Campgrounds and RV parks near Belmont, CA

From a bayside base like Trailer Villa RV Park, day trips to San Francisco, Stanford University, and the Peninsula's open-space preserves are straightforward via US-101 and I-280. The coastal parks open up a different set of activities. Near Pillar Point RV Park, the surrounding area offers beach walking, fishing, boating, whale watching, and sunset viewing over the Pacific, and Pillar Point Harbor is home to the Mavericks surf break and local seafood restaurants. At Pelican Point RV Park, guests can reach surf fishing and beachcombing on foot. Francis Beach connects to the paved Coastside Trail, which runs along the bluffs and is wheelchair accessible, giving direct access to miles of sand and bluff-top walking.

The Peninsula has a Mediterranean climate with a distinct dry summer and a wet winter. Summers are usually warm and dry, with temperatures typically in the mid 60s to mid 80s Fahrenheit, while winters are cool and wet with occasional strong storms and temperatures rarely dropping below freezing. Bayside Belmont stays warmer and clearer than the coast. On the Highway 1 side, summer mornings often bring marine fog that burns off by midday, and afternoon winds along the bluffs can be brisk. Summer and early fall draw the heaviest demand. Pumpkin season around Half Moon Bay is especially busy: the October Pumpkin Festival pulls heavy traffic, and coastal RV parks fill weeks in advance. Winter is the wettest stretch, with most rain falling between November and March, but coastal campgrounds generally stay open year-round. Francis Beach has a campground with 52 campsites, suitable for both tent and RV camping, and it operates year-round. Travelers should expect cold, foggy nights on the coast even in summer and pack layers regardless of season.

Hookups and site styles vary. At Francis Beach, more than half the campground offers electrical hookups, there are no water or sewer hookups at the campsites, but there is a dump and potable water station. Maximum length for trailers, campers and motorhomes is 40 feet. Dogs are permitted in the campground and on the Coastside Trail but prohibited on beaches. Private coastal parks generally offer full hookups, with electric, sewer, and water connections, hot showers, laundry, and WiFi at most properties. Sites at coastal parks tend to be tight, paved or gravel, and exposed to wind. Cell coverage is reliable on the bay side and patchy in stretches along Highway 1.
