Campgrounds near Baywood Park, California
Baywood Park is a residential neighborhood in southwest San Mateo on the San Francisco Peninsula, with the Pacific coast roughly fifteen miles west over Highway 92. Most RV camping options are concentrated on that coastline around Half Moon Bay, plus a smaller cluster along the bay side near Redwood City. Francis Beach and Campground at Half Moon Bay State Beach hosts tent and RV camping with sites offering electric hookup or dry camping; there are no water or sewer hookups at the sites, but a dump station and a water filling station are on the grounds. The campground has 52 sites, and the majority can accommodate recreational vehicles and trailers up to 40 feet. Private parks fill the gaps. Half Moon Bay RV Park and Pillar Point RV Park sit along the coast with full hookups, while Pelican Point RV Park sits just outside Half Moon Bay State Beach with full hookups, Wi-Fi, cable, restrooms and showers, a laundry facility, a dump station, and a convenience store on-site. Trailer Villa RV Park lies inland near Redwood City, a useful base for travelers staying closer to the bay and Highway 101.
Things to do near Baywood Park
The coastal side offers the bulk of the recreation. Four miles of broad, sandy beaches stretch out at Half Moon Bay, with the California Coastal Trail running along the bluffs for walking and cycling between Francis Beach and Pillar Point Harbor. Tide pooling at Fitzgerald Marine Reserve in Moss Beach is a strong pick for families with kids. Pillar Point Harbor supports surf fishing, whale-watching trips, and casual viewing of the Mavericks surf break in winter. Onsite and nearby activities include hiking, volleyball, picnicking, surfing, stand-up paddle boarding, fishing, horseback riding, and birding. Back on the bay side, day trips reach Coyote Point Recreation Area, the CuriOdyssey science museum, and downtown San Mateo for groceries and restocking before heading to a site.

Coastal San Mateo County runs on a Mediterranean pattern, so timing matters more than in many regions. In Half Moon Bay, summers are comfortable, arid, and mostly clear, while winters are cool, wet, windy, and partly cloudy. Summer brings the busiest crowds but also the heaviest fog along the coast, with the marine layer common into mid-morning. September and October are typically the clearest, warmest months on the coast and are popular for shoulder-season trips. Winter is the wet season, with December averaging around 144 mm of precipitation over roughly 14 rainy days, and surf at Pillar Point ramps up during this window. Spring is mixed: cooler nights, scattered showers in March, and wildflowers along the bluffs by April. Reservations should be booked early for any holiday weekend, the Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival in October, and the full July through August stretch, when oceanfront sites turn over quickly.
Wildfire smoke from inland fires can occasionally affect air quality in late summer and early fall; checking AirNow before departure is a good habit during that window.

How to book near Baywood Park
Public and private parks use different systems, so plan accordingly. Reservations for Half Moon Bay State Beach can be made up to six months in advance online at ReserveCalifornia.com or by phone at 1-800-444-7275. Francis Beach Campground is extremely popular and sites can fill up almost immediately once they become available, so setting a reminder for the rolling six-month window is the most reliable way to land a summer weekend. All stays at the campground require a reservation, and same-day availability is very limited. Private parks like Pelican Point, Pillar Point, Half Moon Bay RV Park, and Trailer Villa book directly through each park's website or phone line; sites at Pelican Point book months in advance, so checking availability well ahead of a trip is advised.
What to expect near Baywood Park
Coastal sites are exposed. Expect steady onshore wind, cool evenings even in summer, and frequent overnight fog that can leave gear damp by morning. At Francis Beach, most sites offer electrical hookups, there are no water or sewer hookups at the campsites, but there is a dump and potable water station. Dogs are prohibited on the beach but are permitted in the campground, in the day-use picnic areas, and on the Coastside Trail. Private parks along Highway 1 generally offer full hookups, Wi-Fi, and laundry, but sites can be tight and close together. Cell coverage is reliable across the area. Layers, a windbreaker, and a windscreen for the picnic table go a long way toward a comfortable stay on the coast.

help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Baywood Park RV booking?
Booking is low risk, so you can plan your Baywood Park RV trip with confidence. RVezy (not individual hosts) sets the cancellation policy, and there is a money back grace period after booking so you have breathing room if plans shift. Refund amounts after that window depend on how close you are to your trip start date. If a host cancels, RVezy refunds the guest or provides travel credits. You will see the full policy details during checkout and in your RVezy account before you confirm. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best rigs around Memorial Day and the Morro Bay Harbor Festival, knowing you have flexibility built in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV rental in Baywood Park?
