Campgrounds near Eldridge, California
Eldridge sits in the heart of Sonoma Valley, just south of Glen Ellen and north of Boyes Hot Springs, with Arnold Drive forming its western edge and Sonoma Creek its eastern boundary. The community is best known as the former site of the Sonoma Developmental Center, surrounded by hundreds of acres of redwoods, oak woodlands, and protected open space that links into the wider Sonoma Valley regional park network. For RV travelers, the location works as a quiet base within easy reach of Sonoma and Napa Valley wineries, the Russian River, and the Pacific coast.
Campgrounds within a short drive cover the full range of styles. Sugarloaf Ridge State Park sits up Adobe Canyon Road in the Mayacamas Mountains and offers tent and small-RV camping in a meadow setting. Bothe-Napa Valley State Park, over the ridge near Calistoga, adds redwood-shaded sites, yurts, and cabins. For full hookups, Wine Country RV Park Sonoma, Sonoma County Fairgrounds RV Park in Santa Rosa, and San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA all sit within roughly a half-hour drive.
Things to do near Eldridge
Hiking is the strongest draw close to town. Most of Eldridge is undeveloped, with hundreds of acres of redwoods and ancient oaks, forests, meadows, and views into the upper Valley of the Moon, plus Sonoma Creek and Suttonfield Lake next to Sonoma Valley Regional Park. A few miles up Highway 12, Sugarloaf Ridge State Park has 25 miles of trails ranging from less than a mile to 8.8 miles, and elevation gains reaching 2,500 feet. The park is also home to the volunteer-run Robert Ferguson Observatory, which hosts public telescope nights. Over the ridge, Bothe-Napa Valley State Park offers over 10 miles of hiking trails, including the popular Redwood Trail that follows Ritchey Creek through fern-covered canyon floors, and a seasonal swimming pool that operates on summer weekends. Wine tasting, the Sonoma Plaza, and Jack London State Historic Park round out a typical itinerary.

Sonoma Valley has a Mediterranean climate, so the camping calendar is shaped by a dry summer and a wet winter. Most campgrounds in the area operate year-round, but conditions and reservation pressure shift sharply by season. Spring brings green hills and wildflowers; Sugarloaf Ridge has a seasonal waterfall along Sonoma Creek that flows after winter rains.
Summer is peak season. Days are warm to hot, nights are mild, and weekends fill quickly, especially around wine harvest. Camping spots at Sugarloaf fill up quickly on weekends from April through October and on holidays. Late summer and early fall also bring elevated wildfire risk in the North Bay, and campfire rules can change mid-season; visitors should buy firewood locally to avoid spreading invasive insects. Winter is the quietest period: cool, often rainy, with fewer crowds and reduced demand at the state parks. Both Sugarloaf Ridge and Bothe-Napa Valley keep their campgrounds open year-round, though some seasonal features such as the Bothe pool and Sugarloaf glamping tents only operate in the warmer months.

I reached out for clarification and location, no response! Moments later Rveezy tells me the host is no longer comfortable with accommodating us) Evgeniy not only responed within 5min of me reachout out, but had us out and on the road to enjoy out trip within an hour. The vehicle is perfect, clean and easy to function. We had never driven or worked an RV before but his quick rundown and eargeness to answer any questions helped put out minds at ease. He is so kind, professonal, and absolutely Amazing 🤩. We will definitely rent from him again despite our extra charges for not having time to thoroughly clean out and fill up; but that was a very small price to pay for what we would have missed if he hadn't come to help us out of a pickle. How to book campgrounds near Eldridge
State park sites use a single system. Campsites, yurts, and cabins at both Sugarloaf Ridge State Park and Bothe-Napa Valley State Park are reserved through ReserveCalifornia. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance, and summer weekends typically sell out as soon as they release. If there are no reservable spots available on ReserveCalifornia, campers may still book a first-come, first-served site on the day of arrival by calling Sugarloaf Ridge at 10:00 am. Private parks are booked directly: San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA through the KOA website or by phone, Wine Country RV Park Sonoma direct, and Sonoma County Fairgrounds RV Park through the fairgrounds. Reservations are strongly recommended for any stay between late spring and early fall.
