Campgrounds and RV parks near Esparto, CA

Water recreation dominates the area. Lake Berryessa draws boaters and anglers, with launch ramps located around the lake and boat rentals at Pleasure Cove Marina ranging from houseboats to ski boats and kayaks. Spanish Flat Campground offers similar lakeside access on the western shore, with swimming and fishing right at camp. Cache Creek Regional Park, along Highway 16 northwest of Esparto, is a favorite destination for whitewater rafters, kayakers, hikers, and nature lovers, with oaks, pines, grasslands, meadows, and riparian habitat along the creek. Cache Creek Canyon's peaks reach higher than 2,200 feet in elevation while the campground sits at approximately 600 feet. Hikers can connect to trails in the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument. Closer to town, the Capay Valley offers olive mills, farm stands, and tasting rooms, plus Cache Creek Casino Resort for a non-outdoor evening.

The Esparto area follows an inland Mediterranean pattern: hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Peak camping season runs late spring through early fall, with the heaviest demand from Memorial Day through Labor Day. At Pleasure Cove during peak season, April through October, a two-night minimum stay is required on weekends. Reserve lakeside sites well in advance for summer weekends. Summer heat is significant. Temperatures at the Cache Creek campground can be over 100 degrees in the summer during the day and below 50 degrees in the evening, and in early spring and late fall temperatures can drop to near or below freezing. Fire restrictions are common around the lake: no campfires during the summer burn ban, and a propane gas grill is required. Late summer brings another consideration along Cache Creek: yellow jackets are common in the Cache Creek Canyon area, especially during late summer and early fall when populations peak, and traps alone cannot fully protect against them. Winter brings most of the year's rain and cooler nights, with reduced services at some lakeside facilities. Spring offers green hills, wildflowers, and rising lake levels.

Hookup levels vary widely. Pleasure Cove Campground has 140 closely spaced campsites for RVs, trailers, and tents, and includes 11 partial hookup sites with electricity and water. The partial hook-ups will not be able to dump; electricity and water are provided. Plan a dump stop before or after your stay. Spanish Flat offers a water spigot but all of its sites are dry camping with no hookups, and the campground has an RV dump station available for a fee. Midway RV Park and Vineyard RV Park typically offer fuller hookups suited to longer RVs. Boaters should arrive prepared for inspection. Per Solano County Water Agency regulations, all motorized watercraft must be sealed with either a green Lake Berryessa seal or a red quarantine seal that has been on and in the system for at least 30 days, or the watercraft will not be allowed in the campground. Cell service is typically hard to come by within the canyon parks, and shade can be limited at open lakeside and creekside sites.
