RV camping near Larkspur, California
Larkspur sits in central Marin County, about ten miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge and within easy reach of the Larkspur Ferry to San Francisco. The city itself has no public campground, but a handful of private RV parks operate within a short drive, and the surrounding county holds some of the best state-park camping in the Bay Area.
Marin RV Park and Marin Park sit closest to town and cater to travelers using Larkspur as a base for day trips into San Francisco by ferry or bus. Golden Gate Trailer Park is another nearby option, while Novato RV Park lies a short drive north up Highway 101. Candlestick RV Park sits across the bay near the city itself, useful for itineraries that focus on San Francisco. Public camping in Marin is concentrated at Mount Tamalpais State Park and Samuel P. Taylor State Park, both reservable through ReserveCalifornia, though most state-park sites in this area are walk-in or limited to RVs under 31 feet.
Things to do around Larkspur
The Larkspur Ferry crosses to the San Francisco Ferry Building in about thirty minutes, making car-free city days easy from any of the nearby RV parks. Muir Woods National Monument and its old-growth coastal redwoods sit a short drive south, and a seasonal shuttle runs on weekends and holidays during the warm months from the Manzanita Park and Ride. Mount Tamalpais State Park has miles of trails, including the Dipsea, Matt Davis, and Steep Ravine routes, plus East Peak views over the bay. Samuel P. Taylor State Park offers redwood hiking along Lagunitas Creek and the paved Cross Marin Trail for cyclists. Stinson Beach, Point Reyes National Seashore, and the wineries of Sonoma and Napa are all within day-trip range.

Marin County camps year-round, but conditions shift sharply by season. Spring and summer bring warm days, with average highs running through the 70s and into the 80s on inland ridges, while coastal fog routinely rolls in over the headlands and Mount Tamalpais on summer afternoons and evenings. Bring layers even in July, especially at higher elevations where microclimates can feel ten to fifteen degrees cooler than San Rafael.
Fall is the most settled stretch, with clear skies through September and into October, and it tends to be the best window for RVers who want reliable weather. Winter is the wet season: December and January are the rainiest months in the area, and storms can trigger road closures on Highway 1 and limit access to coastal campgrounds. Late summer and fall also fall within California's peak fire season, when red-flag warnings can close trails or campfires at Mount Tamalpais and other state parks on short notice. Spring is a good shoulder season for waterfalls and wildflowers on Mount Tam.

Angel 😇 Life Saver ⛑️ Great Communication 📲📞 Informative 📚 PUNCTUAL ⏳️ Just a few words to describe this wonderful Host. When my prior host backed out and canceled on me the day of (There was no communication up til 48hrs before trip, and stopped again the morning of. I reached out for clarification and location, no response! Moments later Rveezy tells me the host is no longer comfortable with accommodating us) Evgeniy not only responed within 5min of me reachout out, but had us out and on the road to enjoy out trip within an hour. The vehicle is perfect, clean and easy to function. We had never driven or worked an RV before but his quick rundown and eargeness to answer any questions helped put out minds at ease. He is so kind, professonal, and absolutely Amazing 🤩. We will definitely rent from him again despite our extra charges for not having time to thoroughly clean out and fill up; but that was a very small price to pay for what we would have missed if he hadn't come to help us out of a pickle. They only gave the options of 5 stars so I'll leave the rest here : ✨️⭐️🌟⭐️✨️⭐️🌟✨️⭐️🌟⭐️✨️⭐️🌟✨️⭐️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️🌟✨️⭐️🌟✨️⭐️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️🌟⭐️✨️

How to book campsites in the area
Private RV parks near Larkspur, including Marin RV Park, Marin Park, Golden Gate Trailer Park, Novato RV Park, and Candlestick RV Park, take reservations directly through the operator by phone or website. Booking several weeks ahead is wise for summer weekends, and longer for holidays. Public campsites at Mount Tamalpais State Park and Samuel P. Taylor State Park are booked through ReserveCalifornia, which opens a rolling six-month window before the arrival date at 8 a.m. Pacific. The Steep Ravine cabins at Mount Tamalpais are allocated by a lottery-style reservation drawing that opens up to eight months ahead. Pantoll and Bootjack at Mount Tam remain first-come, first-served and are tent-focused. Samuel P. Taylor accepts RVs up to 31 feet, but its dump station is out of service, so plan to dump elsewhere.
What to expect on the ground
Sites near Larkspur skew urban-adjacent rather than backcountry. The closest private parks offer full hookups with 30- and 50-amp service, hot showers, laundry, and Wi-Fi, with the trade-off of road noise and tight, gravel pull-throughs rather than wooded buffers. Big rigs are generally welcome at the private parks but not at state campgrounds, where length limits cap around 31 feet and many sites are walk-in. Cell service is reliable across most of the urbanized county and generally usable at Samuel P. Taylor. Expect heavy weekend traffic on Highway 1 and Panoramic Highway, and arrive early at first-come, first-served sites. Pets are welcome at the private parks but restricted on most trails in Marin's state and federal lands.