What to expect
Site mixes vary widely. Sugarloaf Ridge can accommodate RVs up to 31 feet and trailers up to 28 feet, with no dump station or hookups, but water spigots are available to fill tanks. Bothe-Napa Valley has a similar profile at Ritchey Creek Campground: a mix of walk-in tent sites and back-in RV sites with no hookups, flush toilets, coin-operated showers, fire rings, and food lockers. For full hookups and bigger rigs, head to the private parks. Wine Country RV Park Sonoma offers full-hookup pull-through and back-in sites with 30 and 50 amp service, picnic tables, WiFi, a laundry, and restrooms with showers. San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA caters to all RV sizes with full-hookup sites, a pool, playground, store, laundry, and dump station. Cell service is generally good in the valley and weaker up the canyons.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Eldridge, CA?
An RV rental in Eldridge typically costs less per night than most Sonoma Valley hotels. On RVezy, travel trailers often start around $90 to $150 per night, campervans around $150 to $225, and Class C motorhomes around $200 to $325 per night. Prices shift with season, RV age, and add-ons like generators or kitchen kits. To find a cheap RV rental Eldridge travelers love, book midweek, aim for shoulder season (late February to April or November), and filter for delivery so you can skip a tow vehicle. Pro tip: bundling delivery plus a 5 to 7 night stay often unlocks weekly discounts hosts set themselves, stretching your Sonoma wine country budget further.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Eldridge,CaliforniaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Eldridge, California?
Great news for first-time renters: your regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Eldridge. California does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for motorhomes or trailers under 40 feet used recreationally. You'll just need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the booking flow, so there's no extra paperwork at pickup. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home-country license, available from your local auto association for under $20. Most guests are surprised how quick the handoff is, leaving you free to point the rig toward Sonoma Plaza.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/driver-education-and-safety/educational-materials/fast-facts/recreational-vehicles-and-trailers-ffdl-06/Is insurance and roadside assistance included when I rent an RV in Eldridge?
Yes, every RVezy booking includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head out on Highway 12 with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers eligible physical damage to the RV and includes liability coverage, separate from your personal auto insurance. You choose your protection tier at checkout (options like Standard, Plus, and Peace of Mind), so the coverage level is your call, not the host's. If you get a flat near Glen Ellen or need a battery jump in Kenwood, one call gets help dispatched. That safety net is why many first-timers feel confident booking their Sonoma Valley RV trip.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionWhat is the cancellation policy if my Eldridge RV trip plans change?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and every reservation includes a money-back grace period right after you book so you can lock in dates with confidence. After that window, refund amounts depend on how far out from your trip you cancel. You will see the exact terms before you confirm payment. If wildfire smoke or a Red Flag Warning affects your itinerary in Sonoma County, message RVezy support right away, the team handles these cases daily and can guide you through rebooking options for your Sonoma Valley adventure.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Eldridge?
Yes, pet-friendly RV rental Eldridge options are easy to find on RVezy. Toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you will see hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) with clear pet rules and any cleaning fees listed up front. Sonoma Valley itself is a dog-lover's dream, with leashed pups welcome at Sonoma Plaza, on paths at Sonoma Valley Regional Park in Glen Ellen, and at many tasting-room patios along Highway 12. Sonoma County Regional Parks require leashes no longer than 6 feet, and pets must sleep inside your RV at night. Pro tip: pack a collapsible water bowl, summer afternoons in the valley can hit the mid-90s.
parks.sonomacounty.gov/visit/park-rulesCan the RV be delivered to my campground or rental in Eldridge?
Yes, RV delivery Eldridge is one of the most popular options on RVezy, especially for first-timers who would rather skip driving a big rig through Sonoma's winding back roads. Many hosts will deliver to nearby spots like Wine Country RV Park in Petaluma, Sugarloaf Ridge State Park in Kenwood, the Sonoma County Fairgrounds RV Park, or even a friend's driveway, then handle the setup, leveling, and walkthrough for you. Filter listings by Delivery and check each host's delivery radius and fee (typically a flat rate plus per-mile after a set distance). Pro tip: ask the host about a full setup package, you will arrive to a chilled fridge and made beds, leaving you free to head straight to Jack London State Historic Park.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039559433-Delivery-optionsHow far can I drive, and what about mileage limits on my Eldridge RV rental?
