Fetters Hot Springs-Agua Caliente camping overview
Fetters Hot Springs-Agua Caliente sits in the Sonoma Valley along State Route 12, part of the cluster of communities known collectively as 'the Springs,' about 2.5 miles northwest of the town of Sonoma. RV travelers use it as a base for Wine Country, the Mayacamas foothills, and day trips to Napa, Santa Rosa, and the Pacific coast.
The closest public campground is Sugarloaf Ridge State Park, located in the Mayacamas Mountains in Northern California, straddling the border of Sonoma and Napa counties, about a 20-minute drive northeast in the hills above Kenwood. It offers tent and RV camping along Sonoma Creek but has no hookups. For full-hookup RV stays, Wine Country RV Park Sonoma provides electric, water, and sewer service with longer-term sites. Travelers crossing into the Napa side often book Napa Valley Expo RV Park in downtown Napa, while those routing through the South Bay use San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA or Novato RV Park. Together these options cover dry camping in a state park and full-service RV parks within roughly a 45-minute drive.
Things to do near Fetters Hot Springs-Agua Caliente
The Sonoma Plaza is a short drive south and anchors a walkable historic district with restaurants, tasting rooms, and Sonoma State Historic Park. Sugarloaf Ridge State Park spans 4,900 acres with over 25 miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding, and bicycle use, including the climb to Bald Mountain, which on a clear day delivers views to the Sierra Nevada and the Golden Gate Bridge from the 2,729-foot summit. The park is also home to the Robert Ferguson Observatory, which runs public astronomy nights. Families can combine winery visits with stops at Maxwell Farms Regional Park, Jack London State Historic Park in Glen Ellen, and the swimming holes along Sonoma Creek. Bodega Bay, Armstrong Redwoods, and the Russian River are all within an easy day-trip radius for travelers basing their RV here.

The Sonoma Valley has a Mediterranean climate: warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Late spring through early fall is the dominant camping window, with low rain chances and reliable access to trails and wineries. Summer afternoons can be hot inland, though mornings often start with marine-layer cloud cover drifting up from San Pablo Bay.
Wildfire risk is the most important seasonal factor for RV travelers in the North Bay. Peak fire weather typically arrives in September and October, when dry offshore winds ramp up across Sonoma County. Public Safety Power Shutoffs can affect hookups and cell service during high-wind events in autumn, and local fire restrictions may limit campfires at state-park sites.
Winter brings the bulk of the rain, with the wettest months falling between December and February. The park is open all year and experiences most of its annual rainfall between November and April, and creek crossings, mud, and storm closures are realistic considerations from December through March. Spring brings wildflowers and waterfalls along Sonoma Creek as trails dry out.

How to book campgrounds near Fetters Hot Springs-Agua Caliente
Sugarloaf Ridge State Park is booked through ReserveCalifornia, the state's central reservation system. Reservations can be made up to six months to the day in advance of the arrival date on a rolling window, with each new date opening at 8 a.m. PST, and weekends from late spring through October sell out early. The park releases first-come, first-served sites over the phone at 10 a.m. each day, so calls placed before that time will not be taken. Private parks have their own systems. Wine Country RV Park Sonoma takes direct reservations and skews toward longer stays, while San Francisco North / Petaluma KOA, Napa Valley Expo RV Park, and Novato RV Park use their own booking pages and fill quickly around harvest weekends and Bay Area events. Book full-hookup sites well ahead for September and October.
What to expect at campgrounds near Fetters Hot Springs-Agua Caliente
Expect a split between rustic state-park camping and full-service private RV parks. At Sugarloaf Ridge State Park, sites sit along Sonoma Creek with picnic tables, fire rings, flush toilets, and hot showers, but there is no dump station at the campground or hookups, though water spigots are available to fill tanks. The campground can accommodate RVs up to 31 feet and trailers up to 28 feet, so larger rigs should look to the valley-floor parks instead. Wine Country RV Park Sonoma offers full hookups with 30/50 amp service, along with laundry, showers, and Wi-Fi on site. Cell service is generally good throughout the Sonoma Valley but drops in the canyons around Sugarloaf.

Filter listings by Delivery to see hosts who offer it, and message them with your address to confirm distance fees. It's the easiest way to have a Sonoma Valley RV trip without ever touching the steering wheel.

