Campgrounds and RV parks near Crockett, CA

From a Crockett base, the Carquinez Strait shoreline offers fishing, birding, and paved waterfront paths. Benicia State Recreational Area covers marsh, grassy hillsides, and rocky beaches along the narrowest portion of the Carquinez Strait, with about 2.5 miles of road and bike paths used by cyclists, runners, walkers, equestrians, and roller skaters. The marshland area on Dillon's Point is a favorite spot for fishing. North of town, Napa Valley wineries, tasting rooms, and the Oxbow Public Market are an easy day trip. Skyline Wilderness Park is an 850-acre wilderness area at the southeast corner of Napa with over 25 miles of trails for hiking, biking, and equestrian use, plus picnic and barbecue areas, a disc golf course, an RV park, and tent camping. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo and the Vallejo ferry to San Francisco round out family options.

The area has a Mediterranean climate with dry summers and a wet winter season, generally favorable for camping, though summer afternoons can be hot inland and winter brings periodic rain. Late spring through early fall is the peak window: skies are clear, fire conditions can be elevated in surrounding hills, and weekend sites at popular parks book out well in advance. Winter brings most of the year's rain, concentrated from November through March. Nearby Napa receives roughly 120 mm of rainfall in December across about 11 rainy days, its wettest month. Trails can stay muddy for days after storms, and Skyline Wilderness Park has noted that all trails may remain very wet following December storms. Some seasonal closures and reduced services apply in winter at certain state-managed sites, so confirming dates before arrival is essential. Spring brings wildflowers, green hills, and lighter crowds, while fall coincides with the Napa Valley grape harvest and a second mini-peak for RV bookings tied to tasting-room visits.

Most campgrounds in the immediate Crockett area are urban or suburban in character rather than backcountry. Expect easy freeway access, paved or gravel pads, and reliable cell service throughout, given the proximity to East Bay and Vallejo urban centers. Full hookups, dump stations, hot showers, and laundry are standard at the private parks. Sites can sit close together and some are near Interstate 80, so road noise is common at the lower-priced options. At Benicia State Recreational Area, the three enroute spots are limited to fully self-contained motorhomes or trailers with no tents, and stays are one night only with restricted check-in and check-out times. Bridge tolls apply when crossing the Carquinez or Benicia-Martinez bridges. Summer afternoons can be windy along the strait, and marine fog can roll in overnight even when inland Napa is hot.