Many hosts on RVezy include a generous daily mileage allowance (often 100 to 150 free miles per day), and some listings offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, ideal for a Sonoma Valley RV trip that wanders. From Eldridge you are about 10 minutes to downtown Sonoma, 25 minutes to Santa Rosa, 1 hour to Bodega Bay's Doran Regional Park, 45 minutes to Napa, and about 1.5 hours to Point Reyes National Seashore. Going farther? Lake Tahoe is roughly 3.5 hours and Yosemite about 4.5 hours. Pro tip: if you are planning a bigger loop, message the host before booking to negotiate a higher mileage cap or unlimited add-on, it is usually cheaper than paying overage fees later.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Eldridge,CaliforniaWhere are the best campgrounds near Eldridge for an RV trip?
You're spoiled for choice. Just up Highway 12 in Kenwood, Sugarloaf Ridge State Park offers 47 sites with stunning oak-meadow views and the Robert Ferguson Observatory for stargazing. Spring Lake Regional Park in Santa Rosa has 31 oak-shaded sites with a swimming lagoon nearby. For a coastal pivot, Doran Regional Park in Bodega Bay puts you on a 2-mile beach with 120 year-round sites. Wine Country RV Park in Petaluma is a full-hookup favorite, and the Sonoma County Fairgrounds RV Park in Santa Rosa is central and event-friendly. Sonoma County Regional Parks accept reservations up to 12 months in advance, state parks 6 months ahead via ReserveCalifornia. Pro tip: weekends from May through October book out fast, lock in dates early.
parks.sonomacounty.ca.gov/visit/campgroundsWhen is the best time of year for RV camping in Eldridge?
Eldridge has one of the most forgiving climates in California, so RV season runs nearly year-round. The sweet spot is April through June, when the valley is green, wildflowers cover the hills around Jack London State Historic Park, and daytime temps sit in the comfortable 70s. September and October bring crush season at the wineries and warm days in the 80s, an iconic Sonoma Valley RV trip experience. July and August are hot (often 90 to 95F) but dry, and winters are mild (50 to 60F days) with green hills and lower crowds. Pro tip: book a shoulder-season trip in late October to catch harvest festivals plus lower nightly rates.
weather.gov/mtr/I'm a first-time renter, how do I learn to drive and use the RV?
You're in good hands. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at delivery), walking you through driving basics, leveling, hookups, the awning, propane, the generator, and waste tanks. Hosts know first time renting an RV can feel intimidating, so most happily film personalized walkthrough videos you can rewatch on the road. For Eldridge specifically, choose a Class B campervan or a smaller Class C (24 to 28 feet), they handle Highway 12's curves and Sonoma Plaza's parking with ease. You can also message any host before booking to ask questions. Pro tip: do your first night somewhere close, like Sugarloaf Ridge, so you can practice setup without pressure.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/recreational-vehicles-trailers-handbook/What happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
You are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Arnold Drive, a dead battery at a Glen Ellen winery, or a tow situation on Highway 121 is one phone call away. The dispatcher coordinates the service provider and keeps your host informed. In a true emergency, dial 911 first. Sonoma County is well-served by mobile RV techs and tow operators, so help typically arrives within a reasonable window depending on your location. Pro tip: snap photos of the RV's exterior and dash gauges at pickup, it speeds up any claim and gets you back to your motorhome rental Eldridge adventure faster.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039062013-Roadside-assistance-for-rentersCan I take my Eldridge RV rental on a road trip across state lines or into Canada or Mexico?
Cross-country adventures are very doable. From Eldridge, popular routes include an RV road trip from Eldridge up the Oregon Coast (Crescent City is about 6 hours), a Highway 395 loop through Mammoth and Death Valley, or a swing through Nevada to Lake Tahoe and Reno. Interstate travel within the US is generally allowed, just confirm with the host before booking. Travel into Canada may be permitted with host approval and proper documentation. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because the protection plan and insurance do not extend south of the border. Pro tip: for a classic loop, do Eldridge to Crater Lake to Redwood National Park in 7 to 10 days, it is a bucket-list run.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel economy and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan smart and you'll be fine. Most Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), campervans 16 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 MPG combined). California gas prices in Sonoma County typically run higher than the national average, often $4.75 to $5.25 per gallon, so budget accordingly. A 4-day Sonoma Valley loop staying under 300 miles in a Class C might run $120 to $180 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up in Petaluma or off Highway 101 instead of in Sonoma proper, prices can be 30 to 50 cents per gallon cheaper, and the Costco in Rohnert Park is a local favorite for the best rates.
energy.ca.gov/data-reports/energy-almanac/transportation-energy/california-retail-fuel-outlet-annual-reportingHow far in advance should I book a campground near Eldridge?
