Justin is amazing! He brought our camper to our spot and had everything set up for us as soon as we got there, making our Anniversary weekend super stress-free and easy. I’d definitely rent from Justin again, even though the weather didn’t cooperate with our weekend. We still had an amazing time, and it all started with having such a great host—highly recommend for future bookings. You won’t be disappointed. Thank you!

Frequently asked questions about renting an RV in Somerville, TX
How much does an RV rental in Somerville, TX typically cost?
Good news: an RV rental in Somerville, TX is one of the more affordable ways to enjoy the Brazos Valley. On RVezy, travel trailers near Lake Somerville often start around $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes range from roughly $175 to $275, and larger Class A rigs sit around $250 to $400. Weeknight stays at Lake Somerville State Park and shoulder seasons (late February to April, plus October) are where you can score a cheap RV rental in Somerville and still get perfect lake weather. Pro tip: hosts often discount weekly bookings, and booking a delivered trailer parked at Birch Creek can save you the towing learning curve entirely.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/lake-somerville/fees-facilitiesWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Somerville, TX?
Great news for first-timers: your regular Class C Texas driver's license (or any standard U.S. or Canadian driver's license) is all you need to rent an RV in Somerville, TX. No commercial driver's license (CDL) or special endorsement is required for motorhomes or travel trailers booked through RVezy, even larger Class A rigs. Approved drivers on RVezy are generally 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform when you book, so there is no paperwork to chase down. Visiting from abroad? Bring your home license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you are set to roll out toward Lake Somerville State Park.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my RV rental protected if something happens on the trip?
Yes, every booking on RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can focus on enjoying Lake Somerville instead of worrying about what-ifs. During checkout you choose the protection level that fits your trip, and that coverage helps protect against most accidental damage to the RV. It is not traditional auto insurance, but it gives renters real financial peace of mind, plus access to RVezy's support team if a tire blows on FM 60 or you need a tow near Birch Creek. Tip: save the 24/7 roadside number before pickup, since cell service can get patchy around the Lake Somerville Trailway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Somerville RV rental?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and there is a grace period after booking during which you can cancel for a full refund. After that, the refund amount depends on how far out you cancel and the circumstances. You do not have to negotiate this with the host, RVezy's team handles it. If a tropical system or severe weather is forecast during your trip dates, reach out to RVezy support early so they can walk you through your options before your Somerville RV trip is affected.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Somerville, TX?
Absolutely, a pet-friendly RV rental in Somerville is one of the easiest ways to travel with your dog. Many RVezy hosts welcome pets, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search. Lake Somerville State Park allows leashed pets at both the Birch Creek and Nails Creek units (six-foot leash maximum), and the 13-mile Lake Somerville Trailway is a dream for active dogs. Rocky Creek Park, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, is also dog-friendly. Tip: bring a long tie-out, plenty of water for hot afternoons, and a towel for muddy paws after lake swims, the shoreline at Birch Creek gets soft after summer thunderstorms.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/pets-in-parksCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Somerville?
Yes, RV delivery in Somerville is one of the smartest moves for first-timers. Many RVezy hosts will tow the RV directly to your site at Lake Somerville State Park (Birch Creek or Nails Creek), Rocky Creek Park, Yegua Creek Park, or Welch Park, then level it, hook up water and 30/50-amp power, and walk you through every system before they leave. You skip the towing stress entirely, just show up and start camping. Delivery fees are usually based on distance from the host's location, and many hosts offer free delivery within a set radius of Somerville. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm your campground loop allows host drop-off.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/lake-somerville/fees-facilities/campsitesHow far can I drive on a Somerville RV trip, and is unlimited mileage available?
You've got plenty of road to explore. Many RVezy hosts in the Somerville area include a generous daily mileage allowance (often 100 to 150 free miles per night), and some offer an RV rental with unlimited mileage as an add-on or for longer bookings. Extra miles typically run $0.30 to $0.50 each. From Somerville you're well-positioned: Austin is about 95 miles west, Houston is roughly 95 miles southeast, College Station/Texas A&M is just 30 miles north, Brenham (think Blue Bell Creameries) is 22 miles south, and Round Top is about 35 miles away. Tip: ask your host to bundle unlimited miles if you're planning a multi-stop loop.
txdot.gov/Where are the best campgrounds near Somerville, TX?
