Campgrounds and RV parks near Bethel Island, CA

Water activities dominate. The island offers direct access to Franks Tract, a flooded former farm island known for largemouth and striped bass, and to the Big Break Regional Shoreline on the south side of the channel, which has a visitor center, fishing pier, and paved trails suitable for kids and bikes. Boat rentals, wakeboarding, water skiing, and kayaking are available through the marinas on the island. Anglers target striped bass, largemouth bass, catfish, and sturgeon year-round, with spring and fall the most productive windows. Off the water, the small downtowns of Brentwood and Oakley offer u-pick orchards in late spring and summer, and the Lodi and Clarksburg wine regions are a short drive northeast. Mount Diablo State Park, with its summit road and hiking trails, sits about forty minutes west and makes a good day trip when the Delta heat builds.

The Delta has a Mediterranean climate with a long, hot, dry summer and a short, mild, wet winter. Summer highs typically push into the upper 80s and low 90s Fahrenheit, and the afternoon Delta breeze off the water keeps marinas usable, but tents and small trailers without air conditioning can be uncomfortable. Summer is also the busiest season for boating, water sports, and weekend wake traffic, and waterfront RV sites at the island marinas often fill weeks ahead for holiday weekends including Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel. March through May brings wildflowers in the surrounding hills, cool nights, and strong striped bass fishing. September and October stay warm and dry with thinner crowds. Winter is the wet season, with most rain falling between November and February. Storms can bring localized flooding on Delta islands, and some private campgrounds reduce hours or close marina services in the off-season, so confirming amenities by phone before arrival is worthwhile.

The island is flat, agricultural, and ringed by levee roads, so cell coverage is generally fine but grocery and fuel options on the island itself are limited. Plan to stock up in Oakley or Brentwood before crossing the bridge. Most RV resorts here are working marinas, which means active boat traffic, early-morning anglers, and evening waterfront activity rather than a quiet forest setting. Sites are often close together with limited shade, so awnings, sun screens, and a portable fan or generator-friendly cooling setup help during summer. Mosquitoes and Delta gnats can be active near sloughs at dawn and dusk, especially in late spring. Levee roads are narrow and sometimes have weight or width restrictions, so checking the route for a larger rig before turning off Highway 4 onto Bethel Island Road is recommended. Leashed pets are welcome at most properties.