Absolutely, Baywood Park is one of the most dog-loving stretches of the Central Coast, and pet-friendly RV rental in Baywood Park is easy to find. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see motorhomes and travel trailers where your pup is welcome. Once you're here, head to the off-leash beach at Morro Strand State Beach or take a leashed stroll on the Elfin Forest boardwalk in Los Osos, both minutes from downtown Baywood. Montaña de Oro State Park allows leashed dogs in campgrounds and on paved roads. Pro tip: message the host before booking to mention your dog's size and breed, and many will share their favorite local pet patios.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=592Can the RV be delivered to my campsite in Baywood Park?
Yes, RV delivery in Baywood Park is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you don't want to drive a big rig through coastal curves. Many RVezy hosts deliver and set up directly at Morro Bay State Park Campground, Morro Dunes RV Park, or even a private driveway in Los Osos. They'll level the rig, connect hookups, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Delivery fees vary by distance, and some hosts offer free delivery within 10 to 20 miles. Filter by Delivery on the search page to see your options. It's the smartest move for a first time renting an RV on the Central Coast.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=594How far can I drive on an RV rental from Baywood Park?
You've got incredible range from Baywood Park, and mileage policies on RVezy are set by each host, with some offering RV rental with unlimited mileage. Most hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, with extra miles around $0.30 to $0.50. From Baywood, Hearst Castle in San Simeon is just 45 miles north, Pismo Beach is 20 miles south, Big Sur is about 100 miles up Highway 1, and Santa Barbara sits 110 miles south. Yosemite is a longer 250-mile haul inland. Pro tip: if you're planning a multi-stop Highway 1 RV road trip from Baywood Park, filter for unlimited mileage listings to keep the budget predictable.
dot.ca.gov/travelWhere are the best campgrounds near Baywood Park?
You're spoiled for choice with some of California's best coastal camping right at your doorstep. Top picks for RV camping in Baywood Park include Morro Bay State Park Campground (135 sites with hookups, walking distance to the marina), Morro Dunes RV Park (full hookups and beach access in Morro Bay), Montaña de Oro State Park's Islay Creek Campground (rustic, oceanfront bluffs, no hookups), and Morro Strand State Beach Campground (beachfront sites just north of town). El Chorro Regional Park, 10 miles inland near San Luis Obispo, offers full hookups and a golf course. Pro tip: state park sites book up fast, so reserve through ReserveCalifornia the moment your six-month window opens.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=594When is the best time of year to rent an RV in Baywood Park?
Baywood Park has near-perfect weather year-round, which is why locals call it the Goldilocks coast. The sweet spot is September through early November, when coastal fog burns off early, daytime highs sit in the 70s, and summer crowds clear out. Spring (March to May) brings wildflower blooms in Montaña de Oro and whale migrations offshore. Summer mornings can be foggy with highs in the mid 60s, surprising visitors who expect California heat. Winters are mild (50s to low 60s) with occasional rain, making it a great off-season escape. Pro tip: time your motorhome rental in Baywood Park around October's Morro Bay Harbor Festival for live music, seafood, and crisp blue-sky days.
weather.gov/lox/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving around Baywood Park?
You've got this, and Baywood Park is actually one of the friendlier places in California to learn. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering driving, hookups, holding tanks, and the slide-out, so you're never left guessing. Local roads like South Bay Boulevard and Los Osos Valley Road are wide and low-traffic, perfect for getting comfortable before tackling Highway 1. If city driving worries you, choose a Class B campervan rental in Baywood Park or a smaller Class C under 25 feet. Pro tip: ask your host to film a quick orientation video on their phone so you can rewatch how to flip the propane on when you're at the campsite.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/recreational-vehicles-and-trailers-handbook/What if I have a breakdown or problem during my Baywood Park RV trip?
You are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so help is one phone call away whether you are on Highway 1, parked at Montana de Oro, or boondocking near Cayucos. Roadside assistance covers common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing. For questions about the rig itself, your host is your first call, and most Baywood and Los Osos hosts respond quickly since they are local. RVezy support is also available before, during, and after your trip through the Help Center. Pro tip: save your host's number, RVezy support, and the nearest service station in Morro Bay to your phone before you leave the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Baywood Park RV rental across state lines or into other countries?
