Campgrounds and RV parks near Greeley Hill, CA

Yosemite National Park is the primary draw. The Big Oak Flat entrance on Highway 120 leads to Tuolumne Grove of giant sequoias, Hetch Hetchy Reservoir, and onward to Yosemite Valley. The Stanislaus National Forest surrounds Greeley Hill with hiking, dispersed recreation, and reservoir access at Cherry Lake and Lake Eleanor. Pine Mountain Lake, accessible with a day pass from the gated community, offers swimming beaches, a marina, and a golf course. A vehicle access pass is required to use Pine Mountain Lake's private amenities, available at the Main Gate, and dogs are not allowed on the beaches. Coulterville and Groveland preserve Gold Rush-era main streets with museums, saloons, and small restaurants. New Melones Reservoir and Don Pedro Reservoir add fishing and boating options to the west.

Summer is the busiest season. Yosemite Valley fills quickly, daytime temperatures in the foothills run hot, and campgrounds inside and outside the park book out months ahead. The Tioga Pass entrance, via Highway 120 from the east, is closed from approximately November through late May or June, so summer is also the only reliable window for through-trips to the eastern Sierra. Spring brings waterfalls at peak flow in Yosemite and wildflowers in the foothills, with cool nights and occasional rain. Fall offers stable weather, thinner crowds, and warm days into October. Wildfire smoke is a real possibility from late summer into October, and fire restrictions on open flames are common. Winter is quiet around Greeley Hill. Yosemite can be driven year-round via Highways 41, 140, and 120 from the west, while Tioga Pass is closed and Hetch Hetchy may close intermittently due to snow. Chain controls on Highway 120 are routine during storms, and some private parks reduce hours or close seasonally.

Greeley Hill sits at roughly 2,800 feet, so nights are cooler than the Central Valley and freezing temperatures are possible from late fall through early spring. Roads are winding, and grades on Highway 120 east of Groveland are steep, so allow extra time and watch brake temperatures in larger rigs. Cell coverage is patchy outside the towns and is unreliable inside Yosemite. Download maps offline before arrival. Bear-resistant food storage is required inside Yosemite and recommended at foothill campgrounds. Pine Mountain Lake Campground has three nearby restrooms, two with running water and one offering hot showers. Expect rustic infrastructure at smaller sites and full hookups, Wi-Fi, and laundry at the larger commercial RV resorts. Pack for a wide daily temperature swing year-round.