Earlier is better, but you have options. Sonoma County Regional Parks (Spring Lake, Doran, Gualala Point, Stillwater Cove) open reservations up to 12 months in advance through the county's reservation portal, and summer weekends fill within days of release. California State Parks like Sugarloaf Ridge and Bodega Dunes use ReserveCalifornia and open 6 months out at 8 a.m. Pacific. Private parks like Wine Country RV Park take direct bookings and often have shorter lead times. Pro tip: for a summer or harvest-season Sonoma Valley trip, set a calendar reminder for the 6-month-out drop, log in 10 minutes early, and have backup sites ready, popular loops at Sugarloaf can vanish within minutes.
reservecalifornia.com/What are the local driving conditions like around Eldridge?
Driving here is genuinely pleasant once you know the rhythm. Highway 12 (the Sonoma Highway) is the main artery through Eldridge and runs from Sonoma up to Santa Rosa with gentle curves and gorgeous vineyard views, very manageable in any RV. Watch for slow zones in Glen Ellen and Kenwood, weekend bicycle traffic, and occasional wildlife at dawn and dusk. Avoid the narrow Trinity Road and Cavedale Road shortcuts over the Mayacamas if you're in anything bigger than a campervan, they're steep and tight. Summer afternoons can bring smoke during fire season, so check Cal Fire alerts. Pro tip: drive into Sonoma Plaza before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m., parking a larger motorhome is much easier off-peak.
quickmap.dot.ca.gov/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Eldridge?
Sonoma County campgrounds run the full range. Full-hookup parks like Wine Country RV Park in Petaluma offer 30/50 amp power, water, sewer, Wi-Fi, laundry, and pools. Sonoma County Regional Parks (Spring Lake, Doran) have flush toilets, hot showers, and dump stations but limited electrical hookups except at select sites like Stillwater Cove. State parks like Sugarloaf Ridge have potable water fills and a dump station but no individual site hookups. Quiet hours are typically 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. with generator use restricted to daytime hours. Pro tip: top off fresh water and dump tanks before leaving any campground, the next available dump station could be 30+ miles down the road.
parks.sonomacounty.gov/play/camping/tent-trailer-and-rv-campsitesWhat's included inside a typical RV rental in Eldridge?
Most listings come ready to roll. A typical campervan rental Eldridge guests book includes a queen or convertible bed, a small kitchenette with sink, fridge, stove, basic cookware, and dishes. Class C motorhomes step up with a full bathroom (toilet, shower), sleeping for 4 to 6, dinette, roof AC, furnace, and often a TV. Travel trailers and fifth wheels offer the most living space and full kitchens. Many hosts include linens, towels, camp chairs, outdoor mats, and a starter kit of paper goods, just check the listing's amenities tab. Generators, Wi-Fi hotspots, and solar setups are common add-ons. Pro tip: every motorhome on RVezy has seatbelts for designated passenger seats, confirm the seatbelt count matches your group size before booking.
dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/recreational-vehicles-trailers-handbook/equipment-requirements/What popular add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
This is where RVezy really shines for Eldridge trips. Popular add-ons include generators ($25 to $50 per day), bike racks, kayak/SUP carriers, bedding and kitchen kits, propane refills, outdoor furniture, and Wi-Fi hotspots, all set by the host on the listing page. Pickup is typically at the host's home in Sonoma, Glen Ellen, Santa Rosa, or Napa, but delivery is widely available, often the better choice if you don't want to drive a big rig. Mileage policies vary: some hosts offer unlimited miles, others a 100 to 150 mile daily allowance with overage fees. Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a generator add-on, you'll arrive to a fully ready RV camping Eldridge experience with zero learning curve on day one.
sonomacounty.com/lodging/campground-rv-parks/How does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
It is straightforward and secure. You pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, never directly to the host, which protects both sides. A security deposit is held separately from your booking payment and is pre-authorized on your card before the trip rather than charged outright, then released after a clean return. The renter protection plan you choose at checkout reduces your out-of-pocket risk for most eligible damages. Pro tip: do a thorough walkaround video with the host at pickup and drop-off, noting existing scratches, tire condition, mileage, and fuel level. This quick habit is the best way to ensure a smooth deposit release and a stress-free end to your Sonoma Valley adventure.