Yes, most hosts welcome interstate travel, so you can take your RV rental up into Oregon, east to Nevada (Lake Tahoe is about 350 miles away), or south toward Arizona. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on any RVezy rental because insurance and protection coverage do not extend across that border. Travel into Canada may be allowed with host approval, so message them through the listing before booking if you are planning that long haul. Popular RV road trip from Baywood Park ideas include the full Pacific Coast Highway up to the Redwoods, or inland to Sequoia National Park. Pro tip: confirm any cross state plans with your host in writing through the RVezy chat.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Baywood Park RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable cost, but it's easy to plan for. California gas prices currently average around $4.70 to $5.20 per gallon, with diesel slightly higher, and stations in Morro Bay and Los Osos are typically a few cents cheaper than San Luis Obispo. Class B campervans get 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and big Class A rigs run 6 to 9 MPG. For a typical 300-mile loop from Baywood to Big Sur and back, budget $120 to $180 in a Class C. Pro tip: fill up at the Costco in San Luis Obispo (15 miles inland) for the cheapest fuel in the county.
energy.ca.gov/data-reports/energy-almanac/transportation-energy/california-retail-fuel-outlet-annual-reportingHow far in advance should I book a campground near Baywood Park?
Book early, especially for the state parks. ReserveCalifornia opens reservations exactly six months ahead to the day, and Morro Bay State Park and Montaña de Oro fill within minutes for summer weekends and holidays. For shoulder season (October, March, April), two to three months out is usually fine. Private RV parks like Morro Dunes RV Park and Bay Pines RV Resort take bookings further out and often have last-minute availability. El Chorro Regional Park (San Luis Obispo County) uses its own reservation system and opens five months in advance. Pro tip: set a calendar reminder for 8:00 AM Pacific exactly six months before your target date, log in early, and have your site preferences ready to click.
reservecalifornia.com/What are the driving conditions like around Baywood Park?
Driving around Baywood Park is genuinely pleasant. Local roads are wide, traffic is light, and there's no urban gridlock to worry about. South Bay Boulevard connects Baywood to Morro Bay along the estuary, and Los Osos Valley Road heads to San Luis Obispo with gentle curves. Heading north on Highway 1 toward Big Sur, the road narrows with cliffside curves past Ragged Point, so take it slow and use turnouts. Coastal fog can roll in thick during summer mornings, especially around the Los Osos dunes, so plan longer drives for the afternoon. Pro tip: avoid Highway 41 over the Cuesta Grade in a big Class A during high winds, and check Caltrans QuickMap before any Highway 1 trip for closures.
quickmap.dot.ca.gov/What hookups and amenities can I expect at Baywood Park area campgrounds?
You'll find a mix that fits every style of camper. Full hookup sites (water, electric 30 or 50 amp, sewer) are standard at Morro Dunes RV Park, Bay Pines RV Resort, and El Chorro Regional Park. Morro Bay State Park offers partial hookups (water and electric) at most sites with a dump station onsite. Montaña de Oro State Park is rustic with no hookups, but it's the most stunning oceanside camping in California. Potable water fill stations are available at Morro Bay State Park and the Chevron in Los Osos. Pro tip: most hosts send you out with full fresh water and empty waste tanks, so you can comfortably dry camp two to three nights at Montaña de Oro before needing to dump.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=594What's inside a typical Baywood Park RV rental?
You'll be impressed. Most RVezy rentals in Baywood Park come fully equipped for a comfortable Central Coast getaway. Expect a real bed (queen in most Class C and travel trailers, king in many Class A), a kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, plus a bathroom with toilet and shower. Many include a TV, Bluetooth speakers, solar panels for boondocking at Montaña de Oro, and seatbelts for every traveler (always confirm sleeps and seatbelt counts on the listing). Generators or shore power keep AC and outlets running. Pro tip: filter by sleeps count and check the listing photos closely, then message the host to confirm bedding, cookware, and outdoor chairs are included for sunset dinners overlooking the Morro Rock.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/recreational-vehicles-and-trailers-handbook/What add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Hosts offer thoughtful extras that make your Baywood Park trip easier. Common add-ons include bedding and linen packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits, camp chairs, kayaks (perfect for paddling the Morro Bay estuary), bike racks, and portable BBQs. Generator hours, propane refills, and dump-station service are sometimes bundled or charged at flat rates. For pickup, you can either meet at the host's location in Baywood, Los Osos, or Morro Bay, or pay for delivery to your campground. Mileage policies vary, with many hosts including 100 to 150 free miles per night. Pro tip: ask about an estuary kayak add-on, since launching right from your campsite at Morro Bay State Park is a Central Coast bucket-list moment.
parks.ca.gov/?page_id=594How do payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit card at booking, never directly to the host, which protects you and keeps everything documented. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment before the trip and released after the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. Choosing a higher tier protection plan during checkout can lower your out of pocket risk. Pro tip: do a quick walkaround video with your host at both pickup and dropoff in Baywood Park, timestamps and all, so the deposit return is fast and drama free. Most renters see their deposit released within a few days of returning the keys.
