travel to Canada is sometimes permitted with host approval and proper insurance documentation, so message the owner before booking to confirm. Travel to Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Popular cross border routes from southwestern PA include Niagara Falls (around 215 miles north) and Toronto (about 320 miles). Pro tip: carry the host's authorization letter and your booking confirmation at any border crossing.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goHow much should I budget for fuel on a Dormont RV trip?
Fuel is usually the biggest variable cost, but it's easy to plan for. Most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (mpg), campervans average 16 to 20 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle. Pennsylvania gas prices typically run a bit above the national average, so figure roughly $4.00 per gallon for budgeting. A 300 mile loop from Dormont to Ohiopyle and back in a Class C might cost $90 to $120 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up before leaving Allegheny County, where Costco and Sam's Club in Robinson Township often beat Laurel Highlands pump prices by 20 to 40 cents a gallon.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Dormont?
Earlier is better, especially for marquee weekends. Pennsylvania state parks including Ohiopyle and Raccoon Creek open reservations 11 months ahead through pa.gov and the Reserve America system, and electric sites for July 4th, Labor Day, and October foliage weekends often sell out within hours of opening. For private parks like Yogi Bear's Jellystone in Mill Run or Pittsburgh South KOA, three to six months ahead is usually safe. Midweek summer trips can often be booked just a week or two out. Pro tip: lock in your campsite first, then book your RV rental in Dormont, PA around the dates, since campgrounds sell out faster than RVs do.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/what-to-do/stay-overnight/rv-and-tent-campsites.htmlWhat's it like driving an RV around Dormont and Pittsburgh?
Easier than you'd think with a little planning. Dormont sits just south of Pittsburgh along West Liberty Avenue, with quick access to I 376, I 79, and the PA Turnpike. The main thing to know: the Fort Pitt and Liberty Tunnels have height limits, but every RV under 12 feet 6 inches clears fine, and the famously curvy Pittsburgh parkways are best driven outside of 7 to 9 AM and 4 to 6 PM rush hours. Once you're south of Dormont on Route 51 or east on Route 30, traffic thins out fast. Pro tip: ask your host for delivery if the idea of urban driving stresses you out, you'll spend zero minutes in city traffic.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Dormont?
Most western Pennsylvania campgrounds make RVing easy. State parks like Raccoon Creek and Ohiopyle offer modern sites with 20, 30, or 50 amp electric hookups, flush toilets, hot showers, picnic tables, fire rings, and centrally located sanitary dump stations and potable water fills. Private parks like Yogi Bear's Jellystone Mill Run typically add full hookups (sewer, water, electric), pools, and WiFi. If you need to dump or refill on your way home, both Ohiopyle and Raccoon Creek have free dump stations for registered campers. Pro tip: pack a 25 foot freshwater hose and a 30 to 50 amp adapter, two items that solve 90 percent of hookup surprises at Laurel Highlands campgrounds.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/what-to-do/stay-overnight/rv-and-tent-campsites.htmlWhat's included inside a typical Dormont RV rental?
More than you'd expect. Most Dormont area motorhomes and travel trailers come fully equipped for a family RV trip Dormont parents will love: queen or king bed, convertible dinette, fridge/freezer, propane stove and oven, microwave, bathroom with shower and toilet, air conditioning, furnace, and seatbelted seating for travel. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor awning, and onboard generator for boondocking. WiFi varies, so plan to use your phone hotspot in spots like Ohiopyle where cell service is patchy. Pro tip: review each RVezy listing's amenity checklist carefully and ask the host about a stocked kitchen kit or linens add on so you can pack lighter for your trip.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/ohiopyle-state-park.htmlWhat add-ons and fees should I expect when I rent an RV in Dormont?
There are no surprise fees, just options to customize your trip. Common add-ons from Dormont hosts include delivery and setup (often $2 to $4 per mile from their home base), generator hours, linens and kitchen kits ($25 to $75), bike racks, and propane refills. Mileage policies typically include 100 to 150 free miles per night with extra miles around 35 to 50 cents each, and most pickups and drop offs are scheduled between 11 AM and 4 PM. Every fee appears in your booking summary before you confirm. Pro tip: bundle delivery, linens, and a dump station service for a true hands off campervan rental Dormont families and couples genuinely enjoy.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/what-to-do/stay-overnight/rv-and-tent-campsites.htmlHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Everything runs through RVezy's secure platform, so you'll never hand cash to a host. You'll pay your trip total with a credit or debit card at booking, and a refundable security deposit is pre authorized on your card before pickup, separate from your booking payment. The deposit amount is set by the host and shown clearly on the listing before you book, and it's released after your trip once the host confirms no damage. Pro tip: do a thorough walkaround with the host at both pickup and drop off and take time stamped photos and videos, so your deposit returns quickly to your card.