Summer (July and August) regularly hits 90 to 95 degrees in the valley, so book a rental with strong air conditioning. Winters are mild but wet, with highs in the upper 50s and most rain falling December through March. Local insider tip: visit during the September crush for harvest tours, or in February when the mustard blooms turn vineyards bright yellow.
weather.gov/mtr/I'm a first-time renter. Will I actually know how to use the RV?
First time renting an RV in Sonoma Valley is designed to feel approachable. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup that walks you through the generator, water tanks, slide-outs, propane, awning, and dump procedures. You can message the host with questions before you book to gauge their style. Most first-timers in the Fetters Hot Springs-Agua Caliente area choose a Class C motorhome (drives like a big van) or a delivered travel trailer (no towing required). Pro tip: ask your host for a written cheat-sheet of the systems and record a short video of the walkthrough on your phone for easy reference later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002558234-For-rentersWhat happens if I break down on Highway 12 or Trinity Road?
You are never on your own. Every booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the RVezy renter protection plan, so a flat tire on Highway 12, a dead battery at a vineyard, or a tow needed off Trinity Grade is one phone call away. Help is dispatched directly to your location, whether you are in downtown Sonoma or up in the Mayacamas Mountains. You can also reach RVezy customer support before, during, and after your trip. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number in your phone before pickup, and note your nearest cross-street if you need help, since cell coverage can be patchy in the hills above Glen Ellen.

Domestic road trips are wide open. You are welcome to take your RV rental across state lines into Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, and beyond, which makes the Pacific Coast Highway or a Lake Tahoe loop totally doable from the Springs. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage does not extend across the border. Cross-border travel into Canada may be possible with specific host approval, so message the host through the listing before booking if Vancouver Island is on your wish list. For most guests, sticking to the West Coast unlocks endless adventure without extra paperwork.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat's the fuel budget for an RV trip around Sonoma Valley?
Fuel is the biggest variable, but it's easy to plan for. California gas prices in Sonoma County typically run $4.75 to $5.50 per gallon, and diesel is usually 20 to 50 cents higher. Class B campervans get 18 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and larger Class A coaches get 6 to 9 MPG. For a 4-day loop visiting Napa, Bodega Bay, and the Russian River (roughly 200 miles), budget $90 to $150 in fuel for a Class C. Pro tip: fill up in Petaluma or Rohnert Park where prices run noticeably lower than at the Sonoma Highway stations.

Sonoma County Regional Parks (Doran, Westside, Spring Lake, Gualala Point) open reservations 12 months out and fill fast for summer weekends. California State Parks including Sugarloaf Ridge and Bothe-Napa Valley open bookings 6 months in advance through ReserveCalifornia. Private parks like Petaluma KOA and Sonoma County Fairgrounds RV Park typically accept reservations year-round. Pro tip: aim for a Sunday-through-Thursday window, which is usually wide open even in peak season, and check Hipcamp for vineyard-stay options that don't appear on traditional booking sites.
reservecalifornia.com/What are the local driving conditions like around the Springs?
Driving an RV around Fetters Hot Springs-Agua Caliente is genuinely manageable. Highway 12 (Sonoma Highway) is the main artery and handles motorhomes easily, with two lanes and modest grades through the valley. Stick to Highway 12, Highway 121, and Highway 101 for the smoothest routes. Avoid Trinity Road and Cavedale Road over to Napa in any RV longer than 22 feet (they're winding, narrow, and steep). Summer afternoons can bring tourist traffic between Sonoma Plaza and Glen Ellen, so drive in the morning when possible. Local insider tip: harvest trucks dominate the back roads in September and October, so build extra time into your itinerary during crush season.

Delivery and setup typically range from $2 to $5 per mile from the host's home base. Pickup is usually between 1 and 4 p.m. with drop-off by 11 a.m., and mileage policies vary from 100 free miles per night to fully unlimited. sonomacounty.com/lodging/campground-rv-parks/How does payment and the security deposit work for an RV rental in California?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled inside RVezy, no cash or paper checks needed. You pay the booking amount through the secure platform using a credit or debit card, which keeps everything documented in one place. A refundable security deposit is collected separately from the booking payment (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV class) and it is released back to your card after a successful trip with no incidents. To avoid any deposit issues, do a thorough walkthrough with the host at pickup, photograph the inside and outside, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and empty the tanks at an approved dump station before drop-off.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Fetters Hot Springs-Agua Caliente during the rainy winter season?
Yes, winter is one of the most underrated times for an RV rental in Sonoma Valley. From December through March, you'll find lower nightly rates, empty tasting rooms at famous wineries, and dramatic green hills you won't see in summer. Daytime highs run 55 to 62 degrees Fahrenheit with cool nights in the 40s, so book an RV with a working furnace and ask the host about heated holding tanks if you're heading up to Sugarloaf Ridge where overnight temps can dip near freezing. Most Sonoma Valley campgrounds stay open year-round. Local insider tip: February's mustard bloom turns the entire valley electric yellow, and it's hands-down the best photography window of the year.