You're spoiled for choice. The best campgrounds near Somerville center on the 11,000-acre Lake Somerville: Lake Somerville State Park Birch Creek Unit has 94 RV sites with water and electric on the north shore; Lake Somerville State Park Nails Creek Unit on the southwest side offers quieter equestrian and primitive options; Rocky Creek Park (U.S. Army Corps of Engineers) has 192 sites with 30/50-amp hookups and two boat ramps; Yegua Creek Park sits right next door with shaded lakefront sites; and Welch Park offers swim beaches and easy boat access. RV camping in Somerville fills up fast on weekends, so book early. Pro tip: site loops closest to the water at Birch Creek go first, so grab those the second your window opens.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/lake-somervilleWhen is the best time to visit Somerville for an RV trip?
The sweet spot for an RV trip from Somerville is mid-March through mid-May and again from late September through November, when highs sit comfortably in the 70s and low 80s and the lake stays warm enough for paddling. Summer (June through August) brings real Texas heat with average highs of 90 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit and heat indices that can climb past 110, so look for shaded sites and rigs with strong air conditioning. Winters are mild, with January highs near 59 degrees, making December and January great for snowbird RV camping in Somerville. Local insider tip: late March wildflower bloom along Highway 36 toward Brenham is unreal, plan a slow drive.
weather.gov/hgx/I'm renting an RV for the first time. Will I know what to do?
Yes, and most first-time renters in Somerville are surprised by how easy it is. At pickup (or delivery), your RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough of everything: how to level the rig, hook up shore power at Rocky Creek's 50-amp pedestals, fill fresh water, run the propane stove, work the awning, and dump the tanks. You can also message your host any time during the trip with questions, and RVezy support is available 24/7. If you're nervous about towing, book a delivered travel trailer or a Class B campervan rental in Somerville, both are beginner-friendly. Tip: record your host's walkthrough on your phone, it's gold on night one.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/park-information/things-to-do/campingWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are never on your own. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 36, a dead battery at Birch Creek, or a lockout at Yegua Creek Park is a single phone call away from help. Your host is also a quick message away for questions about quirks specific to their RV, and RVezy's team helps coordinate solutions so your motorhome rental in Somerville keeps moving. Pro tip: before leaving, take five minutes to locate the spare tire, fuse box, and propane shutoff with your host, those three things solve most roadside hiccups.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat are the best RV road trips from Somerville, TX?
Somerville is a hidden gem launchpad. Popular RV road trips from Somerville include: Austin (about 95 miles west, 1.75 hours) for live music and Barton Springs; Houston (95 miles southeast, 1.75 hours) for Space Center and Gulf beaches at Galveston; the Texas Hill Country wineries via Fredericksburg (about 165 miles); Bastrop State Park (75 miles) for loblolly pines; and Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site (just 25 miles) where Texas declared independence. Mexico travel is not allowed on RVezy rentals due to insurance, but the entire Lone Star State is wide open. Local tip: detour through Independence and Chappell Hill on your way south, the back roads beat I-10 every time.
traveltexas.com/places-to-goHow much should I budget for fuel on a Somerville RV trip?
Texas typically has some of the lower fuel prices in the country, which helps keep a Somerville RV trip budget-friendly. Expect a Class C motorhome to get about 8 to 10 miles per gallon, a Class B campervan 16 to 20 mpg, and a truck towing a travel trailer 10 to 12 mpg. With current Texas gas prices generally in the $2.80 to $3.40 per gallon range, a 200-mile weekend loop from Somerville to Austin and back will run roughly $60 to $90 in fuel for most motorhomes. Fill up in Brenham or Caldwell, where prices tend to be lowest in the region. Pro tip: check fuel prices the morning you depart so you can top off at the best-priced station along your route.
gasprices.aaa.com/state-gas-price-averages/How far in advance should I reserve a campground near Somerville?
Book early and you'll have your pick. Texas State Parks open reservations up to five months in advance through the Texas Parks and Wildlife reservation system, and Lake Somerville State Park's lakefront electric sites at Birch Creek often sell out within hours for spring and holiday weekends. Corps of Engineers parks (Rocky Creek, Yegua Creek, Welch Park) are bookable on Recreation.gov up to six months ahead. For Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day, set a calendar reminder for the exact moment your window opens. Pro tip: weekday arrivals (Sunday through Wednesday) almost always have availability, and the sunsets over Yegua Creek on a Tuesday are unbeatable.
recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/232695What are the driving conditions like around Somerville?
Driving in and around Somerville is refreshingly easy compared to big-city Texas. You're on rural state highways (SH 36, FM 60, FM 180) with light traffic, gentle terrain, and wide shoulders, ideal for first-time RV drivers. One key heads-up: the bridge on FM 60 just before Deanville (en route to Birch Creek) has a 12-foot, 10-inch clearance, so taller Class A rigs should use the alternate route via Highway 21. Summer afternoons can bring sudden thunderstorms with hail and gusty winds, so check radar before heading out. Watch for deer at dusk on Park Road 57. Tip: avoid I-35 through Austin at rush hour by routing through Highway 21 instead.
drivetexas.org/What hookups and amenities will I find at Somerville campgrounds?
You'll have everything you need for a comfortable stay. At Lake Somerville State Park's Birch Creek Unit, all 94 RV sites come with water and 30/50-amp electric, plus access to a centralized dump station (no individual sewer hookups). Rocky Creek Park offers 30 sites with 30-amp and 127 sites with 50-amp, flush toilets, hot showers, fire rings, picnic tables, and two boat ramps. Nails Creek and Welch Park have similar setups. Where to dump in Somerville: use the dump stations at Birch Creek, Rocky Creek, or Welch Park, all included with your campsite reservation. Fill potable water at the same locations. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose, some pedestals sit farther back than expected.
swf-wc.usace.army.mil/somerville/Recreation/Parks.aspWhat's inside the RVs available in Somerville?
Plenty of comfort, even on a budget. RVs listed on RVezy in the Somerville area typically include a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa sleepers (most sleep 4 to 8), a full kitchen with stove, microwave, fridge/freezer, and a bathroom with toilet and shower. Air conditioning is standard, which matters in Burleson County summers, and most rigs have a TV, Bluetooth stereo, and outdoor speakers. Many include a generator for boondocking, and some offer Wi-Fi hotspots as an add-on. Seatbelts vary by RV class, your host will confirm legal travel seats during the walkthrough. Tip: filter by Sleeps and RV type on RVezy to find the exact layout for a family RV trip in Somerville.
txdmv.gov/motorists/buying-or-selling-a-vehicle/recreational-vehiclesWhat add-ons and pickup options can I expect when I rent an RV in Somerville, TX?
You can customize your rental to make life easier. Common host add-ons for an RV rental in Somerville, TX include kitchen kits, bedding and linen packages, camping chairs, outdoor grills, generators, kayaks (perfect for Lake Somerville's 11,000 acres), bike racks, and pet cleaning fees. Delivery and setup is a popular add-on, especially for travel trailers headed to Birch Creek or Rocky Creek. Mileage policies vary by host, with most offering 100 to 150 free miles per night and additional miles at $0.30 to $0.50 each. Pickup and drop-off times are listed on each listing. Tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a generator if you're booking a primitive site at Nails Creek, you'll thank yourself.
tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/lake-somerville/fees-facilitiesHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure, no cash or paper checks involved. When you book your RV rental in Somerville, TX through RVezy, you pay the rental cost upfront via credit card directly through the platform, which keeps everything documented and protected. The security deposit is separate from the booking payment and is held according to RVezy's policy, typically in the range of $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV. As long as the rig comes back in the same condition and within your mileage and generator-hour allowance, the deposit is released after the trip. Pro tip: take a 60-second video walk-around at pickup and drop-off, it is the single best way to protect your full deposit and avoid disputes.
